And damn, if you're already coding the physical dice, I guess I can stop working on my dice roll generator. :P If you can, make as many as you can (especially any that spawn) TempOnRez. Less used prims, and if any get away...

I'm going to continue working on working on my MUSH-to-LSL port of dice rolling code simply because I need the LSL practice, and I'm used to typing '+roll 2d20+4' but the physical dice sound cool, too!

So who can be the first to come up with the answer to "minimum number of prims to create a d20 - must be physical so no intersecting prims!" :)

Group created! Who wants in?

I'm in!

Ursa had a sweet idea. Rotating meetings, so everyone gets a bit of Mr. Dwellnor.

I have space for game sessions too!

I may be making my character as an SL AV, though....

Ach, nevermind - we're playing Al Qadim and I'm a jackal-headed Kheri. No way am I going to be able to make a head that looks even slightly realistic!

ive already got physical d6's working, toss from your hand, any number you specify.

ill probably be running HARP or RM for those who care about the rules.

Focus will be on roleplay and adventure, not rules and making character more powerful. Life can be just as exciting at level 1 as at level 20.

More format info to come, but scripting the d10's

also, SL lets you hand out nifty notecards and textures and play sounds if you want :) to enhance the over the table play.
Nice - sounds like the kind of game I prefer to play (roleplay & adventure more than overly rules / stat-oriented). I don't know what HARP and RM stand for though - could you clarify?

Al-Qadim is a campaign setting for pen & paper D&D, an arabian setting. I think she is just refering to the MUSH game she is involved with.

HARP = High Adventure Role Play, the new system from Iron Crown Enterprises. It won silver for best non D20 game at Gencon 2004. www.ironcrown.com for more info. The basic book in PDF format is only 10.00, and you can get all 4 books in pdf for 38.00 so the price is right.

RM = Rolemaster, ICE's predecessor to HARP. More detailed, more rules, but that is handled nicely these days by computers.

the d6 i have are physical objects, you just /1 t # where # is the number of dice you want, as I add more, ill changed that to /1 #d# for the standard 2d6, 1d4, etc.

Non D20? o.O I have a hard enough time wrapping my head around World of Darkness. It's a Dungeons and Dragons group. Sure, I suppose we could include all rulesets and such into the group, but... well... I'm here to play D&D!

3.5e rules. Forgotten Realms, Eberron, or homebrew.

You can download the D20 D&D rules for FREE (and legally) from here.

You can also get a FREE and ORGANIZED PDF file of the same info here.

I'd highly recommend the second link. It's much better organizationally, and reads like a much drier version of the PHB and DMG merged together. Sure, the ACTUAL PHB and DMG might be better, but you're getting it for free, and it's bloody good for a free thing!

I coded HCR for NWN (google archaegeo or HCR and NWN) so im very familiar with 3ed DnD, but when i run adventures, i run them for the purpose of the roleplay, not the system its based on.

Anyway, enjoy, im busying making dungeon cooridor placeholders for gameplay assist and the d4 and d10

Ill start a new thread for my group, or jsut make it a part of Ancient Earth forum, which fits anyway, nice sounding campaign.

Al Qadim is a D&D v2 campaign setting based on an Arabian feel. Various people have made online materials available to run the same setting in v3/v3.5

A Kheri is one of those Egyptian creatures with the body of a human, and the head of a cat/falcon/jackal/ibis

Here's my (deceased) elder brother summoning an effreti if anyone feels like offering me Avatar help!

That's an awesome skit, and the Summoner video sync'ed to it had me cracking up so loud it would have busted a few cartonfulls of eggs had I been near that department of my local grocery store. :)

Posting here to keep track of the thread... Veteran D&D player here of 20+ years...

I'd love to see D&D-type stuff in here, but as for my personal involvement, I dunno how much time I could commit to a campeign :( Too much other stuff on my plate at the moment!

I still play offline every Sunday, got me a Human Level 2 Sorcerer/2 Fighter/2 Dragon Disciple (3rd Edition rules), unbelieveably enough after all my years of playing, this is my highest level character LOL probably because we switched campeigns so often, or switched to Traveller every 6 months or so...

Korg's talk of programming back in the day reminds me of the D&D Character generator I made back on my Commodore 64 woohoo!!! I did eventually port it over to QBasic but god knows where it is now! :D

Ok, we still don't have a group forum, so we're going to have to use this thread for now.

Anyone wanna DM? Your choice of campaign setting, as long as it's D&D!

Lisse, you mentioned porting your dice rolling script over. Wanna donate it to the cause? I started my own version, but was quickly distracted by small shiny objects, wisps, and uber-streaming goodness.

Archaegeo, you had d6s, were working on d10s, ever get as far as physical d20s?

Who's place are we going to game at first?

And once we have a DM, we should probably try to roll up characters and post their backstories/stats/whatnot in here, or in the forum once we have one.

i might get to 20's. but as d10's work fine for d100 rolls, not high priority.

Take a look at HARP, you might like it.

Kinda sorta bumping this thread with some thoughts.. I'm pretty interested, but I won't be coming back in world (for more than 10 minutes for maintainence type rubbish) until probably December.

After that, I wouldn't mind getting involved in this... some thoughts and suggestions having spent many many many years in both the D&D world, and the MUD world.

Whatever you decide to run/use... just run your game. The notion of using SL as simply a 'meeting place' to run a 'tabletop game' is a good one. Very little overhead and you are free to play with a minimum of props. SL becomes the 'school library' or 'garage'.

If you wanted to get more elaborate from that point theres nothing stopping you.

With the plethora of options for 'immersive' and 'hack n slash play' (from Neverwinter Nights, to (N)Everquest, even to SL's own DarkLife project) - I think reinventing the wheel will just bog you down.. Making tools as you go would probably create something different and interesting.

What I learnt from years and years and years of coding Muds - the more you have to do to get your project off the ground, the higher the chance that you'll never start playing.

This is also true for running tabletop games. My elder brother for example was always going to run his 'great game' - but he wouldn't run it until it was 'complete'.. end result - from 1976 till 1985 (when he eventually stopped playing altogether) we never so much as rolled a character for it.. although it was always 'nearly finished'.

As for myself - 1997 till 2003 was the 'Great MUD code' where I would get all the ideas that I thought were fantastic and make the perfect game for me and my friends... needless to say I gave it up for Second Life, after realising that all the people I was going to play it with were now (N)Everquest addicts.

So... just make what you have to make to start playing.... I'd suggest a central die rolling script that does simple rolls on command and spits back who rolled what (similar to an basic IRC die rolling script) - \

Dice : Siggy Romulus rolled a d20 --- 16

Lay down some house rules, submit copies of your character sheet on notecards (email is a good idea, but having a character sheet in game seems good too - you may even be able to use the permissions system to your advantage).

And start playing..

You're bound to end up with a diverse game group as far as Second Life is concerned -- builders, scripters, textures, clothiers.... everything else you need can be made along the way.

Siggy.

Ok, we can't get our forum until we have 15 members. Since we had 12 the last time I checked, we just need three more. Anyone else want in?

Anyone wanna DM? (I'll do it if I absolutely have to, but I can't guarantee I'll be consious at the times I dictate. I'm bad about that whole "regular sleep schedule" thing.)

Maybe there are some folks 'in world' who don't dwell n the forums who may be interested. I think we should plan to have a meeting soon - at my place or anywhere and see who comes. If we only need three more - and all twelve of us show up - hell, we may just attract an elf or a sorcerer!

even to SL's own DarkLife project

DarkLife? Whassat? Sounds interesting!

I skimmed the thread, but I'm very interested in roleplay game aids on SL. Dice rollers, character sheets, etc. While Second-Live Action Role Play might get a bit tooo complex, I think it'd be awesome fun to have the ability to gather a buncha friends 'round the Dinnder Table for a night of epic stroytelling. :)

Could anyone direct me to where I might find these aids? (Sorry if it's all been mentioned previously in the thread..I don't have the time to read it all at work. :P )
