Terri Schiavo has died

Terri Schiavo passed away this morning after two weeks without a feeding tube. Regardless of how you feel about this issue, it is a very sad day for all involved.

I hope this gives the family space to deal with this by themselves without the whole world watching and intervening.

I kinda thought it was wrong of the doctors, or whoever, prevented the parents from seeing her at the final hour. Sad, really.

I hope the people that pushed to make this happen were right.

I feel that everyone should be happy that she is no longer living in such a horrible state. Yes it is sad, but it is what needed to happen. May she rest in peace.

I felt bad for the parents when I first heard about the case, but was so turned off by their crass behavior (hinting without evidence, that Michael had abused/strangled her, insisting he was motivated by money, selling the list of people who donated money to their cause to activist groups) that my sympathy has worn thin.

Considering the fact that her thinking, consious brain died long ago, I suspect Teri has been at peace for years (and I'm not trying to be funny).

And finally her soul is released. Rest in peace Terri.

sidenote: The media disgusts me. They are showing a helicopter video now of the coroner's van carrying her to her autopsy. gah

Well, the media's just being it's usual self...whatever I guess. Yay entertainment industry. (Media is part of it anyway..)

ok I'm confussed, in the UK an autopsy is only carried out when cause of death is unknown, surely they knew the reason for her death

I know in Canada.. the next of kin will be asked if you want an autospy preformed.

Both her husband and her parents had agreed to an autopsy so the physical state of her brain could be determined.

I heard that now they're fighting over where she should be buried...quarreling is not the thing to be doing today.

I think the husband asked for it to be done.

Terry is in a wonderful place now I really believe that those of us who are left behind, are the selfish ones, for trying to keep her here in a place she doesn't know anymore.

I don't believe that she would have wanted everyone in the world to make a big scene over her, I didn't know her of course. However if anyone ever puts me all over the news like that in that condition I will no doubt be very upset.

I truelly believe that her husband did the right thing, let her go to a better place, I believe this is hell and when you die I believe it will be the most amazing thing. It's usually the people we leave behind that is the most hurt and sometimes they let that hurt get in the way of making the right decisions for us.

I am facing death myself and when I found out, the first thing I did was say to my husband ok I Don't want to be kept alive artificially if there is no hope, I started going over all this stuff I wanted. Then all of the sudden this case came up and I found out that the husband is being ridicueled and poeple are acually showing her all over I was mortified that her wishes were not carried thru.

The next thing I did was go make a real will. Because if anyone ever shows me all over the world when i'm sick like that, and trys to keep me in hell, when a better place is there waiting, and this is what I already asked of my husband, I dunno but I think I would have to find a way back to let everyone know that it was best and to make a will fgs.


I know i'm going to get flamers from this. I will tell you I really don't care, because in my heart I know where i'm going when I die and I know it's a better place then this, especially when your quality of life is gone.

I agree.. everyone should make a living will, because god forbid.. you ever have to look at a loved one on life support or in a horrible state and you have to make that decision. NO one can never know how you feel unless you are in that spot. I admire the husband for standing by her all these years. even though he moved on with this life. He stayed true to his vows. until death do us part. Most men would have run.

Yes the behavior of the media, politicians and the protesters at the hospice is dispicable.

I think that the lawyers and special interest groups on both sides fueled the animosity between the husband and the parents and that is very sad, because they both could have been at her side when she died instead of letting her die in the hands of strangers, regardless of whether she knew anyone was there or not.

In fact, it was probably less important to her that they were present than it would have been to them.

I was driving into work today and I saw several protesters in front of our federal court house with signs protesting the justices ruling.

Funny thing is, I've lived here 9 years now and until this last year I have never seen protesters anywhere in Florida except when NAFTA was in Miami. In the last month or two, protesters have been there every night protesting either the war or some other thing. I've not seen puplic opinion this divided or virulent since the late 1960's.

I thought to myself - has this country gone mad?

You won't get any flames from me - both my husband and I decided the same. There is one person in my family that is a right to lifer and I actually sent him a letter asking him to never question my spouses wishes with a copy of my living will. Anyone in my family who tries to override my living will or my husbands wishes will be cut completely from the trust I have set up. I just did that recently, in light of what I have seen people do to this family and Michael Schiavo.
