Great Builds that are Ignored

We all know that there are great builds in Sl that are totally overlooked for a variety of reasons. No club, no sex, no bingo...could be anything. For example, I have been working so hard on my build on Gypsy Moon for months now. The idea was that it is a priates treasure hunt adventure where the pirates crashed on the rocks on Gypsy Moon and were shipwrecked, stranded with a ship full of treasures they looted from around the world. They hid the treasures on the island and to protect the loot they put booby traps everywhere. Over time the pirates died off leaving the treasure behind along with the booby traps.

The sim was unsafe, no fly and no outside scripts. The iidea was for visitors to the sim to find the treasure without dying because once you died you lost it all. A pirate's treasure hunt adventure game.

I have put my heart into Gypsy Moon and it is totally ignored. People visit randomly, or came to see the sex balls after that post was made (where are the sex balls dude?) and would tell me how they loved the build and then not rate it. It's not that I wanted a rating for ratings sake. its the point that it seems there no interest in builds that are not a club or a mall really. I am totally discouraged and have just about abandoned my project.

There are some builds that get a lot of attention because of the popularity of the creator. There are other builds that get the attention because of the commercial aspect such as a great shopping area, or fun club. So lets give some attention to the builds that are great but ignored and overlooked!

Here is a shameful self serving plug for Gypsy Moon! Come take a look at the underground maze, the caves, the waterfalls and ride pegasus down snow mountain! Be sure to walk across the bridges and explore the hull of the shipwreck!

Now, tell us about your overlooked build or one built by another that you love! Let us create the picks list here.

I keep meaning to get by there and really check it out....Unfortunately if you want to be seen by the masses you have to advertise the hell out of it.

I'll be by tonight...maybe I'll wear my money tree on my head and hit the welcome area first....kinda like the pied piper...and drag all the newbies with me to your place :D

I have visited your sim more than once, and no, not for the balls. Had I known there was a treasure hunt, I would have gone looking. Now I know, I'll be back (as someone famous said) :) I thought the sim was beautiful but did not rate it because I can no longer to afford to rate anyone. A sad result from the changes made by LL.

Actually i have a little project, even if until it has gone very slowly because of lack of time... A magazine on SL landmarks. Nothing costly (in fact its meant to be free) but something that would show off ten-twelve of the best (in the eye of the writer of course) builds in SL a month. Since my interest in RL architecturethis is an idea that roamed my head from the start.
If anyone is willing to help in this (exploring and writing articles) send me an IM, the only needed skill are an half decent grammar, decent social skills (to interview the builder) and the ability to take piuctures and put them in notecards (since the mag will be completely notecard written).
PS: of course this is a totally non profit initiative, so don't expect to be payied :P

I think it would help if there were a listing of private islands and what their deal is. I keep a map of SL and I often don't notice when islands appear, disappear, move or change. Unlike the mainland, you're not going to happen to fly over an island sim and notice something cool. And it's always a lottery teleporting to an island - you don't even know if you'll be welcome, or if anything will be there. Anyway, I think it's a general problem for islands.

In the meantime, I wonder if having some sort of event on the island periodically would generate some word of mouth.

Anything by Juro Kothari, Jai Nomad, Aimee Weber and Lordfly Digeridoo deserve more scrutiny and praise, for sure. Also, Barnesworth Anubis has been impressing me as of late, in addition to Ingrid Ingersol's work.

Gypsy Moon - Absolutely beautiful. Almost as beautiful as the woman who built it. She terraformed the entire sim, and built 98% of everything there. One woman's dream, one woman's work. Stunningly beautiful. Do, check it out. The entire aspect of the Pirate Adventure is not completed yet, but the build is beautiful. I give it two thumbs and two big toes up! :D

I loved Gypsy Moon! I thought it looked AMAZING. I kind of knew that it was meant to be a treasure hunt, but I didn't know how to go about it.

Maybe you should have a notecard that pops up every time someone visits the island, outlining why Gypsy Moon was made, what happened, and hints on what you'll find if you go looking for them.

Gypsy Moon also takes some time to rez due to the numerous amount of objects on the island, so it can be tough to actually "hunt" for stuff when you're still waiting for them to show up.

I agree, publicize it, and maybe have a few events. I don't think you ought to pay anyone if they win, but that's your choice ;)

Best of luck, and if you still don't want to develop it anymore, it's beautiful as it is :)

Katy, I've been to gypsy moon and i thought it was lovely. I would have rated it but I'd already filled you up with pos rates :p

For a rundown on places to visit Cardroe, you could do a lot worse than visiting Higbee Protagnist's very very super SL Parks and Rec Registry. You can do it three ways:

- Visit his island sim and look at the Interactive map
- visit the website
- Click on one of the many mushroom shaped kiosks scattered round SL. I host one at Gardens in Albion!

see how I snuck that plug in there? :p

Thanks! I need to work on my seams though. I'm just starting to use the numbers because Barnesworth keeps yelling at me about it. I like making little prefabs, it's fun.

I'd love to see a web page full of interesting SL builds. I thought about putting one together, I might still, unless there's one out there that I don't know about?

Well, I have a website on which I have a few SL related galleries, and one focuses on builds and locations. I'd be happy to take submissions (being as I'm pretty reclusive :))

And for a self plug, and since I didnt actually include my own stuff in it, I have a seperate gallery for Krittannia:

This is great, why isn't this listed on the fan sites area of the Second Life site main page? I think it should be. I have more pics for you, I'll dump them in your inventory. Just random builds I stumbled accross while exploring mostly.

Pepp's Island of Sheep in Bolinas is a nice place to hang out.
I like the way Cua and Drift redid their Clovers area in Clyde. It's a nice place to wander around.
Nephalaine's (forgive misspelling) shop area is a wonderful area to explore - the buildings keep getting more interesting and wonderful.
Aces building is really cool.

Cua and Drift did an amazing job in Clyde. It's so beautiful there. Lots of trees and hills and water and walking paths through the woods. It's very easy to move through as well.

Okee, another shameless plug.

Actually, two, but both are on-topic:

First, an idea for an interactive map on an LL-run website that grows along with the world. It's updated every 24-hours to show build density, and every sim is linked to a wiki-style blog page where any resident (of that sim) may post entries, limited to once per day. Residents could toot their own trumpets and post photos of their 'hoods, and say what's going on in their locality. The best-written or most interesting blogs will begin to attract their own attention as people browse the map/blogs. Oh, and people should have an easy way of meta-tagging their neighborhood's content, so that browsing readers can easily search for specific types of merchandise, say "male clothing / goth" or "Textures" or "Vehicles / automotive", or for builds, "Art exhibits / postmodern / Tom Arnold" or "Architectural landmark / Church".
:)

Also, the Kazenojin Tower in Gray. I'm sure most of the oldbies know this structure well, but it's an amazing build and lots of newer players have never even seen it, much less explored it. There should be events, or things going on there. If you've never seen it, go visit Gray. Turn your draw distance up a bit, and look for the Tower. Um, I promise you can't miss it, even though it doesn't have flashing textures.

Yay, there is! Read about it a couple of days ago...

http://www.gabrielguyer.com/slparksandrec/

The SL Parks and Recreation website is trying to collect all the pretty builds, and the pretty interesting builds...I'm using it to rekindle my love of what SL can be...there are some amazing creations out there. And Gypsy Moon is listed!!!

Gypsy Moon is wonderful! A great place to explore and relax and die! (watch out for that lava hottub!)

Also, a much older build, The Olive Pit, in Olive (of course) is a very overlooked build that is wonderful and fun to explore. It's one of the sites on my newbie sightseeing tours.

But I do come across some real gems here and there in my wanderings. There was this egyptian build, out over some water, that was almost perfect. Lots of columns, like a temple. Wish i could remember who built it...

Gypsy Moon looks fabulous. I rated Katy a long time ago, back in the Mauve Falls days.

Also Crescent Moon Museum holds many artwork made by various residents. I have some sculptures up there once in a while too. SimQuest has the Gravity Space Station, but I wonder if the people who've been to the club have also checked out the Art Gallery. That place makes my brain hum.

The City is underrated. Aces' Head Shop, Marcos' ARMORD, and many other builds, even the ones deemed abandoned all appeal to me. I walk through the city sims and find something new to look at every time I visit.

I also like flying around Aimee Weber's Manhattan build ... in Hawthorne it is, me thinks? And I like visiting Clyde. I also fly from Indigo to Chartruese. I love the changes Umber has made. Some people just go there for the clothes. I like to fly around and check out what new stuff the residents there have built.

I also like going to Kymeera, an island sim. I bought my precious waterfall thingy there. I haven't been back since the owners changed things up though. Talen's got an awesome pub in Rose. I go there when he's not around. :p And Kris Ritter's Krittianna! Says alot about a build when I'm too scared to wander into the Hell portion alone. :p

And a plot in Uba ... gots some sculptures too. As well as my place in Butsu. :o ACK! Shameless plug! I feel so awkward now. LOL :p I don't expect they'll generate any traffic. But I'm okay with or without it. :D
