1) I came to SL for the fun, creativity, friends I had there, the "custom content", an a new world to explore...... I came from TSO, an there are hardly any of those there any more.....

Lisse, maybe you don't really believe this - I want to give you the benefit of doubt, but as a lesbian in RL I find that statement completely uninformed and incorrect.

ALL of the women I have known over the years are very comfortable being women. None have ever tried to be a male - oh, except one who was actually desiring a sex change, ergo not a lesbian but a transexual.

I think that you and your husband have lesbians mixed up with transexuals. Please think before you print stuff like this. For those of us on the receiving end of percieved sterotypes, it is one of the most offensive forms of discrimination.

Ursa, I'm sorry you found my post offensive, but I think you misread it. I wasn't saying anything about RL lesbians, many of whom we count as close friends. (We also have two friends who are both MtF transexuals, and a lesbian couple, but that's beside the point).

What my husband was (in humor) saying was that in an internet role-playing environment, if you meet two female characters who are in an in-game lesbian relationship, it is more than likely that the hands behind the keyboards of those two characters are both male.

I realize that on Second Life, this is less likely to be the case than in the past on older games, and when the Internet had a lower female population, but his statement (and my post) was intended to be humerous, and poking fun at the habits of RL men. I know he has played many a lesbian character in his time with (played by RL male) partners

Well, with the particles, when you first rez/attach the prim somewhere, lets say above the height no-script works, then fly down, the script stops, but the particles have already been set. Basicly once a call to start particles is triggered, theres no way of stopping the particles untill you make the call to stop it within the script. This is also why if you make a particle script, put it in an object, then take it out, the particles will still continue on that object. As for the custom stands, there are ways of getting around no-script zones, loopholes if you will, I suspect either these scripts use those loopholes, or, its the same case as the particles, the animation is cued before you enter the zone. No-script zones just stop current running proccesses in most scripts, anything that doesn't need to continue to run or be "Activated" such as particles, will continue to go if triggered before entering.

I can't speak for others, but I myself sometimes just sit at the welcome area while doing other stuff, eating breakfast, etc. So I may be busy. Sometimes people just like to people watch too, I dunno, you'd have to ask them.

This sounds like a bug, I'd Bug Report it, mine is still in color to my knowledge.

Possible, but this is up to LL. When you make something round, you make it finite. Right now the grid is flat, when you reach the end, thats the end, you don't come back the other side, this allows LL to add as much land and sim's as they possibly want. However if they suddenly made everything connected, giving the appearence of roundness or rounded it some other way, they then limit themselves by which they can't add anymore. As is the case with There, if they fill up their world, they then have to move on to another.

Also its kind of the technology as well, I'm sure of LL really wanted, they could make the grid a certain rounded size with alot of blue ocean, simular to There's planet (I just call it "There", I know there were tons of "name our planet" thingies), however SL's server technology is a bit different than There's, so I'm not sure exactly how that would work out or if LL would even be able to make a large planet.

My un-educated guess would be that LL would need to have several hundred servers working as "void" sims currently to what we have, this would save them money running multiple sims on one server. However the question is asked how many would you need? And would it be worth it (monetarily wise)? The sims would be used I imagine, people would probably take trips around the world etc. And you could always replace the void sims with regular sims when needed.

However that then brings you back to the finite issue. I think other planets would be cool personaly, and wouldn't mind seeing SL's main grid be round.

But the questions left are, does LL want to do it? Would it be worth it, money and effort wise?

Well, remember how you put your barbie and ken dolls in various sexual positions when you were a kid ? (after playing some nonsense romantic thing before, like a candlelit diner). One interesting thought, probably been discussed here *many* times before, but sex in SL might wind up providing a safe environment for the inexperienced and/or extremely shy/introverted to explore their own sexuality. Or even to prepare for addressing it in RL. Although, god help them if they walk into a dungeon by mistake...

There are lots of lonely people IRL. Adding to that the fact that people here play computer games ; I think there are many, many lonely people on SL. In older, single screen video games like "Asteroids," when you moved off the top of the screen you appeared at the bottom. The same principle could be applied to the SL grid as well. When you travel off the north edge of the map you appear on the south edge, move past the east edge and continue from the west. In-world, the transition would be seamless and would simulate a global environment. The grid would become an infinitely expandable ever-growing tile, and landowners on the extreme edges of the map would constantly get different neighboring sims as it grew.
