U are sooooooo right Crow!

I brought this up last night as a matter of fact.
Honestly taxes were great, ON OBJECTS that is...
One: No more junk left on our land to clean up;
Two: Back in those days I would simply put away stuff if I needed money and it would magically reappear in my money. Its was in essence my savings account.
I am not into going into that the higher u build the more taxes you pay portion though. But at least taxing objects gives us some money to play with.
Hugs, Misty

But, but, but...
01-12-2005 10:59
If I don't scream and yell about stuff in a panic...what will I do? OMG OMG OMG!!!
I missed the joy of Beta too, heard about it enough to know that I'd rather move forward. I've been "There" and if you truly want an expensive experience, and to see what it's like to no longer get any loot from the host company, have at it.
Last year, they, over There, made some similar moves, took away the EHC (Event Hosting Credit sorta dwell & the 250L credit in one, and not nearly as much money, relatively speaking), and since they never really provided a stipend to everyone (some got a wee bit o'cash, depending upon their membership structure), they took away a lot of tech support and payment for mentors/greeters/livehelp (what it is here).
It seems to me that as these virtual worlds grow, that there are stages of development, economic, social, etc., and that the time comes where the "parents" insist that the "children" get out and go it on their own, a little. However, there is an important difference between this economy and that other one over There, they run on different models. That other one is an "open" economic model, this is "managed". That's exactly what they're doing, managing it.
Or, maybe those that complain about housing prices would enjoy watching the 512 First Land bargain of the century go away, making that little parcel inflate to say maybe a minimum of 10,250 (I'm very roughly translating currencies, the Linden seems to run about 10% of the Tbux, 250L = 1USD vs 1USD = 1787Tbux)? Or that instead of say 50L - 250L for most articles of clothing on the market, that they go UP to say 250 - 500L, with most being about 350 or more? It's all relative.
Oh, but then again, we can rez stuff, for how much? Or how much to upload? You dont' even wanna know how expensive, difficult, TIME consuming that is, nor that you have to wait for a REVIEW board to decide if your candle or buggy or t-shirt is PG, PC and whatever else before you even see it inworld. Oh, and you only get one copy for yourself, the rest you must buy. Of your own product. At wholesale. Uh huh.
Yea, er, I'll suck it up, as a designer I'm gonna have to make some adjustments I'm sure, and as an SL resident, I'm gonna be really happy that things are as they are here, not There. Ok, I'll gripe a bit about the adjustments, but I have seen worse, and I voted w/my little digital feet.
*steps down off soap box, hands megaphone to next avie*

From: Kris Ritter Noffin. Just reminiscing that we've seen these kind of revolts regarding the economic changes a few times before. 'zat ok? Yup, and not to mention. It has relevance because it's funny. And funny = Relevance. If people have any questions as too how one word can equal another, please listen to Mr. Farrakhan's description of the word "Atonement" mms://kroq.wmod.llnwd.net/a168/o1/kbaudio/farrakhan_attonement.asf. Have fun, be happy. The Linden Dollar is about to go up, Alexa. And making your own product will be a lot more fullfilling and fun than taking hand outs. Crow

Bring back taxes? No. I remember those days.
However, seriously, I would like to see the Light Tax come back. That would then force people to intelligently and sparingly use light materia objects, and would allow us all to turn Local Lighting back on again. Right now, you can use SL with Local Lighting on, except maybe at 0.5fps.

From: CrowCatcher Valen That's right, I said it. I myself never though those words would be spoken from my mouth. But if I have to listen to one more person complain about this minimal amount of $L they are going to be losing , I'm gonna explode.
These economic changes are good. It will increase the value of the linden dollar. Basic econ, people.
So I propose we bring back beta taxes, give these new players complaining a run for their money, for real. Then maybe they will have something to complain about.
Until then, suck it up, dump your petition, and actually try making something to feed your SL addiction instead of getting a handout. Who's with me? Flea? Garth? Pit? Bone? Jai? Ramon? All we need are tea crates and signs "BRING BACK TAXES NOW!"
*snickers*

My view on taxes and raising taxes... Whenever members (citizens) start asking for more taxes (or in this case taxes period) they should be made to pay them. I think it is only fair to everyone that the Lindens start a thread called "sign up here to pay taxes". That way those in favor can go and sign up and pay away to their hearts content. The problem is that the ones in favor of paying taxes don't ever want to pay them if no one else has to. Also I have a problem calling them "Taxes". I mean what do we get out of these taxes? Taxes generally go to pay for something. What you are talking about is a "fee" where I get nothing for my money. I already pay a fee to every month. If the problem is lag or trying to influence people to not use objects that create lag why not be more creative in dealing with this issue then just hitting "everyone" in the wallet? If the Lindens really thought it was a problem they could have a bandwidth limit on small local areas. Not only would prims be counted but thier bandwidth useage would be too. We would have a max bandwidth useage as well as the max prim drop per area of land. So in closing I am in favor of all those in favor wanting taxes having to pay them and the rest of us not having to.

Why on earth would anyone ever really want taxes back? They were just brutal on creativity.
Taxes today would kill private sims off.
