The pool currently stands at:

<someone> bids on all 4, wins 4 but claims only 1

:)

Should be interesting, I've never seen a whole sim full of **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale****For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale** **For Sale****For Sale** signs before.

Maxx, you mean you didn't get up to Borden, Grant, Veil or Swain in time? ;) There's still a chance to see it in Blackslough, I'm sure....

Does anyone else see the simulator quickly becoming the basic land unit?
LL auctions bunches of sims at a time, barons buy them, splits into differently sized plots who then get bought by the rest of us according to our needs.
I mean, jesus, one of these days LL is just going to quit worrying about splitting land themselves.

Yes. Soon we'll have threads posing the question "Whats the minimum number of sims that you can actually do something useful with?"

I have an urge to bid up to ten thousand dollars for each sim, and then not pick up any of them. And do it again next week.

No, I don't.

Robin did say in one thread (and I can't find it right now) that a "wholesale market" was an interesting thought.

Am I the only person who feels that LL are the best at parceling a Sim according to its terrain and features? I wouldn't even start to think that I could do it better than they do....

I would think that the terrain artist who designed the sim might have a good perspective on how to parcel it out.

I think the Lindens like to be able to say things like, "We have people making RL Dollars with in world businesses." I may be wrong, but if the ability to buy and sell large amounts of land were taken away, it would be much harder to brag about people making money in SL.

I dont know about the parcelling of a sim, anyone can do that. The land I own was initially a perfect 4096m plot with a cove. Right before it was auctioned, the lindens split the cove down the middle and made two 2048m plots. I was not going to share the cove with anyone and had to fight for two plots in auction. It made no sesnse to split it down the middle and was pretty upsetting at the time. Anyone can cut out a desireable parcel.

True Loki, but OMG imagine if they ever dropped Tier pricing. Land Barrons would simply loose their friken minds.

depends loki

if ya look at the top 10 by net worth (ignoring gom/ige) you'll see far more content producers than leeches... even if the 'value' of the content could sometimes be considered dubious hehe

The ones making money convert their L$ to US$ and never show up on the richest board.

LL should be interested in wholesaling land IMHO. Anyone who has ever parcelled up a full sim would appreciate the time involved, its a real PITA. Takes at least 3-4 hours if you know what you are doing. If LL has to sell a sim parcel by parcel they have to photograph each parcel, list the auction, run the auction, collect all the individual payments, and deal with the many individual troubles that may arise. LL could better use their man hours to fix bugs and create more sims. If enough sims where available to the wholesaler, they would probably leave the other auctions alone. The barons could then still make money AND offer lower pricing. The biggest obstacle for people to overcome is the false premise that because they are buying the land from a baron, they are paying too much. I have heard alot of people express that it is not the actual price of the land that bothers them, they would rather pay LL the exact same amount instead allowing another player to profit. For this I have no rational argument because I can not comprehend why anyone would want to begrudge another player profit if it is not costing them anymore.

I can't say I'd be too eager to own a "whole sim" that had Linden protected waterway and highway land. Sure, there's no neighbors, but you can't make complete use of your sim.

And what makes an island "magical" anyway? Having terrain too steep to build on, perhaps?

I do like the new ground textures though. Very nice.

no the reason i don't want to buy land from a baron is that would be essentially validating a practice i don't like.

I would be happy to pay LL $10 lindens a square meter for a plot before i would pay someone $5 a square meter, knowing they bought it for $1

I respect your decision. This is the attitude that I just do not comprehend though. If its a particular group or individual you do not want to contribute to, then I understand. But if I can get a bargain from someone that is making money themselves, more power to both of us.

One of the interesting consequences of baron/ess partionioning of sims, is that the entire sim is used. In a Linden partitioned sim, there is a certain amount of protected land which lays fallow. In the privately portioned sims, all of the land is for sale. This suggests that, ceteris paribus, the privately partitioned sims will have an average performance less than their Linden-partitioned brethren, because there will be more land in use per sim.

well i question whether buying from someone who scanned land and bought it 15 minutes before i was able to get home from work, then wans to charge me 500% of the price they bought it for would actually be considered a 'bargain'

i would call it highway robbery and/or profiteering.

isee it essentially like someone finding yer wallet on a chair after ya leave a restauraunt and running out to give it to you, but helping themselves to all the cash and one or two of yer credit cards, as a 'service fee' for its safe return.

helping people find land they want and charging them a small service fee is one thing, essentially holding something they've wanted for months, and that you jus lucked out bein there when it became available, for ransom until they pay you off.. thats somethin else entirely
