While not slashdot style, there is a rating system for threads in this software - 5 for best, 1 for worst. It would be interesting to try it and see if it makes any difference.

It would be an interesting experiment to see if it would help improve the quality of the discussions or if it would instead be used to stifle unpopular or dissenting opinions. I think where Slashdot succeeds is that it provides not just rating (moderation) but it has mechanisms in place to prevent abuse, such as metamoderation (moderating the moderators), limited moderation points, and moderators cannot post in the same thread they moderate in. ~Ulrika~

Some of you might know me as "troll" or "die hard Thereian". My mission by coming into SL is to show people the light SL is not the only game out there. SLers seem to think SL is the only game no There, AW, TSO. I like SL a bit its not got the graphics i am looking for and the avatars look a bit stupid. Plus there is almost nothin that was build in the programing its all done by the members. In AW the programers but in some stuff and in There you can find about 15 cities built by the makers. The building in SL is hard i am use to Gmax i belive thats the best thing to use. Oh ya SL is flat you cant call it a world i dont know what you call it. If some one dare says it is an self building envierment i am going to scream.

If some one dare says it is an self building envierment i am going to scream. Grammar? Punctuation? At least try even if you don't know how to do it correctly please? I won't be too harsh on spelling, spelling errors are allowed as this isn't a thesis or anything. But seriously, (note the bad grammar there, it only applies to you! Not me!) why would you get upset at someone saying SL is a self built, or more accurately, a player built world? That is in fact the truth. The game is designed so that the players create all the content, the designers just gave us a clean slate to play with. And the whole thing is not flat. I do believe it has much much higher mountains than, say, TSO. Trust me, you don't want to try to walk up an SL mountain. But that's why we get to fly, hee. Really though, if you don't like the game, why do you bother playing it instead of one of the games you obviously enjoy much more? It seems like you are shooting yourself in the foot to me my man. Just take my advice, go play your other games, and leave your horrendous paragraphs out of these forums. Thanks!

Luke,
Your posting has many grammatical and punctuation errors. If I were you I'd concentrate on my own mistakes rather than other people's.
While I agree that spelling and grammar are both very important, being the very basis of our efforts at communication, it has to be acknowledged that some people can spell and write better than others. The important thing is that we should not be lazy, and should take care with our postings to make them as clear and unambiguous to others as we can.
I think that is the message we should be promoting rather than drawing attention to other people's mistakes.
