Some suspect James is an undercover linden or is in close relations with a linden in New York :p

With so many newbies showing up, and probably some of them paying, I imagine Linden Labs has gotten a burst of cash. They'll probably put in some new sims, if not just for the money, but to fit the newbies in.

The new sims will likely follow the new map, which had a long line of new sims above the olive/slate area.

I heard James was a mole from There or TSO, or maybe ia a CIA agent posing as a resident. Others have speculated that he is a former mobster moved by the FBI into SL as part of the Witness Protection Program.

Hope I didn't blow your cover James; good thing Devlin doesn't read the forums - I don't like to think what might happen if he knew :)

If anything, James is NOT a Linden ;)

One word: RENT!
Plenty of room in the various apartment complexes in mauve, rose, etc.
Besides the world is incredibly empty, at least whenever I'm on there are plenty of sims with zero people in them. Makes me wonder who the hell owns all of the land and builds.

It's just not the same as your own place Eggy. I wish land ownership was capped.

Being new and all, one of my initial goals is to find/build a place to live. Whilst there are certainly rental apartments out there - I think its most new people's impulse to want to build their own place - after all that is a major selling point of SL!

There are definitely pros and cons to both - but having scouted out a few of the Sims I am coming to the same conclusion - there isnt much land LEFT to buy! I am sure this will be remedied but like Eggy said - it can potentially leave a bigger issue - a bunch of empty Sims - there are, after all, only a certain amount of people in-game at any one time and they dont all sit at home!

Just random thoughts from a newbie :)

I never really understood this. Do you people all have your own house IRL? I know america is the de facto capital of urban sprawl but this is ridiculous.
My dream place is precisely an apartment on top of a huge skyscraper, preferrably the biggest one in the city so I get a cool view of the concrete jungle around me :)
Personally I would like to see a skyscraper themed sim where there is only ONE building which would be a giant skyscraper of realistic proportions (meaning 4 or 5 hundred meters tall).
Pity that we can only fit about 30 people in the same sim :(

Since you get enough money each week that can afford your own place, most people have no incentive to shack up with others. I mean, given the choice of owning your own place, or renting out, assuming money was not a factor, which would you choose? ;)

As for empty sims, that's always going to be a problem when there is so much to do and not a lot of people. I saw this phenom happen in TSO, when everyone owned their own homes, and only massive pizza machines or....*ahem*questionable services*ahem*....would get many visitors.

Also, think of the math. Let's say there are 10 plots per sim, and there are 30-40 sims total (correct if I'm wrong). That adds up to 300-400 places to go. Since each sim can only hold about 30 people before it starts losing stability, and top that with only about 200 people being logged on at any given time, that's a LOT of places for not a lot of people. (Again correct me if I'm totally wrong)

So, even though I'd love to own my own place, I'm against it for now, because who would benifit, besides myself, from another place to visit out there?

On your first point Nala - I completely agree - people IRL don't have the money by and large to have their 'dream house' so they make do. In SL money is less of a factor so why WOULDN'T people want to build a nice house?

On your second point - I agree that it is a problem - and not an easy one to get around. You give the people the ability to build things such as houses and they will want to use it - but with the population density so low it becomes a ghost town rather quickly! How do you balance both though? Theres the 64,000 L$ question! :)

As for more land.. yea. Id say its a needed commodity. Mature Sims would releive the stress on the others. And a point taken here.. Since we're all adults.. (and I know this can be argued extensively) whats with all the PG sims anyway? Is there some plan to let underaged users into the picture here or am I just blaintly mistaken?

Ditto on the need for more land. The whole point of the game is to be creative. If there is no land to buy, how is anyone supposed to do that?

As to renting...If you're only here to social that might be an option.

Hey LL ..we need more dirt :D

Isn't one problem with the opening of the new lands that the most likely people to wind up with large swathes of it are the long-termers with the most disposable income.

Now I'm not suggesting only letting noobs buy land in new sims or anything wierd like that, but isn't there a way to balance distribution of land just a _little_. Us newbies need a home outside the campgrounds too! :)
