What do merchants prefer?

I have noticed while browsing through the "Shopping" and "New Product" threads that merchants will post thier items, and then SL Exchage will go and post in that same thread to buy it from them... Being that SL Exchange takes 10% of every sale, are merchants ok with this?
I know alot of merchants use SL Exchange to give convienience to thier customers, but not to hand over 10% of every sale to SL Exchange... what are your thoughts?

while i think ten percent is kind of high, i think its nice that merwan supports his merchants the way he does, and its very convenient

I'm fine with 10%, and I would have no problem getting a post in a thread I started for my merch from SLExchange saying buy it on the website. If I didn't want people to have the option to buy my stuff on SLExchange, then I wouldn't list my stuff there.

As far as the 10% model - inworld, I pay a flat rate for a vendor stall. No guarantees of making sales. If I sell 10 items a day or 0, I'm still out the cost of the rent. With SLExchange, I only pay them if I sell items. Seems fair to me.

I did not vote in the poll because of the way it is worded. If I had a product for sale that waranted me posting it in the classifieds, I would have no problem w/ Merwan adding that it's sold on slexchange.com . If I had a problem w/ the 10% commission I would not place the product for sale there.

The big draw of these online venues to sell your goods is convenience. While I would prefer a customer buy direct from me and not pay the 10%, I would rather get the 90% than 0%. I would also consider raising my prices on items sold on SLE by 10% if it bothered me.

Sorry Adam, I didn't mention Second Server because I don't see them as being possibly problematic (not sure what word to use).

I don't have a problem paying 10% to SL Exchange. I didn't answer the poll either because of the wording. I don't have a problem with them advertising. In fact I think they should advertise more. I don't think the people who browse shops and who shop from the web are necessarily the same customers.

As for SL Exchange, they are easy to access, easy to use.. and customer support questions get immediate attention.

My experience with Secondserver (Gigas) is that I have been unable to get my technical support ticket responded to, and thus I can't put my stuff on for sale.

It doesn't bother me because as Schwan said, 90% is better than not selling an item at all. And I appreciate Merwan taking the time to promote both his product AND mine.

well im not thrilled at the 10% commission, it would be nice if it was less. however for some reason SLExchange dosnt advertise all over my posts, not sure why that is. so im rather ambivalent at the practice of advertising SLExchange on other merchants posts

Hrrm, think you could give me a rough/time-date for that? As far as I can tell all support tickets right now have been 'resolved'. (replies are sent to the email address you signed up with) If this isnt the case, drop me a message through your preffered means, and I'll dig through the closed tickets file and take a look. :)

I'm fine with it because I charge more for my products on SL exchange. If people want a discount, they can come to my discount store and let me get the dwell to help other people find me.

I dont see a problem with Merwan promoting... but I do see a problem with Merwan promoting on the same thread you already promoted on... I think if I were to use SL EXchange I would want people to use that as a secondary option other than my in game location...
I guess it is hard to get what I am trying to say out ... Although, I do love the concept of SL Exchange and Second Server.

Merwan advertises more for me than I advertise for myself. Doesn't bother me at all.

Interesting to know... I wonder how many people charge/pay more to use SL Exchange...

This thread is about when Merwan advertises SL Exchange on your own advertisements, not him advertising on his own.

Well, Ive only been on SL exchange for a week or so, but my store sales have been effected and I have made almost equal that on SLExchange in the same time period.

I should also note that much of the merchandise I sell on SLExchange is SLExchange exclusive stuff that I do not sell in my store. Not all the items but quite a few are.

ahhh yes that would be a total different scenario, if it is exclusive :)

Let me rephrase then...

Merwan advertises more for me than I advertise for myself, so it doesn't bother me at all when he posts the SLexchange link on one of my rare advertisements.

I do mark up my SL Exchange items a bit to help cover this cost. Most of my items are under $100L, so it's not a huge mark-up. I, for one, don't mind paying slightly more for the convenience. Although I do like to shop in SL occasionally, it is generally a very time consuming process that I would prefer to do online -- esp. at times when I can't log in to SL.

That said, I wouldn't want to see SLExchange deliberately hijacking any of my threads to drive traffic toward the Web site vs. my in-world shops. Given that I don't do a huge volume on SL Exchange, it's not a major concern for me as it might be for other high-volume vendors.

You don't like that someone else is promoting their own thing in the forums? Might I suggest you change your signature or stop trying to tell others not to promote? This may be why you are having difficulty articulating what your issue is. Stop to sell concepts in a forum box!
