Nutmeg is nice! But enough of it, and you start hallucinating. Too much of it, and you drop dead. That's not nice. :) The TDlo for humans is something like 214mg / Kg... so that's someplace around 15g to show significant toxic effects in humans. Okay, that's an awful lot of nutmeg. :D

Two tablespoons (not recommended!!!!) of the stuff and you'll be seeing pretty lights, though. :p

Cool! That explains why people see flashing lights when they eat my chili! I've always wondered. :D

One more, what the heck. I make this stuff a lot. It's nothing special, but it's nice. And disgustingly good for you. :D

Revisited January Soup

1-2 lbs ground beef (medium lean)
1 large onion, chopped
1 bunch of green onions, chopped
3 leeks, chopped
3 medium potatoes, cubed
1 turnip, cubed
1 broccoli... thing. Are those heads? I dunno what those are called. Chopped.
1/2 cauliflower, chopped
1 bag of baby carrots or 3 medium carrots, chopped
1 package of sliced white mushrooms (sue me, I'm lazy)
3 celery stalks, chopped
4 tsps beef stock powder
1 can crushed tomatoes
1 can tomato paste
1 clove fresh garlic
12 cups of water
some bay leaves
salt, pepper, ground red pepper, rosemary (just a bit!)
A love of chopping, apparently. :)

Brown beef, half of the onion, some fresh garlic. Add the tomato paste to the ground beef whilst browning. Add the beef, vegetables, water, crushed tomatoes, and all the other goodies to a biiiiiig pot (I use an 11L stock pot). Bring to a low boil, then reduce to simmer for an hour. Gets better with age, I've noticed (as long as it's not old enough to start walking on its own). Freezes wonderfully.

Cross, Mmm That recipe for the January revisited soup sounds wonderful. I love soup...especially homemade soup. I'm going to cook some up this weekend and btw is a stem of broccoli called a head? dunno i know lettuce is called that, not sure bout broccoli :confused:

Anyways, I can't say it enough , ty all so much...not only am I getting some great ideas for this Thanksgiving dinner but I also have great ideas for dinner every night next week lol.

Hehe, I'm honestly not sure what they're supposed to be called. According to my friend Silv, they'd be 'evil little trees' of broccoli. :D

Mmm, I think I'm gonna have to try some of these recipes, myself. Yum. :)

AppleJack is a form of distilled cider...but it is bonded as a whiskey...very yummy splashed on apple tarts for flaming or mixed with mulled cider at the very end for an extra punch. I believe Laird's makes one of the best versions...but some hooch "farmers" come up with some nifty twists to the idea.

ohh and broccoli come in bunches if they have stalks if not they are called heads I believe.

Renting or borrowing a few turkey fryers might be a really good way to go, but a lot of times the market will cook them free for you.

Applejack sounds good! I've never had it, but I suppose I'll have to try it now.

And the tops of broccoli are commonly called "florets." If you use the broccoli stalks, it is best to peel off the tough outer layer before cooking or eating. You can make a nice broccoli slaw from shredded broccoli stalks.

David has a good idea about asking your grocer or deli to cook your turkey for you or borrowing alternative cookers. I've never had a deep-fat fried turkey, but they have become quite popular in the past five years or so. Another cooking method is to use an indoor table-top or outdoor (for your barbecue grill) rotisserie unit.
