MMMM Ferran said soaked in rum. Ever when I'm hung over, that sounds good.
Do NOT bring back the L$10 to rez.
However, a light tax isn't a bad idea - L$1 / light prim / week would cause people to actually act responsibly with server resources...
Not to mention, when I worked at CDnow, every goddam marketer in that company wanted EVERY LINK and EVERY PIECE OF TEXT on the homepage to "pop". That meant EVERYTHING on the page became BOLD and RED. Thus negating any effect of highlighting!
Same exact thing with light objects... that's why they're banned in Indigo-go-go.

From: Hank Ramos I miss the Light Tax. If they brought that tax back, we could turn the Local Lighting option back on. But, until then, that option is forbidden due to extreme lag when it is turned on because everyone has decided to make every prim Light. This would suck for people who use SL as a creative outlet (there are alot of us). I think most people would chose creative freedom over a lighting effect.

How about a compromise on the original suggestion?
How about a L$100 rezzing tax on 'For Sale' signs? $200 for it if it's light, and $500 for it if it rotates as well.

The rezzing costs wouldnt debloat the economy since you could always get your money back by derezzing stuff... though the taxes would help, its a bit artificial. They should just charge more money to rate people and partner and upload stuff.

Don't worry. There is no way we'll be bringing the prim-rez costs back.
It was an early attempt to build a system by which we could balance a sim's resources amongst the users -- the more money you had the more stuff you could make/maintain. One of the many problems with the prim-rez-cost system was accounting bugs through which people could artificially manufacture L$. In short, it was difficult to maintain as a developer.
The solution was to tie prim resources to land ownership which is the current system we have today.

From: Atmos Kuroda Do you miss the 10 Linden per Prim rule? I never had the chance to experience that, but I think its a good idea. Its especially good for lowering inflation (taking out circulating money) and its more realistic (Whoa, i can make a wooden cube out of nowhere, Boycott lumber companies!). What are your views on it? I HATED that. Practically had to go broke to furnish my home or host events. it was $10 for EVERY prim rezzed. So you could go out & spend $300 on a 30 prim couch then have to use $300 of your money to rezz it. Sure you can get your $ back by derezzing it but what good is an empty house? I do NOT miss it. I NEVER EVER want to see that or Taxes AGAIN!!!!

From: Chromal Brodsky Could you elaborate? It isn't clear to me how optimizing builds for local lighting would harm creativity. Many people use lighting very effectively and it really adds to the look of a place. Marcos Fonzarelli's place in Miramare, off the top of my head but there's lots of others I've seen.

I'm so relieved that there are NO PLANS to bring back prim rezzing costs. Do you know how annoying to be in the middle of building something really cool, only to run short of cash and have to put everything on hold until the next pay day?
Or buying a cool 150 prim whatever for your home for L$500, taking it home, then realizing that you'll have to save up L$1500 just to rez the thing?
Or playing with that nifty new gun, and seeing your account dwindle every time you click the trigger? And then realizing that half the bullets landed in no-script areas, and you'll never get back that money?
Or having your SL client crash while you're flying a plane, losing the plane somewhere, and losing the L$300 in rezzing cost.
I was so happy when rezzing costs disappeared.
