My first night in SL, someone I didn't know claimed I was an alt of someone else. My second night in SL, someone else I didn't know claimed I was an alt of someone else. By my third night in SL, I was having a virtual identity crisis.
I got better. I am no alt, I have no alts, all I am and have is me. My feeling is that we go all one way or all the other in SL. Either we have no alts and can make no alts, or we have the ability to "alt" ourselves whenever we like, ingame. No permanent names, no permanent "features", no permanent identities, beyond what is known only to the Lindens for billing and "ownership" purposes. This half-and-half stuff is like having one foot in the real world and one foot in a virtual world.  |

I have an alt (essentially so that hubby and I can form a group for land editing and so I can get work done in SL when I really need to).
I have mistakenly posted a few times when I was logged in as her because I forgot who I was logged in as. Also, once my husband logged in as me to transfer funds and ended up in the forums and felt compelled to respond to a post with a sexually explicit comment that could only have come from a male. I made him log back in as himself and post that he'd made the comment. . _____________________

LL is very generous in that regard, like I said, if it was my show - I'd suspend them all. Yup. If two people are indeed "sharing" a credit card in this way, they obviously know one another. If person #2 gets banned because person #1 did something stupid to get them both banned--isn't it less likely that you'll see the same behavior out of person #1 again? Therefore, who cares, hang them all. _____________________
BTW
WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. I posted with my alt. But it was a mistake on my part. I had previously logged in to tier down my alt account and went to the forums not thinking I'd be posting as my alt. Didn't bother to correct it. I did that too. If you log into the forums with an alt, then log into SL with your main account, its easy to forget that you are still logged into the forums with an alt. The original reason I created an alt was to test my creations. Especially when I first started scripting, I needed to experiment with how things behave after somebody else buys them from me. More recently I experimented with "sell objects with land" by trading between alts. I also created an alt for a friend, who logged in only once and was turned off because she was "hit on" (her words) relentlessly in the welcome area when she first arrived, and now she's convinced that SL is nothing but a juvenile chatline for flirting. Luckily she never discovered the virtual sex. She didn't want to play, so I started using that account as an alt too. Because the character was female, I got a completely different reaction from other players. (Default avatar, default clothing, and picked up appearance ratings from dudes in love. What a hoot!) Then I accidentally posted in the forums for that account and signed it "Buster". Oops. Needless to say that alt doesn't flirt with boys anymore. But she does shop for clothing. I keep telling myself that isn't perverted. Group owned land gets a 10% bonus, so I created a two alts and made a group and I use that group to hold land. Perfectly legal, and pretty much all the land barons do exactly that. (Although I am not a land baron.) Buster |
