I had pea soup at lunch for the 1st time. It was so gross... the taste, the consistency, everything about it was nasty. I see it on the shelves in grocery stores all the time. Who eats this stuff?! Thoughts, comments on pea soup? Or feel free to hijack this thread.

I agree..it is disgusting, and only fit for young girls possessed by demons to puke out at high velocities.

I don't think you need to be possesed by demons to puke it out at high velocities, but I see your point.

I think pea soup tastes ok but they need to do something about the color.

I love split-pea soup. I wish they could make a similar soup outta lima beans.

My dad, god rest his soul, used to make awesome lima bean soup... He called em butter beans though. Damn that stuff was good.

In my experience there is two kinds of pea soup, good, and horrible. I will really only eat my mom's, she has a knack for it, but then she does it totally from scratch and her other soups rock too. I don't say this just because she's my mom, I can't stand my grandma's cooking.

Some like it hot, some like it cold, some like it in the pot nine days old.
...And some just don't like it.

(Can you tell I have a toddler?) :)

I make some kick-ass pea soup. It has lots of taters and onions and spices to go with the legumes that give most of you such problems.

Pea soup, just as chili, is best eaten when the wind has a bit of chill, and you are asking yourself whether putting on the jacket to go get another pack of smokes is really worth the effort.

Hint #1 : don't be cheap and go light on the ham or the pork or the salt-pork or whatever other leftover pig you might have. Toss it all in there. Its the damn pig that gives it some flavor and makes it all edible. If you can find an entire pig, just shove the entire sow into the pot oinker first, and listen to her squeal.

Hint #2 : pea soup without lots of pig is for vegetarians, and is probably just as inedible ;-)

I think I should attribute this to Jon Stewart, but I may be wrong...

Referring to when Rick James right after he died, "his idea of health food was going down on a vegetarian".

I'm a purist. I enjoy my pea soup plain, thank you very much.

And I also prefer my pizza with just cheese. Well, usually I have pepperoni as well. But nothing more! ...ok well I do like black olives a lot, but I don't get much opportunity for that.

So true porkless split pea should be against the law. Ham stock, ham bone and bacon sprinkled on top. Unlike chili pea soup does not taste better the next day for some reason. It ends up all pasty and weird. So if you eat it at a cafe then it will likely taste like what it looks like.
