I thought you were the author of the sign which was snapshotted. That sign does cite the risk of spam as a primary concern. Was I mislead about the authorship of the sign?

OKay. I guess I just fail to understand what the big concern is. I also disagree that the fact this feature has never been used for nefarious purposes (to my knowledge) is specious. Seems quite relevant to me *shrug*

You should be afraid that they KNOW YOUR NAME. They're the one and the same, for all intents and purposes, just as an internet address in the form of www.foobar.com ultimately resolves into an ww.xx.yy.zz IP address.

Given that hiding one's name in SL is not at all desirable (wouldn't griefers just LOVE being able to go anonymous?) you're basically complaining that Linden Labs isn't breaking the Find tool.

The sign never, in any way, says I have any concerns about in world spam. It only states that LL will pursue spammers. Isn't it true?

Info in SL should stay within SL. I pay LL for the unique info that I use. I do not, nor did I ever, nor does it imply anywhere, that this info may be used as any other SL resident sees fit outside of SL. It is a violation of my right to security and privacy. Just because you don't agree doesn't mean I'm insane.

It is a common tactic to state that somebody with concerns you do not agree with is hysteria. Again, that will fail.

Lastly, the terms of use state that you may not use any portion of the LL software for unintended purposes. I still await an answer from SL that an intended purpose of the name.cache file, a portion of their software, is intended for the use of list builders to publish my in-world unique account name and key (my in-world email address) to the public internet.

Although I disagree strongly with Tcoz on the issue of avatar keys, he is well within his rights in SL to have made a protest sign. He should not be insulted for having done so - the sign is a perfectly valid protest, even if you don't agree with the message. As for it appearing on SL.com and my site, that was Hiro's decision, not Tcoz's, and again, you are projective motive on Hiro's actions. It is not Hiro's fault that SL.com displays pictures sent to my site, so he was in no way gaming it.

You attract a lot more flies with honey than you do with vinegar, mate. Every time you start posting down this path, you get very condescending. Jonquille is one of the more prolific creators in world, and a lot of us would kill for her skills. And no, she's not a close friend, we've hung out in world maybe twice.

As for your scripting skills, your scripts in Varney still seem to be a sim killer. Your rave sticks also listen on an open channel... bad, bad practice! You're increasing CHAT CHANNEL SPAM AND LAG! You, my friend, are responsible for much more spam in SL (rave on rave off rave on rave off) than any key has been to date. Pot, meet kettle.

That said, I'll defend your right to make a sign of protest any day. To quote Jerry Springer, "The right to be an ignorant fool is the greatest thing about America."

Tcoz, I think you'll find that many people have been caught out here - thinking they knew who Pandastrong was talking about because Pandastrong was talking about that person (the person so many here simply love to hate), and that person was not you. It's because he came to the forum without actually digging any deeper, otherwise he'd of realised that what he was leading people to believe was completely erroneous. Many of those who followed just took Pandastrong's presumption and ran with it, talking about a completely different person who they had been led to believe created and posted the sign through Pandastrong's words.

Basically Pandastrong got it wrong, and others just followed.

I was replying to a post by Blaze in reference to another community member. I don't even know who you are dude. So, yes I was careless in assuming who this pic/sign came from. But as far as turning the community against you, I think that your tone of voice here might have something to do with that.

As far as my assumption, Moopf, while I do believe it wasn't a huge leap, I was wrong. However, any apology owed would be to you and other members of the community, not to the paticular person who tries to tear apart SL as a community and company on a compulsive basis.

Displaying bullshit like this on the home page does nothing but possibly damage LL's revenue potential. That means people who slave night and day to bring you enjoyment, could potentially have their RL earnings affected.

Grow the fuck up people.

I don't think the actions of Tcoz or Hiro were a big deal, especially since one image doesn't really cause any damage.

On the other hand I think we are getting a sneak preview of what will cause Linden Lab to abandon this homepage pic program. The Lindens are doubtlessly hoping that these homepage images will show potential customers how cool SL can be on a live basis. Sadly there is a whole lot of room in the TOS/CS to repeatedly and legally post images that do not aid LL's marketing efforts. It's too tempting to use this system as free homepage ad space for one's political ideas, sordid imagination, or even anti-Second Life opinions. It's just a matter of time before certain users who dwell in the margins of acceptable behavior force the Lindens to make some uncomfortable decisions.

It was a monumental leap as you were wrong on both counts - you thought the sign was by a certain somebody AND you thought they were the person that posted it. It's not like you couldn't of easily found the picture on slpics.com now is it! That would not only have told you who had posted it but handily given you the location in Second Life where you could view it. But no, you came racing out of the traps because you thought you knew who it was - the person you were referring to all along and the person you and others are so quick to be vociferous about. Please don't try to hide that - you thought it was made by and posted by the wrong person right from the start.

You owe an apology to Tcoz for misrepresenting him and to the other person for quite obviously making an untrue accusation - neither of which are likely juding from the rest of your post.

I suggest you take your own advice and grow up so you don't come rushing to the forum because you think you've got something else to bash the hate figure with without actually knowing if you're accurate.
