Hi All,
Wanted to repeat an offer I made in another thread:
I will pay L$10K to any person who can walk me through an example of any method by which you can change the permissions on an object to something creator didn't originally allow. Inotherwards... I set something 'no copy', give it you, and you show me some process by which the object still lists me as the creator, but now has status 'copy'.
IM me in-world if you have a way to do this. We believe that this is impossible with the current version of SL, but want to be sure and get as much help as possible. Hence this offer.

Funny thing is, I don't know how, but I have seen you as the creator of some very funny things. Good luck!

Hmm. On one hand, it's paying possibly dishonest, underhanded folks for finding and possibly exploiting a bug. On the other hand, it will alert Linden Lab to a terrible bug that has decimated some people. Kudos! This is a good idea. LF

$40 US, that's not bad, all things considered.
Ironic - the ones of us who like to hunt down the bugs are usually not the ones strapped for cash.
If I can do this, how about a job? *ear to ear grin*

Philip I think I may know a way to do it, but I would need a Lindens help for it.

At first glance, a nice offer.
Then I thought about it.
The problem is you are asking someone to essentially give up the opportunity to rip off, copy and make potentially unlimited amounts of money for a mere pittance.
Then again, I don't think that paying for demonstrating this bug and not paying for demonstrating others is fair.

I have been able to dupe 'No Copy' items by simply dragging it out of my inventory a bunch of times really quick... But that was a long time ago.

From: Moleculor Satyr And you offer what alternative? Ummm.. are you forgetting that I PAY to be here... ? I am not here to offer free advice or expertise to a corporate entity. It's not my job, my intent nor even necessairly in my own interests to make SL a perfect place, or a better one for that matter. So, I don't have to or want to offer any alternatives. I posted my reaction - something that struck my fancy to do.

The problem is you are asking someone to essentially give up the opportunity to rip off, copy and make potentially unlimited amounts of money for a mere pittance. Were you being sarcastic, or do you seriously lack any sense of ethics? I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt, assume the prior, and not respond to this. From: someone Then again, I don't think that paying for demonstrating this bug and not paying for demonstrating others is fair. How is it not fair? Everyone has the opportunity to look for this bug. Some bugs are easy to find. This one apparently is not. Some bugs are not so critical. This one definitely is. Are you saying putting emphasis on solving a bug, that is difficult to diagnose and could potentially be devastating for Second Life, by opening a reward to everyone, is unfair? That's like saying it's unfair that only certain criminals have rewards for capture From: Korg Ummm.. are you forgetting that I PAY to be here... ? I am not here to offer free advice or expertise to a corporate entity. So don't! Why the 'tude?

IMHO L$50,000 would be more likely to get peoples' attention, ten grand in lindenbucks is (quoting someone else) "chickenfeed"

From: Korg Stygian You have a problem with my post? Go elsewhere. *instantly hypnotized into following Korg's every whim because he has given no reasons whatsoever* Um, no. How about you show a little respect for LL's CEO, who has more vision in his pinky than you ever will in your entire life? Or to Mole, who's a pretty decent guy and scripter?

Since our economy kind of depends on this bug, if found, being squashed, I would think a lifetime membership would be more in order. As a reward, the current offer is not so rewarding. The potential gains for someone without ethics are too great for $40 to be an incentive.
Having said that, if I could reproduce it, I would report how and take the L$10k.

Contrarian viewpoint is one thing, but that sort of viewpoint provides no value to anyone. Not even to yourself. If you are caught attempting to do that, I am quite sure it will result in permanent ban of not just your IP address, but probably your IP block.

From: Hiro Pendragon Um, no. How about you show a little respect *cough* You're talking to Korg, Hiro... Asking him to show anyone any respect at all is just silly. As is asking him to address any of the points you make in response to his comments. Don't worry. He'll be along to compare you - or Philip - to Nazis in a moment.

That is taking a huge leap.... to suggest that because I see this as a reason that anyone who does know how to exploit such a bug/loophole would not be willing to "come forward and demonstrate it" means that I would do such a thing.... well, all I can say is your logic is really flawed. As for blocking my IP... it's been done before. I hope you get to experience it once before you die... it's fun in a way.

Don't worry. He'll be along to compare you - or Philip - to Nazis in a moment. In a way, I hope that deep down there's a logical, reasonable, respectful Korg struggling to get out. Kris, may I give you a knowing nod to our own forum squabbles that we managed to deal with and get beyond.
