i dont think the Lindens will ever develope wasteland left over in sims for roads as once the sim matures and residents move in... there is more lag, and its to hard for them to build raods (aww don't you just feel sorry for them.. NOT) I was once told (lol) that if a sim comes online without a road, it will never have a road. but i dont know how reliable that source was ![]() Actually in many sims (like the one i live in for instance) there are long narrow stripes of linen land that seem purposedly made to fit a road in, they would just need to lay it. But it seems that lazyness sometimes gets the best of people... The thing that kinda irritates me is that other sims are decorated with roads, highways, beautiful bridges, forests... I think they just should even out the level of "linden attention" in every sim, not only in a few selected ones. Or at least let us decorate the wasteland ourselves in some way. The new eastern sims are a great example of it, the roat is fun to drive, it has nicely built bridges and forests all around and telehubs are great to see. It would be nice if the lindens finished developing existing sims (a good part of wich is empty still anyway) before creating new ones. _____________________

when i see road pieces missing, i report it to the linden who made the roads in that area. they've always thanked me for brining it to their attention and fix it within a day or two. i've done this quite a few times buying and selling land in various areas around the grid.
a friend of mine did this for land in miramare though and she experienced quite a delay in their response. i think the difference was she bug reported it and i directly IM'd the linden who built it. _____________________

Good advice Jauani. I also bug-reported the Noyo road disappearance. This time I'll IM the original builder and bring it to their attention as well. _____________________

I think they just should even out the level of "linden attention" in every sim, not only in a few selected ones. Ever since I've been here (over a year now) I've seen Lindens have great ideas but they kind of lose steam after a while and go to waste. The roads are no different and now just look awful in a lot of places with pieces missing etc. They're not very good at keeping their focus on things and, after an initial burst of enthusiasm, they kind of forget about them. It happens all too frequently, unfortunately. The problem with something such as roads is that when they go into disrepair they just look ridiculous. I wonder if in some places their own bug with the order of prim-returning has caused the decay? |

I hate to bash, but when the designer is charging L$1900 for one of these, I'd have to say go check Whiptech or Cereal Milk's cars - much cheaper, drive really well and look so much better. The main problem with Cereal Milk's cars is that while technically well done, compared to other car models in SL, they are tiny - I demonstrated to Billy in person - I own 2 of them, and i can't even put them out because they look silly next to other cars. They are well scripted - it is a shame he insists on making them so small. _____________________

Here is an example of the hole in the road. I have reported holes in the road when I have found them too - the other side of the road in Noyo is now a completely different texture - it looks like something was just slapped down to try to fix it, but then they left a giant hole.

Preserve the Uninhibited Free Market
02-15-2005 11:10
While a road system is a great idea, I'm not sure LL should be the ones footing the buildout and maintenance. Instead, the free market should govern whether or not SL needs a highway system.
From my standpoint, the roads serve little purpose. There is no interstate trucking, no commuters, and no necessary reason to travel by road. It appears to be another socialistic project in which resources are flowing with little return of investment. Perhaps LL could privatize the current system and individuals could repair and maintain it? |

I'd take small over the build quality of the merchant who made your car in your first picture, any day of the week I just couldn't bring myself to drive around in something so poorly put together, sorry. I just can't believe you spent L$1900 on it!!! Play money or not, that's way outside the price range of many both technically and visually superior (vastly on the visual mark) cars, and doesn't deserve anything other than hilarity. |

I found a car that Billy approved of: ![]() Only reason Billy likes this car is A. it reminds him of a James bond Car B. Its a decent mock up of a Porche C. He picked it knowing that Cristiano would love it D. It matches his Fez.... Im going for D.... _____________________

Hope he sees this and takes the advice as they are awesome "little" vehicles. I do wish Cornelious would come back. I want a new H2 Hummer as only Corn could do it. Shadow _____________________

As I said, my favorites are from William Beckett's dealership - beautiful prim work, well scripted, and they don't look like little toy cars next to other cars in SL. In a market where people charge $5000 for a texture on an avatar, a $1900 car is in scale to me, I suppose - the two Maserati models I bought yesterday were in that price range too. Do I think people have gotten carried away with pricing? Yeah, there is definitely a greed factor going on, I suppose - but in the end, I rarely buy very much in SL anymore, so I am not too worried about it. I just don't think there is any reason to be so nasty about someone else's work, whether you dislike it or not. _____________________

I just don't think there is any reason to be so nasty about someone else's work, whether you dislike it or not. I've got no problem paying top dollar with something of quality, none at all. Scale is all to do with the market prices in your niche, and his are high in his. As to whether I'm being nasty, just take a look at this person's promo words, he obviously thinks he's the bees-knees of car making in SecondLife. In fact, he's not, it's nothing other than shoddy visually. I presume he knows his market, sees the quality of the other providers yet says his cars are the best in SL and charges high prices for them. I've seen lots of things I've thought aren't done well, and I wouldn't even dream about going out of my way to deride them. But if he produces stuff like this and wants to put himself on a pedestal... |

I wonder if in some places their own bug with the order of prim-returning has caused the decay? I know that in Tenjin, where the road is on a diagonal instead of aligned with The Grid, I returned a section of Linden-built road when I turned my parcel's autoreturn on. The roadway prim's "center" was over a square of my land. I alerted Jill Linden to the situation and we worked out a solution. Those diagonal roadways are more tricky since the property lines are so jagged, so more care needs to be taken when building them at an angle. From what I can see the Linden roads have been built with a variety of Linden-owned land, and prim settings. Conflicts are bound to creep in as different Lindens work on different sections if there is no basic organization to how the roads are built. Ideally, all Linden road land and prims should be owned by the same Linden "road crew" group. All road prims should be tied to Linden-owned land so that residents don't accidentally return sections (this is probably pretty rare). _____________________

I was kind of wondering whether people could create a load of prims, slide them over the Linden Land and cause the road to get returned because of the broken way in which SL returns prims if prim allocation is exceeded - as is happening to other people all over SL. |

I for agree that the road system REALY needs work. I have been through countless sims where roads look like Sim City's after cutting the budget lol. I've also seen many sims with roads on either sides of a lake or river and no bridge. *cough* Poliahu *cough*
I remember a mall I was contracted to build in Kojin, In that sim somehow the Lindens managed to sell off a piece of land underneath the road. I placed a prim there and covered it over in *my* tarmac texture (this was before they released those textures) and finished my construction. Strangely enough I was rated positively a few times for my single prim patch. I have a feeling their best solution would be to do what they did for the Governors Mansion by outsourcing road repair to volunteers who would be willing to help. I for one would also be willing to finish Linden roads that never were finished and or build bridges where they never were placed. I wonder if there's any chance on this ever happening? Maybe I'll put in a call to a linden tonight... ![]() - Sam _____________________

Especially if large parts of the road system get returned. Those messages will get on a Linden's nerves after a while, I'm sure. |

Hope he sees this and takes the advice as they are awesome "little" vehicles. I do wish Cornelious would come back. I want a new H2 Hummer as only Corn could do it. Shadow Yes he is so insistent on making them true to scale in RL that they look sort of odd with the avatars, which have exaggerated scale. And yes, I miss those Cornelious' vehicles too, they were pretty cool. _____________________
