i suppose. it's a place to start. the good should not be the enemy of the perfect. and vice versa.

if you feel someone is missing, go thank them. or mention them. or both.

the thing about notorious griefers is that they can still be helpful. it doesn't make sense, but it happens. people are complex. just because they didn't help you or griefed, doesn't mean they didn't help someone and that that person doesn't feel grateful. perhaps being thanked for being helpful will encourage them to be more helpful and less griefing.

all or nothing isn't a tenable position when it comes to people. people, and groups/list of people will not be wholely one thing or another. withholding a blessing/grace/thanks from a mostly deserving group (in one's own eyes) because of a few unworthies seems unfair to those who deserve our gratitude.

you can focus on the flaws or you can focus on the beauty. i think there's been more of the former than the latter of late.

I think you missed the point of my post :)

Y'all, I remember the original thread.

It was something like, "Who was most helpful to you when you first started?"

It wasn't, "Who are the most helpful people in SL?"

Thus, it wasn't an exercise in glorifying some people at the expense of others.

It was a question requiring recall of factual happenings.

That is why two of MY guys - who nobody knows from Adam - appear on this list.

It was a chance for me to thank them. (Again. And in public.)

So I wish y'all would stop trying to overanalyze it.

I always have more thanks to give, so thanks to everyone who's helped me in SL. It's been quite an adventure... if I've been able to help you in turn, it really touches me in a Jedi-sort of way! :)

Same here Torley and there is always someone who I feel that I have forgotten to thank or have not thanked enough! :D

coco,

The original thread was an excellent idea, was great to see one resident personally thanking another for helping them in some way. On the other hand, this thread means nothing. I think my opinions on it are far from overanalytical lol.

OK, I understand, Hiro, and maybe so. But still, kind of harmless that StoneSelf had a desire to summarize it, I figure.

aww.. *hugs* Hik. You know you are wonderful Hik.. don't need a list to prove that! :)

I always find it funny that people think I"m popular, but I *rarely* end up on the lists. hehe.. As a matter of fact, some of the main people I consider "popular" don't seem to often get on them either.

So I've never viewed the lists as "popularity" lists. I tend to like seeing what others have done to make other people happy. Sure it is gushy, but gushy can be a great relief to pent up frustration! :D

I am helpful and i don't need an asshat list to say that i am or not ;)

Yeah, I couldn't agree more, even though my name is in the list.

This is part of an internal game or metagame called "burning one's reputation". It is loosely related to the actualy posrates and negrates of the game mechanism, but it is actually on a different plane. It's "how can I posture as a Friend to Newbz and all Simkind" and show that I give away the most free stuff, help the most people with newbie questions, have the most charity events on my lot, post the most helpful tips on the forums, blah blah.

It's really NOT attractive. The recipients of all this "help" find the stench of self-celebration overpowering.

Harsh, AND incorrect.

That disgraced ex-journalist thing is someone else entirely. The people who googled this information, and the one who is now still putting it out here as fact, are wrong, in addition to breaking TOS by trying to post rl info (but doing a bad job of even getting that info correct). That ex-journalist is another person altogether, living in another state.

*Abuse Report*.

Um, I'm not a "disgraced ex-journalist". I guess you didn't get the news. That "disgraced ex-journalist" just happens to be someone with the same RL name as mine -- it's a case of mistaken identity. I didn't commit plagiarism, that person is merely a person with the same name they dredged up with google witch-hunting using my unlawfully-obtained RL name from snoops and snitches and unlawful, TOS-violating behavior.

Merwan is responsible for bruting about that vicious and nasty rumour, and even attempting to coerce my behaviour on the forums with it. I've never heard an apology about it from him *cough*.

I think it's awfully lame to be using my in-game profile for your siggie. Do you have a life? And for those of you just tuning in, that in-game profile in turn is merely self-defense against someone who had to print a whole denunciation of me on their profile because they don't have a life, evidently.

Generally, the purpose of these forums is discussion and education about Second Life. That said, this thread has gone beyond the point of useful discussion and is inappropriate for the SL Forums, for that reason it is being locked.
