http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/americas/11/15/canadian.welcome.ap/index.html You know who is least respected in a fight? The person who ALMOST won, but runs away like a crybaby when they don't get their way. I disliked those kind of kids in grade school and dislike them now. "Well, if you won't do it my way, then I'm leaving!" I'd always laugh and say, "CYA!

You know what's even worse than a whiner or a sore loser??? A sore winner. A Braggart. Someone who gets off on deriding the 49% of the country that doesn't like Bush. I personally have no respect for someone who doesn't respect someone's right to disagree.
My 2 cents,
Arti

I'm not saying you have to believe the way I do.
Disagree... my point of this post (in case you missed it) was that I don't respect the people who are fleeing the country over a conservative being re-elected. It proves they don't give a shit about the 49% that they were part of. Their leaving only makes the liberal even more difficult to win.
What if a football team had players quit and go home every time they lost a game? With each new game, their chances of winning drop even more. If they kept losing and players kept leaving the team, by the end of the season they'd just have to forfeit each game they were scheduled to play.
BY LEAVING, that is what these "we're-outta-here" liberals are doing to their "team." My post was directed ONLY at those leaving. (Read it again.)

aah good points!
Yea well I don't agree that running off to Canada will solve anything either... besides it takes like a year for the paperwork to process and another 3 to become a full fledged citizen I think anyway LOL!
What I really don't like is the fact that Kerry conceded so quickly, considering that there is so much up in the air about election fraud. I lost a lot of respect for him that day, after all that "every vote will be counted" crap. I just want to know for SURE that every vote does count. I don't understand why it's so friggin hard for this country to get its collective shit together in regards to elections. The electoral college needs to go away for sure.
I am very glad 120+ million people got out and did vote though.

I agree with you to a point, Aaron, but in fairness to the people leaving, some people just want to be able to live their lives in a society that respects them without having to endure the next four years of diminishing civil rights and continued melding of church and state. Personally, I'm too much of a fighter to leave, but I can certainly understand the desire.

Sounds like they don't want a fight, and they're giving up everything they've worked for up to this point to avoid it. Potential new Canadians : If you're single and like to play SL and hate going to crowded places lets get married and watch the pending chaos on TV next to a of a wood burning fire.

Actually, I was pretty surprised there wasn't rioting in the streets and other stuff after the election was over. Everyone that I know who voted vor Kerry is mad as hell, go figure.

From: Donovan Galatea And that says something about the state of the country, doesn't it? But I agree -- no Canada! Grab your automatic weapons (courtesy of you-know-who) and join me in the Revolution. It certaintly says something about 49% of the peoples fear of this administration. I'm 50 years old, I've been through a lot of administrations, both conservative and liberal but this the the first time that I have ever been AFRAID of my government. In many ways, I think it's worse than Joseph McCarthy's 1954 reign of terror - though similar. Instead of communism, the enemy is "people who lack family values as [Fundamentalist Christians] define them". When I look at all the people in the U.S. who have been killed by Fundamentalist Christians in terrorists attacks since 1982 - I'm horrified. (I can give you a list if you question this - no problem). So Yes - I'm afraid of these people. Nevertheless - I do intend to stay and fight, even though (being a former dual American/Canadian) I could easily go back.

As an American who lived in Canada for 5 years, I have to say that if you're gonna leave, the Great White North is the place to go. I moved there for matters of the heart, and not matters political, but my points are just the same.
I lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and I have never met a more wholesome, friendly, and welcoming bunch of folks. The best thing about Nova Scotians is that you can seperate the assholes out right away. If a person is kewl, you realize it in a moment, and if they're an asshole, you realize it just as quickly.
There's no spending tons of energy on seperating the wheat from the chaff.

P.S. Oh yeah... and weed has been decriminalized up there too.

"If you don't like it then get out" "you're a crybaby if you leave" You can't have both. Either the people leaving are leaving, because hey, you didn't want them here anyway. Or they're crybabies for leaving, because hey, they didn't want to be here anyway. It's not the same thing in this instance. As a third alternative, unrealistic, alternative, we could replay the civil war. Except this time the North will lose. I'd rather think that walking away from the fight is better then turning around and saying, "dem's fightin' words!" and the brawl insues.

we have the same situation here too, government says that if the residents leave, they are not loyal to the country, they are quitters. But if they stay, they dont have much choices or decisions to make due to the patriachial system ...
Damned if we do, damned if we dont

The fact of the matter is, I'm tired of fighting. My voice isn't being heard no matter how loud it gets. Since the 'elite' are so inclinded of their own agendas why bother listening to anyone else? It's a losing battle on both sides.
THATS why people are LEAVING.

I am going nowhere. Someone has to hold the jackasses in power accountable when they screw up. Running off to Canada will change nothing, because the current Administration simply doesn't care if you run away. It makes things easier on them.

They won't even hold themselves accountable what difference would it make if someone stayed to?
The only way this will change is with a new administration, and who knows what might happen in the next 4 years.

There is always 2006. Piss off enough people, and the idiot fringe of the Republican party loses power.

From: Teeny Leviathan There is always 2006. Piss off enough people, and the idiot fringe of the Republican party loses power. It'd be nice if we could cut out the step where they GAIN power in the first place tho. I've seen this cycle for years. Step 1) Look around you at how bad things are, and elect a democrat. Step 2) Watch said democrat fix things. Step 3) Look around at how good things are now and vote republican because things are good enough now for you to listen to your baser instincts and believe that tax cuts and deregulation are the solution to all of life's ills. Step 4) Watch everything go to shit again. Lather, rinse, repeat.
