Woot. This is the best example of havok2 that I've seen. The enemies all have ragdoll physics, they bounce around each other, much of the map is destructable (knock down a few pillars and watch the ceiling fall down on some enemies), and various other physical doohickeys while you're playing (best thing I've seen so far: While fighting in a HUGE open-area theatre, I shoot out the supports on a chandelier and watch it come crashing down and killing about 50 people with sparks and everything ) I can't wait for havok 2.0 in SL. Really, I can't. LF

It's a step above Quake2, but a couple degrees removed from Half Life. PLot: you're dead. Heaven says kill demons so you can see your girlfriend again. LF

Aw. I was hoping it might have a good plot, so I'd go out and get it.

It's got the same gameplay as Doom or Doom2, just tons prettier. Or Serious Sam, for that matter. If you liked those games, this is the game to get Besides, I've yet to play a game that has bosses THIS big (like, 400 times the size of your guy, literally destroying the level around you) LF

Also, Far Cry kicks ass, both visually and gameplay wise. The Vaporware should be working on upgrades if they want to beat it. Plus, you can actually buy it

PainKiller is great, Neil has been playing it obcessively, the graphics are beautiful and the ragdoll stuff is fun also check out the weapons- everything on them moves, nothing is static, they feel convincing. hehe however, that brings me to the name of the game, which is distinctly less impressive that the rest. PainKiller? Thats just lame. My theory is some suit or financier was all "Hey! I've got TEH BEST TITLE EVAR!1!!11!!!!", and there wasnt really any good way for the producing studio to say no. the big towering troll guy is cool. I love the crumbling arches in that level. Favorite moment so far: Neil has discovered it is possible to shoot in midair the chunks of Everything the zombies guys throw at you. *chuckle* that just doesnt get old.

I thought, with the emphasis on physics, that the Painkiller title was a play on "Payne Killer", as in, the game is a Max Payne killer since Max Payne's big selling point was the physics.

Played the Demo last night, I was in the "town". Why are they throwing burned ferrets at me? I ran out of ammo and just waited to be killed...however, they just kept hitting me, not killing me. So, I quit. Someone tell me how to reload!

I started playing the Painkiller demo yesterday. I usually dont like zombies and relentless onslaught of enemies, but the graphics to Painkiller are pretty amazing. I doubt I will buy the full version, but it really is a nice piece of eye candy.
I wonder when single player games will have truly smart AI. I wish enemies in these games would get smarter. Even in Farcry, the bad guys often stand around even when they know your coming. Stunning graphics are cool, but its still sort of a letdown when the AI are pretty dumb. I usually play multi-player shooters because the enemy are human and unpredictable.
James, you have to run around and get the crates of stakes to reload your ammo supply. There are a variety of ammo supply, just look for things you can run into and pick up. You get better life points if you collect the zombie souls after you kill them.

The AI featured in HL2's ginormous video they released about a year back or so was pretty bloody good. Bursting through blocked doors of their own accord, shooting through windows, stuff like that.
I hope it's like that for the real game.

The engine is excellent. I love huge wide open maps with the 1k draw distance. It really helps with the immersion factor. The map editor was fun the time I tried it. You can turn the AI & Physics on while tweaking your map. It was hilarious dropping sharks & pigs on the land and watch the solidiers freak out and start shooting while getting chomped on.. or dropping a carrier truck on someone's head. Using the terraforming tools were fun too. It was sort of like painting with a spraypaint tool and watching mountains grow before your eyes. Very cool stuff. edit: Oh as for ragdoll effects, seems like all the recent games have it now. The funniest I've seen was in EA's new boxing game Fight Night. It's hilarious watching their knees buckle with their face all twisted while hitting the canvas

I hope it's like that for the real game. Heh... I've heard *cough* that the AI shown in that E3 video, even though it was BILLED as "unscripted", was in fact HEAVILY scripted. No matter where you come from, or how you come in, the same actions happen... the door gets kicked in at the exact same moment every time, and so on. Revolutionary, my foot. LF

Ah, really? I'd heard that Far Cry's AI was unscripted as well, but things tend to behave like they were scripted also.
But what happens if you don't duck into the building, and instead go to the right of it and somehow avoid that guy?

Well, because you didn't walk into the "trigger", nothing.
But, if you were to try to open the door, it would be unable to be opened. And if you clip through the wall, and then walk through the trigger on the other side, then the guy comes storming in.

Wow.
That sucks.
No wonder they leaked the source code and called it theft for those few extra months of development time. They weren't even close to finished.

is it just me, or was the painkiller intro painfully lame? The rest of it looks great so far, but oh...that dialouge. and the facial animation. it lived up to the standard set by the stellar title

Ooo! Ooo! There's topless naked chicks in this game? *sudden renewed interest* Is there a point to any of it? Do you get to see points?

*chuckle* nope, no points. i mean it, her hair was looked literally *glued* to her breasts. The sad part is, the model of eve was VERY well done. All the models in the cinematics look great- its the movement thats so lame. There are no dynamics in the hair, as in the case of Eve's boobies or the white-haired guy in the first cut scene, and none that i've *noticed* on the fabrics. Considering the rest of the game looks so gergeous, im baffled as to why they didnt just do the cut scenes in-game. Its probably the only case ive seen where the prerendered stuff looked like crap compared to the in-game stuff. but other than that, and the still-lame title, its good.

thats the rub, there are no boobies. they are covered by her meticulously laquered hair. favorite small detail so far: the cracks that appear around the stake when your shoot it into a wall. that kind of attention to detail gives me warm fuzzies
