Quick Poll: One AV, or many?

Most people know I have one AV that I primarily use. If I make changes in his body, I try to do so very slowly so it seems like he's changing into something else over time. But a lot of people I know use several different AVs.

What do you do?

I'm the same way, slowly evolving the AV. Its a very interesting question though! I think it comes down to a matter of how the residents 'play'.. For some people, their AV represents themselves, so it tends to be representative of their mood, their environment, etc. For some people its merely cosmetic to the fullest, and subject to sudden to total change depending on the situation. I'm interested in seeing more replies to this :)

Well I have one main AV. This is a close as possible representation of my IRL Self. I have slowly refined this part or that of my AV's anatomy and facial structure slowly refining it to be as true to life as possible.

Then I have several Anime AV's and other AV's I have created. Some for myself or others. These are like costumes. The ultimate CosPlay.

I have lots of avs though I mostly use variations on the same one.
I have a party eggy with long hair and a goatee, a businessman eggy in fey's fine teal suit, a builder eggy with maxed out muscles... and a few other ones. The cubist, default texture man, the pimp masta, eggy in drag...

Good question, Daemioth! I started out changing my av every day, but now I wear one av most of the time.

I also have a dozen or so strange ones that I wear only on special occasions: short-n-ugly thong av, superheroes, Star Trek characters, plants, animals, aliens, you name it.

I have had 2 AV's. I started with one and about a month after starting I pulled my head out of the script window and found AV controls. I changed to what I currently look like and havn't changed since except twice.

I have feniks AV I wore to the first gender bender, and once I shrunk myself to try to get smaller than Tracey Kato.

I have one AV but she has several different "looks" - nothing that couldn't change if, say, a real person had unlimited clothing and salon budgets, but still they can be pretty different.

I do also have a few AVs for specific purposes, like RP in Darkwood (which I never seem to make it to), that don't look like my regular AV on purpose.

I only use one AV that I finally got refined to my taste in late June (took me a month to figure out how to tweak the sliders!!) I stick with her, an idealized version of what I look like in RL. The only differance is that I have very short blonde hair and I stole the red pony tail for my AV from my RL daughter!! And of course I am past the age of bareing my midriff in RL.

I did make an Asian Av (to fit with Chang) just after going live, but I rarely put her out. Maybe we will be able to do better with the Asian look in 1.1

I did shrink my AV once to be able to fly one of Boso's planes, but I felt so strange that I stretched to plane to fit my normal AV.

I have my main avatar, 'James' which I wear most of the time. Lately, I've been switching the t-shirt a lot. I've also started to legthen the sleeves and pants, as it's now getting colder where I live. Makes me cold to see my avatar in summer clothes when it's 45 degrees outside! :)

I also have other avatars, some that I made, some that I bought. I use the Chicken Suit made by Cory Linden a lot. I also use my 'ugly' outfit sometimes. :)

If I don't change my AV every so often, I get itchy. I have one "constant" that isn't always in my AVs face - Bel accuses me of being too "cute" even when I try not to be. Well feh.

I have had 2 "main" avs since I joined SL that I have made minor tweaks to. Beyond that I have several alt avs made for costumes, events or special requests. I also have a couple Washu specials and a brand spanking new av BBC made me. In short, although I'm usually in the same av, I have a bunch.

I have two main AVs, depending on my mood, and I've tweaked them a few times since I joined. Each AV has some subvariations, like hair and skin for formal occasions, androids, etc. Outfits also change depending on what I feel like wearing at the time.

one AV at a time :p

Actually, I realized that my AV has regressed over time.

My original one has only ever been seen by a couple of people. It was an old asian man, with long hair and longer ears.

After building things off by myself for a little while, I decided on a little social experiement - I created the elfin girl with pink hair (it was supposed to be strawberry blonde) and a ponytail, that most people got to know. After a few months of trying to play Miss Popular to the hilt, I got tired of that one, though.

Lately, I've been a little tomboy, with short brown hair and a much more reclusive nature. In each case though, I've had just one main AV, and several variations on the theme.

I have about 60 Avs. My current favorite is the little yellow Amish Alien Leprachaun Mob Boss. When I get tired of him. I will probably wear 4 or 5 different avs a day, till i settle down with a new favorite.

I have a main av and many other 'costumes' that I wear on occassion... In fact I usually only purchase clothing for the main av. Any of the others have one outfit that I made for that 'costume'.

I experimented with a lot of different looks at first. After about a week, I'd settled on one favorite, which I wear about half the time. I fiddle with it slightly from time to time, mostly just changing the clothes. I have several other AVs that I wear as the mood strikes: black, asian, male, pre-teen, feline, etc. And another dozen "costume" and "novelty" AVs that I play with but rarely use.

None of them look like me IRL. What would be the point of that?

While I don't begrudge anyone the desire to have multiple avatars (60?!) I kinda appreciate the ability to recognize people from a distance without having to depend on the name labels as a cue. The aspect of 3D-VR that separates it from an IRC or chat room after all is all the visual cues we can work with. After a while when you have gotten to know someone and you have a certain mental image of them it feels more natural (for me anyway) to re-engage them in conversation. Part of that concept too is that not everyone attempts to make themselves into Mr. and/or Mrs America.

I went for a "ruddy" sort of appearance for now. I found that there were some combinations of features that I couldn't achieve, but as more controls or prototypical traits are added I'll probably have another go at it.

Much study has been made on the use of "body language" in human interaction. I'm afraid that a downside of 3D-VR will be to break that very intuitive form of communication for a while. As the newness of 3D-VR wears off, I suspect that some form of this will return to our online personas, what form it will take I'm not sure though.

In earlier online systems I settled on being a small roundish blue bird. Today I'd probably opt for a penguin instead, but I don't want to use the current technique of covering myself with objects to achieve it. I'd also want to be no more than a foot or so high.

I have two main ones - the one I'm using now was the second AV I created (old man white hair) back in december. The first is lost forever thank god (it was ugly).

The other main AV is my DarkWood DarkElder DarkElf. :p Havn't worn it in a little while.

When I switch its for an extended period of time - I think I wore the DW one for about 2 months straight and now I'm back to my main one.

My main one looks nothing like me, as is evidenced by several photos uploaded thanks to Alek and Wedding pics. Its my inner self. :)

I have many Avs; Tall, Fat, Thin, Female, ect ect ect. Those of you that know me ma have seen my "Lady Killa" (short, fat, fugly with bunny ears and pink fairy wings). I only break out this stud on special occasions. However I do have the Av I named "me", he is the one I sport 99% of the time. I consider him my identity in SL.

Good question man :)

For the longest time I only had the one avatar. I made it quickly and based it off of what I could remember of my face. I think it looks somewhat like me, but a rl friend of mine who played SL briefly was *startled* at "how much its like sitting and talking with you". So, I must have gotten a lot of the important visual clues right - which astounds me, I would have assumed my self image wouldn't have been that accurate.

So, one main AV. Never even changed his clothes after getting the right stoner look with an absolutely appropriate t-shirt made by Skeedalee Skidoo - she later sold me the rights to the shirt to make it an Oneironaut Exclusive - Thanks Skee!

So, just the one av with the one rather funky outfit. I can tell you it reeks. Might have something to do with living in a giant bong, not sure ;)

Same clothes. That was until Evie's Island opening. I felt the need to go "formal" which is so contrary to who I am. . .

Came up with a perfect compromise by getting Nephilaine Protagonist to tailor a hemp tuxedo for me. It's spectacular as you can recognise its hempiness without even being told.

I also cut my hair, which tends to be a bit dishevelled both in SL and RL, for the event.

So, now I have Clean Cut Oneironaut.

Oh yeah, and recently, I had cause to make Nudie Boy Oneironaut (don't ask) which is basically me nude, with a well positioned pot leaf.

Oh, and yeah ;) I VERY recently made a mannequin av for use in my LindenWorld Escher stair project. First Av that dosn't look like me.

I'm a big believer in people establishing a consistent identity within SL, but I'm fine with people being consistently inconsistent. Just don't be middle of the road about it ;) Stick to one main av, or look different every time I see ya :)

Wow, it's late, that was a lot longer than I expected.
