I admit a fascination with the simultaneous destruction of so many lovely textured prims. I like your island, you know that kris, but also to have the guts to tear it down and build anew is equally compelling.

Oh Sweet Cheeks cannot wait to see what u have in mind next. Please let me come take what I want and delete the rest. *gasps* Been working 3 days on my inventory and a return would kill Misty off for sure!

Whether u rebuild or move on to something completely different, your work and that of your friends live on in our memories forever.

Thank you for making sl a much more beautiful and sometimes scarey place.

Love U Always!

Also that there will be nightly orgies involving Fetid (and Feted) Inner Core types and Lindens.

The invasion of the Feted Inner Sphere shall commence soon. Fire up those mechs! :O

Kris,

Heaven and Hell is one of the first places that my sister, Ellen Fauna, and I visited. I want you to know that it is one of the sights that made us get so excited about Second Life. It is truly amazing. Thanks for it and we can't wait to see what is next.

Could you hold off a few days? I haven't had a chance to make a volumetric map of the place.

It would be kindof cool if we could export the properties, location and rotation of every prim to a text/xml file before deleting them.

Funny you should say that Azelda... I'm going to be working on just such a thing, to export into 3dsmax. Combined with Cadroes terrain heightmap export, I should be able to recreate any build for propserity (when its finished, and if it works - its alot of work so dont hold your breath!).

ok, I went back to visit Heaven and Hell last night. Explored every nook and cranny I could find and I know I still missed some. Floated in the air while the fireworks went off around me. Took lot of pictures. Etc. So you can go ahead with your deconstruction now! Would love to watch it all come apart. And can't wait to see what else you've got up your sleeve.

I'm hoping she'll turn it all physical then unlink it, recording the event to an avi or something... I'm also hoping to be there to see it happen. :)

on the subject of saving to text/xml:

- A script that uses getprimitiveparameters to pump data out to an outworld database is probably relatively trivial
- so the difficulty lies in getting the script into each prim

(I assume the script has to be added into each prim, not into each linked object? Can someone confirm yes/no?)

To get the script into each prim:

One way to do this could be to have a script that does something like :
- squirts prim parameters into out-world database
- unlinks prim if linked
- kills prim

This way, one can just drag and drop the script onto each prim one by one; and this would be relatively easy to do.

Alternatively, have a two-phase process:
- script that does setscriptremoteloadpin, then removeinventories itself
- another script that viruses out and squirts the prim parameters to the out-world database

Hmmm, I'm guessing that scriptremoteloadpin only applies to the parent prim of a linked object? For example, I guess we couldnt just set the pin of an object, then unlink it?

Note that once the data is in an out-world database, its relatively easy to convert it into any format one wants.

Summary of points to address:
- I assume the script has to be added into each prim, not into each linked object? Can someone confirm yes/no?)
- I'm guessing that scriptremoteloadpin only applies to the parent prim of a linked object? For example, I guess we couldnt just set the pin of an object, then unlink it?

Summary of possible methodologies:

Method 1:
Have a script that does something like :
- squirts prim parameters into out-world database
- unlinks prim if linked
- kills prim

Method 2:
Two-phase process:
- script that does setscriptremoteloadpin, then removeinventories itself
- another script that viruses out and squirts the prim parameters to the out-world database

Thoughts?

Keep it around a bit more and auction off peices of it. Not the land, but the cool bits. I haven't seen it because no one ever tells me about things like that.

I now have a mental image of Kris with her finger hovering over a giant red button, laughing maniacally.

Krittania is amazing, btw. :D

Shame -- it was the first build I came to respect and still has the coolest cave ever.

Well, I did a couple of mapping runs in Krittania over the weekend, and apparently managed to hammer the XML-RPC server into the ground. Even so, I managed to get what I hope is a complete volumetric map of the sim. There are still a few bugs to work out in the mapping code, leading to objects showing up where they shouldn't be.

I've attached a preliminary render of the sim. The gaps in the map are the result of the XML-RPC server being overloaded. The results of the other mapping runs will fill in that area, but I haven't yet figured out how to do so.

Kewl :)

And yus, I had to play 'hunt teh cube' wif Ian Linden, lest SL dissolve into a big pile of mush.

I was just pleased to be able to honestly tell the Linden that it wasnt me adversely affecting SL this time. :D

I'll miss Heaven and Hell, but I'm excited that you're contemplating something new.
Disneyland had similar issues, even back when Walt Disney was alive. When attendance dwindled, an attraction was replaced with something new. Even today's attractions that were there when the park opened (almost 50 years ago!) have been altered and modified to some extent.

Of course, the downside is that beloved (if outdated or lacking attendence) attractions are lost: The Submarine Voyage, Monsanto's House of the Future, America Sings, Mission to Mars (OK, Mission to Mars kinda sucked).

As SuzanneC suggested, it's too bad a Sim can't be backed up in its current state. If Heaven and Hell only appeared on the grid once a year, people would antipate its return and mob the place when it arrived.
