From: Blake Rockwell You put your account up for Auction on Ebay and the winning bidder gets your account information to access the Avatar and becomes owner..which is questionable. Think really hard. Good grief... you mean the ACCOUNT, not the Avatar, right? It's sad that it takes 16 posts in a thread before we know what the heck you are actually trying to ask. And for the record, I don't care if people sell their accounts. Is there anything in the TOS about it?

by avatar do you mean:
1> the pieces of information that create the image of our virtual bodies
or
2> the account and our pseudonym?

Apparently he MUST mean your account..... That which you sign into.
Because if he meant our Avatars it would be moot - no need to vote - we already can, and do, this...
Although I don't see the correlation between selling your account and upskirt pics.
Siggy.

silly poll since the ToS clearly states.............. 2.5 Account. By using the Service you agree that even though you may retain certain copyright or other intellectual property rights with respect to works you create (your "Content," as defined in Section 6.1 below) while using the Service (as specified in Section 5.3 below), you do not own the account you use to access the Service, nor do you own any data Linden stores on Linden servers (including without limitation any data representing or embodying any or all of your Content).

Again, Blake .. ignore the STFU comments. Most of us do.
I think the ability to sell an avatar is an interesting one. Are you selling their reputation? What rights does the public have about knowing that you have sold the avatar?
I always err on the side of the creator, so I think you should be able to sell the Avatar without alerting anyone. However, the public should always have the caveat - past performance does not necessarily indicate future performance.

LOLOLOL That actually gave me a good laugh. Sound's like you are reading from a script there. LOL It also sounds like I hit a nerve pretty good there. I am sorry if I hurt ya too much there Blakey, it's just that I can't stand Narcissist (Those who are totally in love with ones self) and you caught me at a bad time (My father is in the hospital again... might not make it) and I sort of reacted as I am quite worried, and not acted like I usually do. I am only human, but that is no excuse I know...... "Life is 10% what happens to us, and 90% how we react to it." And that Love comment was only said cause the first time you saw me in game, you demanded I strip naked before you so you could "check me out" (your words). I just thought you went that way is all. I have NO prob's with anyone's sexuality so long as they do not include me in anything I do not want to be included in. Thought you were making a "pass" at me a bit in passing (based on your past actions). sorry I misconstrued you sir. Won't happen again. I will extend my apologies as I did not know it would strike a nerve so close to home, and instead quote you part of a musical (Le' Mes) in your honor. Enjoy... LOL Master of the House Isn't worth my spit Confidant, philosopher, and life long sh*t Cunning little brain Regular Voltaire Thinks he's quite a lover But there's not much there What a cruel trick of nature Landing me with such a louse God knows how I've lasted Living with this bastard in the house Master of the house -Master and a half Confidant, philosopher -Don't make me laugh Servant to the poor Butler to the great -Hypocrite, toady, and inebriate Everybody bless the landlord Everybody bless his spouse Everybody raise a glass -Raise it up the master's as* Everybody raise their glass's to the Master of the house

I am only human, but that is no excuse I know...... I am discontent that you percieve me as a Narcissist or anyone for that matter. Understand that It was only an interview for placement for a Vegas Style Performance Group and without the appropriate skin and or costumes example: Clothing/attire..Tuxedos, (Performance Attire) and uniformity in correlation to the performance it may not be perceived as professional. I also wanted to see where you got your skin and or what it looked like in correlation to what I had so that I may better improve mine for the show. I regret that your father is ill, and I wish you and your family well. Persuing being an Entertainer is not all it's cracked up to be, because; some percieve you exactly as you did me, weather they are male or female one may look at any performer or actor in that manner. I was simply trying to put together a show for people in SL to enjoy. Maybe I should pursue something else as I do not like to be percieved as concieded, as it obviously takes a tole on friendship.

The answer is no. Chance Small tried selling his lifetime membership awhile back, and was told by Linden Lab that he was not allowed to.
Cyanide Leviathan rented his land allocation from his lifetime membership, but maintained the account itself.

Blake, I can't quite understand the benefit of being able to buy an account. I mean its not like you are acquiring that person's building or scripting skill along with it, is it? Plus its against the rules, so I voted NO.
I have seen accounts for sale on Ebay from MMORPGS, where a person has worked to get to a certain level of combat and skills etc. I can understand that more, but that's for lazy people who want the kudos of a high level without the work involved.

There is no real proffit in this. 1st it's against the ToS so its a moot point. 2nd since it only the image (IE: avatar) you would be buying there again is no proffit unless its a profit of EGO. 3rd as it has been mentioned before, you would not be buying anything like skills, items, stats, ect so it is again pointless to do so in the first place.
The only way I can see someone profit from this (besides a self gratifying ego boost perhaps) is if they bought a 'founder' account so as to pose AS that founder to perhaps con & scam people. As there is NO benefit from this, it is a total waste of time. SL has no skills, no needs, and no nothing which could be of true value for the transaction to have any worth of substance. I have known MANY folks from differant games (such as TSO & SWG) who would rip this thread appart if they were here cause the selling of a persons acount in SL has no true worth at all.
However if SL accounts did have things like 'needs', skills, ect to offer then it would worth a lot more, but till that day arives Blake, its meaningless. There are exceptions to every rule however, and buying an account for sedemental reasons is one of them (IE: a love leaves the game and you buy her/his account to remember them by).
For me however, it isn't worth spit...........

you can sell your av, all you have to do is transfer payment info . Easy enough to do, get a prepay credit card, put in the info, change your password, change your info, send the new password to the person you sold it to. tell them to change the account info as the card is going away in a week. account sold

probably shouldn't do this to your main well known av. It's to your dissadvantage, but if you wanted to build avs specifically for the purpose, then I suppose you could plan for it.

"Arnold Schwarzenegger looks like a condom full of walnuts." - Clive James I don't know why Ego even has to come up..it has nothing to do with it. First of all, if your Avatar owns a business like a Mall, Vendors, etc. etc., the person that buys the AV gets what the AV owns and it's reputation. The AV is part of the account. So the buyer is actually buying the AV that also owns the AV business. That is the point im talking about, however; a new person could come in and create an AV and then buy the business from the other AV just as well. Oh now I see where you may be thinking about Ego is because there are no Stats involved. But the original issue isn't necessarily in correlation to just this game. As far as the comparision of my whole point, I understand how someone gets attached to their Avatar and feels they are being violated concerning the issue with Taco; but in Reality one does not own his or her Avatar if they did they would be able to sell it. So; in making a big issue out of someone using a camera on their AV has been blown out of proportion a bit and has caused contreversy concerning Avatar rights, meaning; you being the creator of the Avatar brings up the question of your Privacy Rights concerning someone taking your picture without consent, thereby making it seem that the Avatar is actually there's and it is a personal issue when in reality it is a Terms of Service issue in contrast to the game company. I hope this isn't too confusing.
