Hello everyone, just wondering what everyones system is made up of. Oh ya and what type of processor you prefer. I prefer the AMD Athlon 64 bit over all others. I've got an AMD Athlon 1.4 mhz(AMD usually clock at lower speed than what they say so about 1.33mhz processing speed.) with 768 MB RAM, im running off an Ansylum Geforce FX 5200 256MB agp card. 1 20 gig and a 120 gig hard drive. So about 122 gigs of ram. Up graded sound card. Let me know what you guys got. Thats the innards of my machine. Im trying to get dual socket a mother board. run two athlon 2200 MP oooooo man that would be sweet!!!!

Two boxes running SL:

P4 2.8 (533mhz)
1 gb pc3200
160gb 7200 rpm ata 133
GeForce 4 4200 128mb

P4 2.4 (533mhz)
1 gb pc 2700
160 gb 7200 rpm ata 133
ATI 9800 Pro 128mb

Still deciding whether to upgrade the 2.4 to a Socket 478 p4 in the 3ghz range or a socket 775, which would mean getting a new motherboard.

Both run great at up to 160-192 draw distance, beyond that it gets a little choppy depending on the complexity of the builds around us.

Welcome to SL.

I haven't responded to one of these in a while, so why not:

Mobo: Asus K8V-SE Deluxe
CPU: AMD 64 3400+ (2.2Ghz)
Ram: 1 GB Corsair Twin-X Matched Modules
Video: Nvidia GeForce FX 5950 Ultra 256MB
Monitor: NEC Multisync LCD 1760NX (yes, I'd like a 19....oh well. heh.)
CDBurner: Sony DVD RW DRU-530A (Older model, but works well.)
Sound: Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS (I hate embedded sound on motherboards still.)
Speakers: Klipsch THX Series, Dual Fire Bass Module (Had this a while, still kicks ass.)
Storage: SATA Raid-5 - 702GB Array (Raid5 redundancy after I messed up using Raid0 and lost a drive, doh.)
Controller Card: Adaptec 2410SA 4-Port Controller 64MB (3Ware also makes good controllers as well.)
Drives: 4 x 250GB SATA Ultra 7200rpm 8MB Cache (Full 10k rpm SCSI drives are too damn hot for me, and too expensive.)
Network: Marvell Yukon Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-T, Copper (Mobo feature)
Don't have a gigabit network to really use that with though, so defaults to 100Mbit like most things.
Mouse: Logitech MX700 Wireless (The higher series is good, but I love this mouse.)
Case: Yeong Yang YY-0221 Cube Custom modded, Black enamel matte finish.
Fans: 4 x 120mm (4 inch) main fans, 3 x 80mm fans for drives and cpu cooling, thermaltake 3-fin main CPU fan for the heavy lifting. I love this case, always use my newest hardware in here.
Supply: I forget, but I believe its a Antec Blue-LED CoolCase 480w supply.

I tend to upgrade once a year, so some parts lag in features until I refresh.

I'm on a customized HP ZD-7000 laptop. Love it. A LOT. I sometimes kiss it before bed.

specs:
3.2 ghz hyperthreaded P4
1.25 Gigs ddr/pc3200 RAM
80 gig 7200 rpm laptop drive
nvidia 5700 go 128 megs
1680x1050 pixel "bright view" screen (the most beautiful screen I've EVER seen CRT, LCD or otherwise)

All the other standard junk... DVDRW/802.11A+G/etc.

I love the thing so much I recommended it to Garth and Pituca, who got one, and love it for SL. Cristiano recently upgraded his old lappy to this as well and is in love with it (don't tell Taeja! <grin>;). If you're got the cash to drop - or are lucky like me and have work say, "Well, you've been using your own laptop for 3 years for us, why don't we buy you a new one on us?" - get this machine. :-)

Regards,

-Flip

My fastest SL machine:

Asus A7N8XE Deluxe
AMD Athlon XP 2700 (2.16ghz)
1 GB DDR ram
Nvidia GeForce FX 5700 Ultra (256mb)
80 gig 7200 rpm HD
40 gig 7200 rpm HD
60 gig 7200 rpm HD (external firewire)
30 gig 7200 rpm HD (external firewire)
Sony DVD RW DRU-500 (even older than Maxx's)
NEC DVD RW ND-2510A (dual layer burner)
Antec PS (don't remember model number), 480w

I'm not going into everything, because this machine is basically a homemade kludge. I'll add that this monster runs with 5 extra cooling fans. I'm not even going to get started listing specs on my 2 other SL machines. :D

The system I play SL most on:

Pentium 4 - 3.2 ghz
2 GB pc2700 RAM
160 GB SATA Hard Drive
GeForce 6800 Video Card
OnBoard Sound Card (thinking about upgrading that)

I use this system almost exclusively for SL so there isn't much of anything else installed on it. It runs SL very well.

P4 2.8ghz
80gb HD
Partitioned 160 HD
5.1 surround sound. Woo!
1280mb RAM
And, my pride and joy:
GeForce 6800 GT 128mb... dual-chipped!
Kinda overkill for something like SL, but it runs DooM3 like a charm.

AMD 2600+
1 gig ram
80 gig hard drive
Nvidia TI4200
1500 down 900 up dsl connection

The ti4200 doesn't have long to live. As soon as they release the 6600 in agp, which the rumour is shall be soon, I'm getting one.

I am currently running An AMD Athlon XP 2500M over clocked to 3.1Ghz with a really good air system :) Gotta love the Zalman Flower Heatsynch and vantec tornados :) ITs on an MSI KT6-DELTA motherboard, (mobo has been nothing but problems since day 1), with 1 GB of PC3200 DDR, Kingston Value, with cooling mods, and a voltmod to fix the high latency....

On top of that I run a Sapphire Radeon 9600XT 256MB, with a Zalman Heat Pipe (OC-1 if I remember the model right) as well as the 90mm Optional fan. That sits next to the Sound Blaster Audigy X-Gamer (Yea, 2 negatives there, its a creative and old, but works great). Combined with that is the Creative Inspire 5300 5.1 Surround Sound system. Its all in a custom built case, with a pretty purple cold cathode and a 570W power supply. Runs around 49 - 55C.

The messed up thing, is that I can get around 75 FPS while playing high end games like Half-Life 2 with Anti Aliasing and Antiscopic Filtering maxed out....yet I get ~15 FPS in SL. I've tried various tweaks and driver changes...Meanwhile, my old PNY TNT2 Vanta 32MB 4X AGP, gets 45 FPS in Second Life. Its mind boggling to see that kind of a difference. Too lazy to keep switching cards when I want to play SL tho, so I guess I'll suffer.

I think the agp version is out, but it seems to be very rare. I had thought about picking up one of those myself, but I might just wait a few months, move up to an Athlon 64, and get the PCI Express version.

Thanks for the info, but I don't believe the plain old 6600 is out yet. The 6600 GT is out in agp but that is more than I want to spend. I just saw an article published a couple of days ago saying the plain 6600 should be here soon.
