Anyone else find it creepy when you're doing something nobody should be watching, but someone is just kinda hovering around outside, just close enough to zoom out and see what it is you're up to?

Totally creepy and annoying. SL is a dream come true for peeping toms and eavesdroppers.

I was at my beach house in Carolina talking to some friends and I noticed someone clicked my jukebox which caused all the help info to pop up. I zoom back a little and catch another name. FYI, I proudly use one of the Linden created huts and have my house up on stilts. Anyways I zoom in on this person and find out they made their skin exactly like like the land texture and are hiding below my house next to the ground. I assume to blend in. It was kinda spooky because all you could make out of them was their head and an arm reaching up from the ground (I assume they were checking out the items in my house and listening in). I ejected them and they ran away.

Shout hello. I do.
![]() Sometimes they're just afraid to come bug you (in stark contrast to those others that come bug you when it's obvious you're busy as hell) Some are afk and just appear to be stalking you. And some are private dicks hired by your jealous spouse to spy on your virtual boinking activities. |

thats probably a big reason for that whole privacy bounce script thread =p
.. if someone comes across people doing something .. that its obvious they would prefer to be private .. they should have some common decency and fly away. No polite person would go up to their neighbors' window in the middle of the night to listen to them, after all. Even though .. at least till the peeping tom was caught, wouldnt be that difficult for him to do. Unless they had a big dog =p |

I really find it creepier if I IM and they don't respond, and they happen to actually be there (by easy way of tell like head movement or if they suddenly dart off later without a reply).
But yeah, it can be unsettling. One thing to remember is the detachment factor: just like how packed clubs in SL full of dancing avatars doesn't necessarily correlate to their offline counterparts all merryjigging away, so the same could be said for someone lurking outside a window. It's nice to say HELLO!!! ![]() _____________________

That land texture skin thing is just plain weird... they still show up on the Minimap though no?
Actually when it happened yesterday the person was moving every so often so they were there.... we TPd to another place, right before I got my TP invite I was running out the door as fast as I could towards them and was about to go "HELLO!!!!!" and hopefully freak em out. |

I've had some people that have come up to my house and just sit right on the front porch. Or one time, when my roommate was in the house with her bf, one was outside swimming in the pool.
Just makes ya wonder...if they are that pathetic they can't get any avie sex on their own, they have to watch someone elses. |

It doesn't bother me. I either ignore them, give them a shout or strip naked and rez some sheep.
If I happen to be with my gf, and she is uncomfortable about it, then I will IM them and ask what's up. _____________________

A good idea for a SL tv show would be a guy that just walks in on couples with noise makers, particles and flashing lights and gives them money

yeah and some people get disgusted at what they peep at! This review of SL came from www.mmorpg.com..... it described SL as having...
"....a very, seriously, large homosexual player base" and was digusted that... ""zooming" into someone's house and seeing truly disgusting photo lining the wall is horrible" some people! |

I guess we shouldn't be too quick to assume someone doing something like hanging around outside is spying, unless of course they stick around or look suspicious... they probably were spying but I say this because often times I like to run/fly around and just check out all the different things I can find, and I've surprised a lot of people when i've accidentally fallen into their houses and whatnot. Only walked in on one couple... twice in a row.... but they didn't mind and they were doing it right in the middle of a feild so it wasn't like they were trying to protect any privacy.
A tip, if you're on your way to a "private" location, try not to come close to anyone after you TP nearby... as far as I can guess, as you pass by them they could see you're on your way somewhere and alt-click you and "follow" you virtually undetectable... I haven't tried this to see if it only works for a certain distance but it's something to be wary of if you like your privacy. |

"I've had some people that have come up to my house and just sit right on the front porch. Or one time, when my roommate was in the house with her bf, one was outside swimming in the pool."
That seems totally innocent to me...there isn't really an obvious difference between a public place and a private residence (unless those red barrier things keep you out). I've always assumed that if I am physically allowed on the property, then its ok for me to check it out, incluing inside if the doors aren't locked. Granted, if someone is 'home' it would be polite to say hello and announce your prescence (if it looks like a home, not a shop or something), but if you don't have your mini-map up, you wouldn't even know anyone else was there.. |

I just popped down good ole AV Detector. So when they 'sneak' in, I get the icon creation message.

I totally agree.... in fact despite my complaints I would never assume someone is peepin'... I always say hi if I can or cant see the people in a house, and I never really think to myself that I shouldn't go in anywhere, so I just use judgement. If its a male + female or otherwise look like a couple, or it looks like I'm sorta not wanted, i'm outta there pretty fast. |

I don't mind if folks walk into my house, as long as they don't act like jerks, but I will usually say, *knock, knock* outside of someone elses home if they are inside, and won't enter unless they tell me to come in.
Of course if they aren't home, I'll go inside and snoop around. ![]() _____________________

I love the smell of latency in the morning. Anyway... I'm the curious explorer type. I often zoom in to check out things like furniture, wall hangings, carpeting, etc. Sometimes there are people in the place, sometimes not. In all honesty, I've never stopped to think how they perceive my presense. I guess I assume that they will assume harmless intent or at least speak to me if there is an issue. Then again, I tend not to explore around known BDSM dungeons or Furry Yiff Houses or any house marked with a red light, etc.... (grin) _____________________

That's too funny. I'd like to see that review in its entirety. I've been here for over a year and I've hardly seen anything obscene. Makes me wonder how hard the reviewer was trying to "happen upon" that kind of thing. ![]() _____________________
