Oh look, Jimmy, another SL popularity contest.

I wonder who's butt will get the most kisses?

Gee, I don't know Mom, I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I <3 Catherine and wish she would come in game damnit! You hear me Cat?!!

I think "famous" is different to everyone, the world is so big now and I swear it seems like only yesterday I complained about having to fly from Tehama to Tan lol. There are plenty of people in world that have never even heard of me. I was pretty intimidated back when I became part of Nexcorp, a group that was branched off of Tyrell. I was around these people I'd only *heard* of at the time or had only met once or twice lol.

Catherine Omega, Dave Zeeman, Ezhar Fairlight, bUTTONpUSHER Jones, BuhBuhCuh Fairchild, Wednesday Grimm, Water Rogers, Spider Mandala, Casval Epoch, Bel Muse, Washu Zebrastripe, and several others were suddenly people I was around every day. I got to know them (some of them really well :P <3) and they are still among my favorite people in SL, I still bug most of them to this day lol. My point is those were people I held up and still do as "famous" or infamous lol but I'm betting a lot of people that will read this have either not heard of some of them or haven't had the pleasure of meeting them. We're talking about brilliant scripters, designers, builders, and pioneers of SL. Most of them aren't what you'd call *social* and are usually knee deep in some project :).

I consider myself very lucky that I got to see their work and the amazing things they are capable of. To me it's strange today to hear that some people consider me famous because I compare myself to the group I mentioned and it's like huh? lol. I know I make clothing but I think I should be put down in the history book as the person who caused a "Pfft ban" in Bonifacio :P.

Catherine Omega is the puppet master, the silent string-puller behind the scenes. She does not garner favoritism from the Lindens, they seek it from her.

But she's still my kitty cat and my honey bee :D <3

In SL my dream had always been to become famous. Many of my items entered huge fame for a while, but have now started to die down.

Now I just wanna find out who everyone would see as "famous" in second life. A person who is so well known, anyone knows you talk about by first name alone.

Some peopel I think of as famous

Psyra Extraordinair
Hiro Pendragon
Kage Seraph
RacerX Gullwing
Wynx Whiplash

And all the Lindens....

So... who do YOU see as famous?

Awww! You're famous to me, Zekeen. But I'm not famous... I'm infamous! I'm the William Hung of SL!

I don't see anyone as famous, well known maybe, but famous?

I've yet to see a fan club devoted to any of these people, nor autograph hounds following them everywhere.

Peace,
Joseph

hehe.. You would be surprised at the DJ groupie fan clubs out there in SL. I used to belong to one for DJ Nala Galatea. :D And I've seen other fan clubs for specific people as well. :p

Fame and forum fame are to completely different things. Some people I meet in world have no idea of who people like Prokofy are, because they do not read the forums. Here are the people I would think of as grid wide famous.

Aimee Weber
Chip Midnight
Anshe Chung
Hiro Pendragon
Cubey Terra

there are many more I am sure but those are the ones I canc rattle off without thinking too hard.

He was this kid on American Idol tryouts who did a TERRIBLE rendition of a Ricky Martin song and then got a recording deal out of it because Simon was soooooo tough on him. Poor kid thought he was great.

The directors of the thread hired to continue the thread after the other people had been sacked, wish it to be known that they have just been sacked.

The thread have been completed in an entirely different style at great expense and at the last minute.

As flattered as I am ... honestly there are tons of very significant people who work behind the scenes. I realize that's not the point of the thread... but understand behind every famous person is likely one or three not-so-famous people.
hey hun you are famous and MMM really cute!! May be we can hook up sometime! Please!

Dude, phil fuckin' rosedale trembles in fear of Catherine Omega :D
You guys are crazy.
Catherine Omega is one of the most level-headed, smart and helpful people I have found in Second Life.
(unless this is some old-timer inside joke or something that I dont get)

These look like forum centric lists to me.

The Lindens are not all famous, I doubt most folks know much about them other than perhaps what their avatar looks like, and that could change any time.

Who knows the difference between Dan and Daniel Linden, for example? Which one deleted the scripting forum?

Hmm, that might be an example of being infamous instead of famous.
I agree.

These lists do nothing except make the lowly peons like myself feel bad for not being "famous." Hardly unusual that all the FIC types are on the list, only surprising that no one has mentioned PandaStrong yet. :)

Aimee's "nice person" list is better.
