Thoughts: 1. Teen Grid (Doubt it, since it was announced to all people in a way as to advertise to adults.) 2. New land type - like the release of snow sims or the Eucalyptus sims. - This would be very cool. I've loved how they have added different types of land and trees and such. 3. New land rules - zoning, perhaps? Government? Some sort of new trial of a concept? 4. Private venture of mass scale - maybe, who knows. Though, previous big announcements have been preceded with rumors - like the teen grid announcement, the $8million announcement, etc. 5. New features with 1.6? Hey, why not? I got a bug report back that said an issue would be solved in 1.6. It didn't SEEM like a terribly complicated issue, so my conclusion was that 1.6 would be coming soon.
It could be any or multiple. I'm guessing here. Lindens are tight lipped.

From: Magnum Serpentine Could it be, Jeska, a fancy way of announcing the teen area land mass which none of us will get to and none of the teens will be able to leave? That would be nice, the polar bears and dinosaurs would keep the teens occupied. Hard to create drama when something's running after you to eat you.

What a fun read! Very nice job, and a great way to build up the anticipation.
And nice job Jeska on slippin in the forum reference. Was very funny!
If anything, the ship leaving the atmosphere leads me to believe it might be a more futuristic area, or perhaps an area that has some alien type ruins or structures on it here and there. Perhaps something like the Lost Continent of Atlantis?

What is that bit of map in the magellan pic at the top? Is it the new continent or existing land? If it's something already existing, where is it located, and could it have something to do with the new place?

so glad to see MAgellan again!
02-10-2005 10:51
i was afraid that the world was expanding too fast to need him anymore, i'm glad to see there are still some sleeves with tricks out there. as far as the new land goes, maybe it takes a ship to get to/from the mainland and back again? i'm going with the "not TeenSL grid" theory. of course, logically, one would think it would some wintery type land due to it's northern location; however, since we already have snow sims.. i imagine we'll be seeing something different. it's possible that it's akin to the private islands and maybe someone has gone and decided to buy up an entire landmass.. which is exactly what i would do if i won the lottery.. whatever it turns out to be, it's exciting and i'm sure the new landmass will be just that! and thank you LL for enriching our history in this fashion once again.. Magellan has been key in the introduction of important new developments. each being a significant addition to our world. now.. we just have to wait (im)patiently until we find out what it truly is!

hmm...
02-10-2005 11:36
i've started thinking again.. (uh-oh)
depending on what the set up is of the new landmass.. i may consider moving my Erga HQ's up north. i would relish an opportunity to be one of the first to colonize such an exciting place..
don't get your hopes TOO high, Marcos.. but it's possible you'll get the chance to expand your land holding in Miramare.. maybe.

Okay, so I'm not too SL savvy. But it seems to me that a whole bunch of more exciting less lag, higher fps land is about to be released. Or am I reading all of this wrong? If I'm right, wouldn't I be better off holding out until the new land is released before purchasing this 8k sqm I was getting ready to buy?
Also, why would anyone at this point, pay $1501 USD for 16k sqm lot in auction today when there will be a glut soon?

You know, it would be better, fairer, funner, more realistic if LL allowed us to explore the new worlds out there and report back to the rest of the population. Forget Magellan, fund a group of inworld explorer-consumers as a business venture, as part of the "game". And make it a tough committment.

Maybe they're sharding?
Rather than rolling out 1.6 to everyone all at once, they are setting up another area which will hold all the new technology and they'll slowly ramp everyone up into it.
This way, they do not risk another 1.5 fiasco.

The discovery of new land doesn't affect the amount of land we auction each week.

Haney, I volunteer for the explorer initiative! Magellan, take me with you, I'll mop the decks and flush the bilge pumps! I want to explore, to find new natives and forcibly convert them to the worship of Mt Ga'al! I want to stripmine their prims and come back to the mainland a wealthy avatar!
This new land, it's so full of possibilities!
Teen Grid, or new landmass, or self-governed areas, or semi-private zone......whatever it's going to be, clearly something Big is about to happen.

I too offer my services aboard your ship Magellan! I know a couple of shanties, I can say "arrr", and I'm willing to be paid in grog.

New Neverland
02-10-2005 13:56
Since this was written up on the same page as Neverland, Burning Life, and other special events of limited duration, I'm guessing this is more of the same. Sounds like the next Linden-sponsored thing. We'll probably see a few new temporary sims with some really cool unified theme and lots of stuff to explore. Burning Life was 5 sims, Neverland was 3... I'm guessing no more than 6 sims, but full of scrumptious goodness. Perhaps some void sims for sailing around between landmasses. Anyway, I'm looking forward to checking it out and being way lagged.

I bought a map of the new land last night! Magellan, you NEED me on this voyage, I have been talking with an old seafarer with a dead albatross strewn around his neck. He has BEEN to the land and tells me that it is FULL of prims. In fact, the map pinpoints the locations of 7 entire cities, built of PRIMS. The land is full to bursting with PRIMS, and they're available for anyone with the drive, the courage who can survive the voyage and claim them.
Please, oh please take me with you

could they be trying to introduce the new chinatown sim thingy? i hope its a new grid thay has no THs and every1 has to go about more realisticly... that would c a rise of car sales. It might be the introduction of 1.6 as it's rumoured that it used Havok 2? and they couldn't just plop that on our current grid could they? OMG (LOL) wot if we all had to emmigrate to the new grid and the old one was flushed away ... maybe donated to the teens! Ahh there's so many possibilities - so exciting! Stories like this are great. I'm sure the Lindens are sitting laughing at our kwacky suggestions of what it might be

Teen Grid seems likely... I found myself trying to see if any of the explorers' personalities match up with current or potential Liaisons. How about this? The new land is a vast continent with millions of acres of empty land, and the economy is based on buying batches of prims instead of square meters? ^_^
