Linden, can you please set up a way we can purchase the $10 memberships to give as gift certificates for Christmas? If we could purchase them and auto-email them to friends it would be great. Even greater would be a discount on bulk purchases

Another consideration would be if we could purchase one month $9.95 'payments' as gift certificates that would be auto-emailed to friends.

Current Issue #1: naming....you'd have to pick their name, right? What if they don't like it?

Issue #2: payment....it'd be off your credit card--would they also be able to go into the account area and change it to say, lifetime without re-entering the CC data? (Probably not, but hmmm..)

But this is cool!

I expect a "gift certificate" would work something like this: You pay $9.95 on your credit card, and the "gift certificate", in whatever physical form it has, will include a numeric code. When the recipient signs up for their account, they enter that code as part of the sign-up process, and that gives them a Basic account at no cost to them.

Yeah, but what I was referring to there is the current alternative, if LL can't get a "gift certificate" system working fast enough.

There is a really simple way the lindens can set it up.....

Coupon codes

Allow people to purchase coupon codes that they can use while they are signing up.....

These could be purchased for various amounts, but $9.99 would be the important one.

We're trying to finish up everything that needs to be in place for v1.2. I'm really hopeful that we'll get done in time to turn our attention to gift certificates. But I can't promise it will be done.

If that changes you'll hear me shout from the rooftops!

Just in time for Christmas....

Effective with the 1.2 release, you will be able to log in to your Account Page and order a gift certificate (actually a code) for $9.95. You can then give that code to someone as a gift. When they register they will get $9.95 applied to whichever subscription plan they choose.

What this means is if they choose Basic Access they will get a free subscription. If they choose Monthly they will get the first month free. For quarterly or annual subscriptions they will get a $9.95 discount.

i dunno loki, i think they might only give that out for people who sign up for the paying accounts... it'd be too easy to just buy l$ with us$ if they let anyone get $3k for every $10us whether that person ended up actually paying back to LL or not
