I'm flying to Austin this weekend to shoot interviews at SXSW for my feature film on SL. I'm covering the next year in SL of Nephilaine Protagonist and the growth of her PixelDolls store. I'd also like to pull in some other view points and discuss why virtual worlds matter. You can check out some early footage at the following web address. www.theidealworld.tvThe web site is still a work in progress, but at least you can see what's going on. I believe there maybe bugs present for users running Safari. If your near Austin and want to discuss your expierences with SL, leave me a note on this forum and i'll try to get in touch with you. I'll be there untill Wed and have hours of tape i'd like to use listening to what you have to say about SL. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey Pierce, cool! I'm checking this out... I like how the website glows and the lush green background. Wow! A whole year too! I believe tho, that it's spelled "Documentary" and "Neil" is spelled as "Niel" on the site. Also, 'Laine correct me if I'm wrong, but "PixelDolls" is one word too. Just little things. *smiles*

Hey thanks for the grammer check. We rushed to get this out before SXSW so i'm sure there are a zillion similar errors littered around the site. With your help maybe we can get them all. I hope you enjoy the video. Neil and Neph are such facinating people.

YAY!!! I've been dying to talk about this, it's a relief to have it announced. Neil and I are thrilled to be involved in this documentary and have very high hopes for it. If you have thoughts on SL and are in the Austin area, you really should meet up with Brad and Jodie for a chat. They are a blast to talk to. Congratulations, Pierce, and best of luck as you continue this ambitious but fascinating project. Have fun in Austin!!! *HUGS* Nephi

Heh, I have NEVER heard of these people. Their writeup about me is... uh... kind of insane, too. That wasn't EXACTLY what happened, plus I don't have a house at the moment.

I think this is exactly what SL has needed for a little while. It's important to show just how Second Life has changed so many lives and left an amazing impression on the virtual world.
If you ever need a historical advisor, I am able to give you a lot of information on important historic events in SL. Good luck with the creation of this feature and can't wait to see the final product!

WOW! Since Pierce isn't here to say it, thank you all so much for your enthusiasm. Everything is still in it's early stages, and I am sure it will all only get cooler from here!

Wow, what a fantastic project! Now I know where Neph and Neil have been hiding lately, hehehe. I can't wait to start seeing footage - I'm awaiting a download now. What a neat site design as well... I love things that move horizontally on the web... 99% of scrolls are vertical and all! Regards, -Flip

Hi Pierce, I just flew to Austin myself. I'm speaking on Monday morning on "Journalism and Blogging About Online Worlds," with Hamlet (New World Notes) and Urizenus (Second Life Herald), hope you can make it Feel free to shoot me a PM via the forum here if you're interested in hooking up before then.

And... can anyone name another MMO that has documentaries being done on it ... ?
*silence*
Bueller? Bueller?
*crickets chirping*
I think developers, creators, and all residents should be grinning ear to ear that we're creating a world so intriguing and colorful that it invites this sort of in-depth investigation.
I love it!

at sxsw now

where will you be, and when?
i'm at sxsw with a couple of folks from work, tho i'm the only one in my group that "does" SL. i'd love to help out with your documentary, or even just meet up and talk. and drink.
send me an IM or post a reply here, and hopefully we can meet up with some folks while in austin.
on monday at 10, there's a panel on journalism and MMO*s - which i'm planning on attending. i imagine if there are other SLers here, they'll be at that panel as well.
best of luck with your documentary. i'd love to see it at a future SXSW when it's done.

All the film clips are dated, but Niel and Neph are wearing the SAME CLOTHES in each of them... Smelly?
