Why do you all not like my post over refunding ratings given to other people? Dan Rhodes and Ace Spades asked the same question and you all did not jump them. But when I asked it too, you all did not say, it was asked by Ace or Dan, instead you all attacked me in mass.

I am not a child, I am almost 39 years old. I am disabled. Besides that I am just like you.

I do not consider the bonus to be free money. I consider it a benefit of paying 25 bucks a month for land.

I believe these last two months have been the most time I spent here. I think I was highly shocked that so many people on the forums (not in SL however) want an end to not just the bonus but pay and I think I reacted badily to that.

If you all don't like me, tell me how I can improve my behaviour. And please do not say I should change my views to meet yours.

If it is because of my typing style. Understand it is very hard to type sometimes and I know when I make a spelling error but it is easier to go on instead of moving my hands to where they can hit the backspace button then back in position with the keys.

If it is because my views do not line up with yours. I am sorry but I will not abandon my views just to be liked by others.

I hope we can have some sort of civil discussion on this.

magnum, it is because you are beating a dead horse.

your view is not in line with LL's vision.

your view is not in line with those players who work very hard to provide content to those without the skill, or the free time. their opinion is very important, because without them there are no skins, animations, or sex balls.

your arguements are illogical and when that is exposed instead of understanding it, you start a new thread.

you fail to understand the nature of the ToS - the contract.

your 25$ tier is land rent. it has very little to do with the L$ economy.

The money you paid for rating someone was a gift, freely made by you to another player. Why should the Lindens refund you the money you decided to spend as a gift to another person?

It's like back over a year ago when they went to 1.1 and screwed up THOUSANDS of Linden dollars of my lingerie I had bought. (Oh yes, I like to pretend I suupported a lot of designers back in the day) They made a change that wasted a lot of money I invested, but I didn't cosider asking them for the money back, it would've been just as silly as you asking for your rating money back.

Magnum, if I personally paid you back the money for the ratings you've given out before the new prices, would you be willing to give me all of the money you've received as bonuses for the ratings that others gave you? IM me inworld, and we'll see if the lindens can help us to verify exactly how much you received in ratings bonuses, and we can trade, even-steven.

Hey come on, it really isn't personal. Sometimes you've just got to accept that everyone has different ideas, and they in turn think THEY have the right answer. It can be SO frustrating when you are very convinced you are right! One thing about forums, if you say white, there will always be someone to jump on you and say black. Some people just enjoy a heated debate!

Reason why I can't look back so much is that there's SO much to look forward to. Tempus est donum vitae, I have my regrets but I'm gonna keep on walking. :)

Besides, revisionist history was never my strong suit, anyway. (I'm a time-traveller, for cryin' out softly!) :D

I really wasn't wanting to continue the rating talk here. I only said that about the rating because two other people mentioned it and did not get beaten up.

Lets talk about why people do not like me and what I can do about fixing the problem.

Magnum, it's the nature of the people that are attracted to secondlife.

Truthfully, SecondLife is for pioneers.

And pioneers are generally isolated, lonely individuals who have very poor social skills and strike out as a way of releasing the constant stress they feel because they are involving themselves in cutting edge activities which don't have the comfort and safety of tradition.

Or maybe SL is just one big jerk magnet. Who knows.

Your concerns about the rating system are completely reasonable. I disagree with your activities of rating newbies as they enter in SL, but you make a lot of other good points.

For example, a user who has zero neg ratings and has been around for 2 years should account for something. It takes a lot of work not to piss people off.

The rolling decay is not a final solution, and after all the debate and discussion, I'm a little surprised that this was the best they could come up with.

I had to pay a lot of people and do a few sex ball favors with happy endings to not have the forum crowd attack me. :( lol

Seriously though I only brought it up briefly in the thread yesterday because at the time I had misunderstood the way it was being done. I didn't follow up with it and just dropped it because it wasn't a big deal to me. More curiosity over anything. Maybe that is why I didn't get attacked .. because I didn't continue with it and push it.

At the time of that post I believed it was a one time decay. I spent 1200 on ratings and figured it wasn't a bad idea to see if we could get some of them back. But the fact that everyone (and not just the older players) are going to get hit with this and that is is a reoccuring thing makes it not so big of a deal.

Dude I wouldn't worry about it. :) I'll give you a beer from my collection man to drink your worries away .. hehe Torley Torgeson gave me a ton of alcoholic beverages that use up a lot of my prim allocation.

Mags,

It's absurd for anyone to deny that there are some people who are regularly flamed and trashed in the forums, and I don't see how anyone can say its not personal. It's as personal as it gets. I remember vividly the ugliness and personal hits you took in the forum and in world because of your position on Club Elite. I also remember speaking directly to some members in world to ask that the harassment against you stop.

You are not the only one attacked in the forums. There are a few others who cannot post the time of day without being ripped a new one. That excuses no one and knowing that does not make things better for you.

It's deplorable that any of us suffer personal attack because of a position we take on an SL issue. Those who resort to personal attacks have weak arguments, and a weak character, and so they use insults to distract and to fill an intellectual void. Although I have not agreed with all of your opinions I have talked to you and Cinde in world and find you both to be warm friendly people. I have often winced at the personal barbs hurled at you, and others, in the forum and I commend your persistent determination to participate despite the hostility you have encountered.

You do have many friends Mags, and you can count me among them. *hugs*

Katy

Attacking ideas isn't the same as attacking someone personally. While there may have been personal attacks (I didn't read closely enough) there were definintely attacks on poor ideas.
Remember, poor ideas can exist seperate of a nice person. I've had plenty of poor ideas, and I'm fantastic!

The rating system was well and thoroughly gamed (unless people really did meet 3,000-odd people and saw their amazing builds/behaviour/appearance and rated them thusly) and now it's being corrected. Really, it's been long overdue and a lot of people have been saying so for a while.

Things will shake out in the end, they will provide some reward to well rated people I'm sure of it. Just be patient. If you're a nice person, with friends and a bit of a knack for a few things you'll do just fine.

Mags you know I consider you a true friend and as such I am strongly suggesting you let this go. I feel confident that this is headed in the wrong direction. No good is going to come out of this thread mang!

Magnum Serpentine, ENOUGH ALREADY!!! How many different ways does Linden Labs have to tell you NO THERE WILL NOT BE REFUNDS before you let it go! Find a better cause to piss and moan about!

And for the record, the bonus had absolutely nothing to do with owning land. If it did, your bonus would have been based on how much land you own, not the ratings you recieve.

One other little thing. You are entitled to your views. They don't have to match anybody else's views. You have shared your views, on numerous occasions. The thing I find most annoying at this point is the number of threads you've started about the same topic. You say you don't have to change your views to match others. That's completely understandable. At the same time, you need to understand that you don't need to force feed your views on others in some crazy attempt to sway everyone to think like you. You spoke your mind, now let it go.

Those who resort to personal attacks have weak arguments, and a weak character, and so they use insults to distract and to fill an intellectual void.

Sometimes, we resort to personal attacks when people demonstrate a total unwillingness to critically examine the facts, and instead fabricate their own reality in which they are right. In such cases, rational dissent is generally parried with neither logic nor cogent arguments, but with recklessly determined ignorance which is impossible to defeat in debate. In such cases, enlightened individuals agree to disagree. In the real world, those people slag each other constantly, and these ideological rifts foment until they give birth to violence. For a perfect example of this behavior, consider the Republicans and Democrats, the Whigs and the Tories, etc.

Now, this is not a comment about Magnum, so please don't be upset. It's merely my rebuttal to your assertion that ad hominem attacks are necessarily a sign of a weak argument. Sometimes, they're just a sign that your opponent is more obstinate than you are.

To address the main point of this thread, I think Magnum has come under the most fire because he has been the most vociferous of the plaintiffs. This is but one of a dozen threads which he has authored about the subject of ratings. The intensity of the responses is exponentially proportional to the number of posts about the subject. I'm sure some intrepid mathematical savant who trolls forums has given this law a name. If not, then I henceforth dub it Ardith's Law.

Magnum,

Some of us were asking legitamite questions in a very neutral manner, and were not answered. People tend to get frustrated when they see a person start a debate, then not answer the other side's viewpoints at all.

It is a fake "last edited by" message which is really just part of the body of the post. It fooled me the first time around. Sorry to spoil the joke, but as this version approaches vindictive forgery, I'm not too sorry.
