Hello,

Some of you might remember the RPG game I build (with help of Pirate Cotton and Darkwood community).
I was working on the second version and I even deleted the first version of the game when I couldn't play SL anymore for a while. But I'm back now and I think it's time to start setting up a demo version of DarkLife II which is really mostly done now :)
Don't know if DarkWood cummunity is still interested (after I left so suddenly)?
DarkLife 2 has really cool new features like magic, team-play and later on even PvP fighting (for those who choose for it).
I still have all the designs that I got from diffrent people so I can start building soon (I do have to leave for 1 week this saterday but after that I have plenty of time)
Anyway let me know if you (or your community) is interested in hosting a real Massive Multiplyer Role Playing Game in secondlife on your land!!! I can give a demo if needed :)

Sorry Mark, you're about a month too late for us. We finally divided up the land amongst some new residents. I am glad to see you back, though!

Hope you find a home for this, DarkLife is an awsome project that shows the possibilities of SL. :)

Look forward to seeing it come back again.

I'd give you land if I could. If I win the Vive contest, you can use my land, perhaps.

Hi there! I'm back to! You can't escape us you buggers :D

Anyway, we're going to look for a large quiet plot of land somewhere. Money shouldn't be a problem, space and a nice theme and quiet (script wise and poly wise) bit of land is. Damn, I'm almost tempted to thinka bout our own island! Hell, not that rich :)

Anyway, we'll get some technology up and running and then we'll look for a place to live. If anyone has any proposals let me know, I'm sure the dwell alone would make it very very very good for anyone with a large hunk of uninteresting land!

Also, if you've animated, contact us in game.

Pirate Cotton, arr!

I've been flying around and I've seen a lot of great bulidings/places that would be great for darklife. So if you own that huge castle or creepy semetary that I have seen somewhere please contact me. If you host DarkLife it doesn't mean you have to give up what you made, I will just put monsters on your land/buildings that will probably give you a lot of dwell.
Or if you own a shop with weapons etc. it would be perfect for a darklife shop...
Maybe I should contact Darkwood players anyway to see if they're individually interested in hosting a part of DarkLife. Anyway I'll first wait if this thread will get some response!

In Epimetheus there are 2 pretty nice size chunks of land by my house for sale.

It is near the telehub, near a road but not close enough to detract from the atmosphere.

I'm building my new mall in the sky... so there's not much going to be at ground level... except my Stonehenge build... (which I promise to have back in place in time for Hallowe'en)... It's about 20,000 sq.m of Mocha, including a lake, and next to Aurican's pyramid. Contact me if you want to discuss it...

Also as an option, I have Tir na Nog which is 8130m or so of celtic/fantasy based build in Callisto, which is generally lag free, PG, out in the country and right on the edge of the world. It's already set as a fantasy genre area. IM me in-world if interested.

Yeah indeed lots of options :) the most interesting coming from Sensual Casanova who might provide us with a complete Island :)
However that does not mean we shouldn't use the other pieces of land offered. Actually it would be a good thing to have diffrent locations for the game (makes more sense) for example the volcano on Krittania which is offered could be a perfect place for fire-based monsters.
And celtic/fantasy city would be a good place for weapon shops etc.
Also I am going to ask the rivendell people if they can host some sort of elfish shops, where you can buy magical items or maybe even go to shops where you can use items you find in monsters to create special potions or weapons :) That way we can actually make your cool theme-based projects interactive and 'usefull'. I really like that idea and I think it has great potential... I've seen so many beautifull theme's and castles fortress etc. and I really think it's a shame you can't actually 'do' something there. I really hope DarkLife can change that :)
Can't wait to set it all up :) too bad I'm gone next week :S

Maybe you could make it so that you would get a fire sword at the volcano that could be used to more easily slay the ice monsters in the snowy sims, etc =)

I was thinking the same when Mark was listing off the places.

How cool would it be to have a set of different but interconnected scenarios on different sims, all played using your progressive stats and accumulated equipment and treasure?

Well it's really nice that you think that is a good idea, because that was exactly my idea and I also implemented it...
there are 5 elementals
fire-water
earth-wind
darness

so with fire you can slay water monsters more easily etc.

Another idea that I had was to let fire monsters drop off fire-ores... you can then go to special shop... pick a weapon you own... and then the smith will tell you how many (fire/water/etc.) orbs you need to turn that weapon into a fire-waepon..
so you put the orbs and the weapon on a plate... give the L$ and gold that's needed... then the weapon and orbs disappear and you'll get a elemental version of that weapon :)

ofcourse some weapons can not be turned into elemental version... you'll have to do a quest in the volcano to aquire the fire version of that weapon (or something like that ;)

and for the darkness elemental... that's a suprise, which I haven't figured out exactly what... but it's there for very advanced players so I can create a whole new level of playing much later :)

oh and in reply to this:

"How cool would it be to have a set of different but interconnected scenarios on different sims, all played using your progressive stats and accumulated equipment and treasure?"

well you obviously haven't played DarkLife I because your stats are kept in your backpack and your equipment are just object you can take anywhere... so basically I don't have to change anything to make it work across sims :)

yeah I know - to both parts - and I did play. often :)

I was just lamenting that yes, it would be very cool to have it extended across a network of sims where the stories were interwoven, though not necessarily played in any order or whatever. Unfortunately when I make short posts I tend not to make myself very clear, which is why most of my posts are long and rambling, I guess. :p

Sounds great, and if you do it, I look forward to playing again :)

Awesome to hear. Is there gonna be a "last boss" too? :D This is one of those times when a "party mode" for SL would be cool, especially if the adventure is large and spanning quite a bit of terrain.

Hehe well one last boss.. I don't know
after the last boss... what keeps me from creating an even stronger 'last boss' ???
hehe I guess when all is running I can make some realy huge monsters... but as soon as some players have beat it I should make an even stronger one, don't you think??

and yes there is also a party mode... well it's a little more limited then I was going for at first, but some things just CAN't be done with LSL... however you can choose 2 people you like to share with (gold you find and EXP you gain)... and you can target a friend and use potions and friendly magic (light magic I called it) on him/her.

So that way you can make a group of 3 people, each of them sharing with the other two :)

I was thinking if it would be possible to make group quest that you can't do alone... and I guess there are possibilities :) but that's for later...

Welcome back Mark and Pirate!! I was just starting to get into Darklife when my life (and it seems yours too) made it impossible for a bit. So excited to see you back and can't wait to see Darklife up again! I see so many offering help with land. I can't do so personally, but if you are looking to expand this across many sims, you may also want to contact Briana Dawson. Not sure if she is interested, but I personally love a lot of the ideas presented in this thread and it could make for a great adventure. Either way, I look forward to playing when you guys are back up and running! :)

I missed DarkLife 1, but now own part of the parcel it was on. I have built an arena there and would love to host some DarkLife battles if such a thing can be accomplished technically.

Also, I'm working on a "Secret" lab that might be a good location for an adventure.

It'd be great if you worked out some system of teleporting between spots.

Yes I haven't implemented it yet, but PvP fights are coming 100% for sure :) so an arena would be great!!! we could host events like

1 on 1
2 on 2
all VS. monster
all VS. avatar-played monster

all with prices like L$, DarkLife gold and DarkLife items :)

I have visions about this being really cool :) too bad I still have to write the PvP code, but I kept in mind that I had to write it someday so the rest of the code is just waiting for the PvP code :P just have to do it :(

Good to hear all the feedback!

Here are a few things I want to make clear now, however, so people don't get upset with us. I hate it when Mark comes to me crying. Distracts me from the lovemaking.

1) There's only two of us working on this thing right now and I think Mark and I like it that way because we never argue :) ..He's the code brains, i'm the talking a load of rubbish brains and we fit together nicely.

2) The offers for all sorts of help and land are fantastic! But we can physically only get through a set ammount of stuff and so please don't be offended if you've offered us a super deal and we forget to get back to you and/or don't look into it enough. Best to assume right from the start that we're not very clever and keep pestering us till we tell you where to go :D

3) We remain very interested in people making monsters, items, armor, animations, effects.. etc for us and will happily pay money for good work. We need to completely own it if you give it to us for code security reasons so keep this in mind! We should set up a submissions box somewhere.. Or something. Also, we had previously dealt with people who were creating their own shops to sell DL items. This is still a possibility. Keep in mind that we will need to own and place the master items (even if you've made them), again, for code security, and we'll be setting the RPG cost and requirements for it. There was with all our items a nominal $L cost as well as an in-game gold cost and we remain happy to look at revenue splits for partners in this kind of arrangement.

4) While it would be nice to integrate with a bunch of other people's code and ideas this is really tricky as anything we open up can lead to people exploiting the game. If you want to work with us on ideas don't expect anything back in the way of code and whatnot.. and please remember it's only one guy doing the code work and he's particular and so if Mark turns you down, don't take it personally, he is probably too busy, already got something in the works etc, etc.

5) My stupid broadband account in NZ has data limits (I might be able to change this soon) and it's also likely to be quite slow. This means I miss chat and messages, I don't like to travel (load megs of stuff) and I'm generally grumpy when I'm logged in :D ..don't take it personally :D

.. ok disclaimers done :D
Yes, I've seen the arena, it's great! I think we could have a lot of fun with events in the arena once PvP is made. The other world areas mentioned also offer us lots of opportunities too!

We'll probably set up in one place first I imagine and make sure everything is running before exporting the franchise. You'll have to be patient with us until things are up and running. If you want to speed this up make some nice monsters that aren't too big and too poly/texture intensive and throw them our way. We'll set up a base site like last time and tell you all where it is once things are up and running.

Oh! Also, it would be nice to have a web site everntually and maybe someone to run it. We'll consider this closer to launch but if anyone fancies that stuff and has the skills and setup to do it let me know some time.

Finally, the best way to contribute is to take part. Hang around the (eventual) base camp, chat to us, test things, get to know us! We like people we like :)
