A big squidgy 'awww' to the implementation of the partner programme.

But I hadda laugh at this comment in the announcement...

And make your decision carefully, because if you decide to get divorced, the requesting partner will be charged L$25.

Ok. You can turn the thread into something useful now if you like.

HAhaha

OMG, I am so glad I married Washu before they introduced that 10L$ fee, that would have crippled us.

Pfft.

Maybe think it should be US$? cause a price that low I am wondering why they even bother.

PS. Lookit, it's flip there!

Well time to marry everyone I see, since L$25 is hardly a punishment.

That's why they never use the word 'marry'. (Or I'm fairly certain they don't. If they did, it's a mistake. To offset the open-source bilge they drink out there, everyone takes their "openmindedness" pills in California.)

No mention of "marriage" except in the sense of the partnership being an alternative to real life marriage. Which is promo, only.

All kinds of questions!

Same-sex partnerships allowed? Must be.

Same-species partnerships allowed? Must be.

More than one partnership allowed at a time? Polygamy? Polyandry? Bigamy? And with more than one gender or species? Androids included?

One step in an emerging relationship between partnering, groups, business, and land-ownership?

And the all-important question in SL these days -- what about Alts? If you can't partner with yourself, what about partnering with your alt? If you can't partner with more than one person, you could -- with an alt.
______________

In fact, if the answer to some of these questions is "yes", we could rewrite the concepts of extended family, feudalism, and corporatism in Second Life. Or, another way of looking at it -- Partnerships could be the first true contract inworld -- just as "marriage" was in real life, thousands of years ago. Amazing, the blend of late paleolithic and twenty-first century social and political customs and rituals in Second Life.

:)

Yeah, that's like... well, 1 trivia question. :) Well, at some games anyway. Haha.

Well said. That's what I like so much about this place. But I think that these contracts -- as you say -- must be taken more seriously in some instances to actually last for not such a limited temporal amount. I like to see more love in the world but when partners are being swapped out and fire burns angrily every few weeks in some churning cycle that is more akin to "fire and fire" than any such loving relationship, I do not like it.

Given how easily gender can be changed, why not?

Also, Broken and I both have female avs. We're partners. :)

Currently: adds your partner's name to the partner field of your profile.

Coming whenever: Shared last names and the ability to be a two person group, and share land with each other.

Or at least that's what it said on the last page. It don't show me that no more. o.o

Essentially, public recognition of what is hopefully love between two consenting adults. :)

I have a feeling I shall remain partnerless in my SL life. I'll be the kind old lady down the street that hands out cookies and milk. :D
