Excel Saga and Azumanga Diaoh, but I'm not really much of an anime kid. I used to hate Cowboy Bebop, but it's growing on me. Oh yeah, Lupin III. hehe

After numerous posts, only ONE of you folks mentioned Akira? Probably one of the best feature length anime films ever.

Could never get into those cuddly little Pokemon minded series. Gimme kickass mechs. Just got through 6 volumes of Dai Guard. Best way to describe this series is Big Ass Anime Mech Series meets Dilbert. Its worth at least a rental.:D

Yes! It's good! Kinda weird in some ways (almost like Evangelion, and some other odd things) but mostly normal enough that it's much better. I like the fantasy Lodoss-style part of that show the most.

Hey all,

I'm surprised that no one has yet to mention "The Vision of Escaflowne" TV series. Great fight scenes with a terrific soundtrack. I rank the soundtrack as second only to Cowboy Bebop, both done by Yoko Kano.

Other favs not already mention in this thread include:
Trigun
Gatekeepers
GateKeepers 21
Sakura Wars
Boys Be (which turned out to be a pretty serious series given the subject matter)

Currently working my way through Kiddy Grade, love the sci-fi story but the frequent Fan Service is getting irritating...

TRIGUN AHHHHHH *goes nuts* Anyways, the last episode.... wtf happened there, the final battle with knives... it wasnt very climactic... except for their huge arm-weapons... but other than that, it was kind of a disapointment...

Yoko Kanno did the Cowboy Bebop (wth kind of name is that anyway?) soundtrack? Might need to check that out...

Wasn't very climactic? Well, I don't know about Trigun, but if you want an anti-climactic ending....watch Evangelion. I think I fell asleep....:p

Oh and btw, if anyone posts possible spoilers here in the future, please warn us. I'm an anti-spoiler nazi. :D Just thought I'd be safe...

Yep, it was Yoko Kanno. Her CB soundtrack is probably one of the main reasons why I got into the series. More can be learned here, but unfortunately, the MP3 section seems to be discontinued.

Yoko Kanno is teh shiznit! My fave has to be Sharon Apple's "Pulse". I keep it looping in the background for hours at a time. I don't really know anything else by Kanno, just Sharon Apple's songs, but I'm sure they all rock.

No doubt. The music in Cowboy Bebop is excellent!

Is that "B.T." or something? I think I know that one...really good.

Try Yoko's Macross Plus stuff...there's an English and Japanese version of "Voices" and I don't know which one is better. If you want something that *really* sounds different, look up "Moon".

I'm really amazed at the fanbase here for Yoko Kanno...and anime too. Heck there's tons of great anime music, it should be more popular (especially because it's DIFFERENT from the usual TRASH the RIAA-monkeys spew out in the US constantly).

Err...yeah... makes you wonder why there's no anime-themed SL projects (anymore).

Berserk has to be one of the best animes out there....I really like the way Gats sinks deeper and deeper and the all time low has to be when he murders that child (the son of the kings brother or whatever he was). Pretty nicely done characters.

On the other hand I dont watch much anime.

Yeah, I usually don't like seemingly "invincible" characters because they become the idols of 14 year olds (heh?), but Gatz is cool. The ending sucked though. I wanted him to destroy all those lame demon things because they remind me of those bad "Hellraiser" movies, and I hate those movies.

I hear they're working on an "American" (whatever that means) second series of that show. It really sucks how they ended the first season. Really... (I'm told they had to end the first season earlier than they wanted so they just threw a quick ending together. )

Ill be damned....another ending eh? Ill be waiting eagerly for its release....

Ha ha so you disliked the ending because of the Hellraiser type demons ? =) Well I agree that it was surprisingly sloppy done for a so well executed series....but regarding Gats (Gatts, Gatz, Gatzu or however its spelled =) I must say that I too felt some distaste for the whole "invincible" thing, been done a thousand times too many already, but the beauty of the character was for me that his morality and ethics were far from invincible. Physically he was a monster but he was easily manipulated by that white haired dude (damn its been too long since I wathced it heh), commiting horrible acts to win his favour. And he was helpless when he faced that demon Zodd too, no amount of violence could win that figth for hím. So I guess I have a weakness for flawed heroes or perhaps even the villains, because I enjoyed this series immensly.

Actually I don't think it's an alternate ending (although that would be cool), I heard it was a continuation (remember the first show, which is actually the last?) He's supposed to go around wiping out those ugly demon jerks in the continuation or something (yes!!!!!!!), but for all I know the whole thing could have been cancelled...(haven't checked up.)

Griffith is the name you're forgetting. The music's pretty different in that show, too. Too bad some of it is kind of depressing. :p

The Berserk anime isn't exactly standalone. It's intended as a companion piece/prelude to the Berserk manga, which is just starting to be released in translated form here in the U.S. If you liked the anime I do recommend the manga...but be ready for the long haul, because there are 26 collected volumes (maybe even more by now) and the series continues to be published on a weekly basis.

I can't believe I forgot the Escaflowne TV series. I should mention that's another great show that was planned for a second season, got cancelled, and so ended up with a painful ending.

Oh, another Yoko Kanno track to look up: "Myung Theme" from Macross Plus, although I think it's just an instrumental version of Voices. ? Sounds pretty different though.

Here's a flash movie that uses it. (Newgrounds link, beware popups and porn ads lol...)

http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/77744

Don't know about the Berserk manga, I'm not really into manga. Not sure why...

Princess Mononoke/Spirited Away/Akira all very good must sees. Hard no to mention the Evangelion series but i wasn't too thrilled at the ending.
Not a big fan of Ah! My Goddess, however the Movie was pretty good.
I've seen waay too much of Revolutionary Girl Utena - of which i blame on friends. =)
I used to be a big fan of Cityhunter, that is until i saw the MOVIE, which i thought was a big let down.
Other stuff i've seen i'ld recommend

Lastexile - especially for the steampunkish ambiance to it.
Spriggan
Gunbuster - for the gigantic blackhole bomb at the end!
Grave of the Fireflies
Blue Submarine No6
Goldenboy!!

and the many others mentioned before, there some great stuff listed. Haven't seen Metropolis though.

Hmmm perhaps I should dare trying out the Berserk manga, Ive never had the courage to buy any manga before, the few examples Ive seen has been a bit deterring =)

I´ll keep an eye out for the contuination, I hope it comes to Sweden soon after its released (if it ever will be =( ), but perhaps I could mailorder from the US, hmm...

Oh! Grave of the fireflies was good, felt like a "real" movie but drawn, nicely done. Rereading the thread I see that someone mentioned Hellsing too, isnt that the series with that dude in long red coat with the giant hat who has a huge goddamn handcannon? If so, then I agree its cool, at least the part I remember. But I didnt like the way that broad was drawn, the huge breasts just looked weird on such small body.
Oh well.
