terms i only use in second life (mostly because i can't tell if people are busy):
forumizing - are you here or are you forumizing? scriptizing - are you free or are you scriptizing? hread (hear/heard/read) - i was too far away and didn't hread that; or i hread that into what he typed. i pronounce it "hured" using any tense rather than saying "hureed." "hureed" just sounds silly. primmage - how much primmage do you have here? primmy - how primmy is it? i remember the first time someone said "i'll send you a port;" i was wondering if it would just be the dock or would include buildings and a crane. _____________________

I'd like someone to explain to me the etymology of the word "rezz". Does this come from the word "resolution" as in "This TV screen has poor resolution". What is the full word from which the word "rezz" is taken? Or is it "restitute" as in restituting coffee from instant coffee crystals? I understand that "rezz" means to take a thing out of your inventory in its file form and make it blow up to a thingie in-world. So it is kind of like an instant coffee crystal. But it also can be gray and smokey and take awhile to show up crisp and clear, so it is kind of like resolution, too. Please explain. My TSO friends coming into SL always ask me. I didn't ask for 30 days because you're supposed to "know" if you are "cool". |

Rezz well I take it to mean Resolve/Resolution As far as I know, it goes back to the movie TRON, Circa 1982, where subjects on the game grid would be de-rezzed (deleted) if they did not follow commands of the MCP. Rezzing and derezzing were used in the movie TRON in 1982 to mean pretty much what they mean in SL, the creation or destructon of a digital object in a virtual world. At one point SARK threatens the gaming conscripts with "immediate deresolution". I don't know if SL picked it up from TRON, and I don't know if TRON coined it, but it's been around for at least 22 years. Lagtastic - An event or place that just throbs with lag, but is cool/fun enough to make you wade through it.
Hoochie Hair - Hair attachments made up of so many prims they could crash a sim, while only really succeeding in making the wearer look like a Chaka Khan back up singer. In RL we call this 'Mall Hair' or 'Vegas Hair'. Skirt Butt - When you change from a skirt into pants and you have no hips or ass, because you had to slim down the Hip Width and Butt so it didn't look like you were smuggling bags of badgers in your skirt. "Oh wait, I still have skirt butt." Dirty Skin - Skins with too heavy detail that just make the wearer look like they have dirt smeared on them. White Apes - Skins that distort facial features so much you put them on and no longer resemble human, and no amount of tweaking will fix it. _____________________

Ohh let's not forget this urban legend of SL: The "Wedding Crasher" dress - a dress that has so many prims it crashes a sim, often to the chagrin of the wedding party involved in the middle of their ceremony. Plat - Often referring to a Platinum grade gential attachment, or sometimes less frequently reffering to a private sky platform, often used as a pleasure palace. on a related note: I would like to add the song "Detatchable Penis" by King Missile as one of SL's unofficial theme songs! Ghosting - still able to chat in IM's but invisible in the world. Ghosts - avatars that look like they are there but aren't there anymore. The weird part being that you can still rate them! _____________________

so... when it's in your inventory it's in a state of non-life when you bring it into the world your rezzing it into a state of life for all to see. *shrugs* thats my best guess on rezzing But that might be because I played everquest, and when you died you would get "rezzed" back by a player casting a spell.
