False Suspensions

I have an issue.. earlier before the christmas holiday I was working in cordova.
All of the sudden I was orbited until I crashed. twice! I sent a abuse report about the two people that were doing this. I told them to stop, and told them I already sent one about them. After hearing this, they told me they will send abuse reports on me for "Using a weapon in the sandbox" I didnt even have any weapons attached! I was though, working on my weapon vendor, but that was all I was doing.

I told a linden about this and they said "Im sure you have nothing to worry about."

now today, I logged on to SL and whatcha know, I was suspended. I looked in my inbox of my email and I was suspended for 14 DAYS. I didnt even do anything!!

How do you think how well the abuse report "investigations" are handled? I know that there are probably 100s of them a day, but I didnt do anything to earn this suspension. I was suspended before for a wrongful claim when someone shot someone with my weapon that was next to me. They told me "I already reported you!" I was suspended... hmmm. When I was suspended, I sent them a email to the [email]abuse-manager@secondlife.com[/email] address included in the message. but NO ONE REPLIED, even after I got back from the suspension (about 7 days)


Has this happend to anyone before?
Can someone tell me what kind of logs are viewed when looking over an abuse report?
Or do they even look at logs?
If a new player doesnt like how someone looks or talks, could they just simply send an abuse report that they were shot by that person and have them warned / suspended?
How well are the reports investigated?

Im sorry that this seems odd. But I just want to get some answers before I go crazy

Yeah, this suspension nightmare is really getting out of control. Without due process, banning should be a very rare occurrence, indeed.

I hope I get a linden to answer some of these if not all (that would be nice) questions.

I have heard about this happening to many people. Seems the Lindens just arbitrarily ban people at random. I guess if you number comes up you get banned. I'd like to know the process also.

I have no idea if it would help anything, but I plan on writing an email to [email]support@secondlife.com[/email] and see if they can supply any answers. Maybe, if everyone (or at least a buch of people) email them also we can get them to answer the questions that seem to be on all our minds. I don't see why they would want to hide the process, unless of course it is truly random and there is no actual process.

With that in mind, perhaps a mass emailing to support will result in some answers. I'm willing to give it a try.

the [email]abuse-manager@secondlife.com[/email] (I think it is, or lindenlab.com) for sure is unmoderated but wih a simple autoreply for comfort. I sent the appeal letter to that address as stated on the reson for suspension letter. but never recieved the answer(putting that in perpective, Isent that email roughly 6 months ago!)

not yet, but I sent them an email, If I dont get a reply from it, Ill give them a call.

I don't think I've ever recieved any notification other than the initial form letter for any abuse report I've filed or any bug reports I've done. They just seem to go into limbo.

I've wondered about these same things myself. I abuse reported two clowns for griefing at the winter event, and in retaliation they told me they were going to abuse report me as well, for some made up reason. I got to thinking, if LL doesn't really investigate, would I end up suspended for rightfully abuse reporting someone?? Wish they were more forthcoming on such info.

I've wrote abuse manager 2 times on 2 different occurances... problems with logging in and one banning. NEVER a respone...even after the 2 week ban was lifted... and I wasn't able to log in for ONE MONTH due to some error, and never get responses. Customer Services is for the birds in SL. We all just suck it up and move on.

enough is enoough though,. Everyone in sl gave it a year in a half for some sort of system to be initiated..
At the state right now, an account can log in, and be hired as a hitman. Where people privatly pay these 'hitmen' to abuse report users for false statements to get the temp. banned from sl.

That is what im trying to get accross to LL, not just to lift my suspension, but to also put some sort of organized system in place so this can stop happening

I've heard a few cases about this before, and I'm not on the forums very much so it's probably more prevalent than I know, but sending abuse reports actually seems to be a popular way to grief people these days. Why bother bumping them eight sims away when you can get them suspended for 14 days?

But also in these stories, I usually read that they told the person about the abuse report and then were reported in return. My only recommendation is not to neg-rate anyone, and never to tell them if you send an abuse report. Either way, they might report you back and you could get suspended or banned.

We are shit out of luck on THIS issue. Till the Lindens actually grow a pair, stop listening to their uberpoliticallycorrectbraindead lawyers, and actually start telling us why we get banned instead of tossing us little hints this will NEVER be resolved.

I also think that this will become the new form of griefing.
If you report an enemy, they are suspended / warned the next day.
The only problem is, they can easily report you for something stupid when they get back.

Could some griefer say some major event holder is underage? It would be simple to come back though, just a proof that they are above 18. What if they said that this event holder was pushing them offworld every time the reporter gets near the event holder?

What if you could report someone for being "bumped" and they get suspended. When Im flying in a sandbox or so, I sometime accidently bump someone. Just a little. And sometimes it shows on my screen that they "bumped" me. There is proof right there.

Linden Labs should have some way to review chat logs or some type of evidence as to provide reason for banning someone.

I am simply blown away after reading this thread in it's entirety.

Wow this is really getting rediculous. If we heard the whole story.
