Give me a break? BIG RANT

Now as you know I read and post to the boards often. I speak out on topics that interest or piss me off. I do not however let them affect my game/world experience. Now with that said I am realy getting pissed off over ppl saying "Take a break from SL if this issue is ticking you off, take a break if you dont agree with this policy or that linden."

What the hell does that have to do with my standing in world, minding my own business and building?

All I see it doing is alienating players and making them feel as if they disagree with someone in the BOARDS they have a fault and "need a break from their in world experience".

As far as I am concerned that is one way to lose players quickly.

Why this post? In another thread (gen discussion) a Linden suggested it.

I hate that too. When someone says 'take a break', what they're really doing is implying that you're thinking irrationally due to emotional stress over the situation, which belittles your concerns.

That it came from a Linden is even more bothersome. The Linden might have well said "Don't leave SL because Linden Labs likes recieving money from you...maybe if you don't play for a little while you'll forget about your troubles and be happy again when you come back"

Yes as a matter of fact that is how it made me feel.

I find nothing at all wrong with this statement & feel for some people it may be exactly what they need to do.

In your paticular case I think you need to take a break from the forums & spend a lil more time in world

Day 2 I have not logged onto SL. Although I did stop at best buy on the way home from work today to buy a new game.

I have been absent from in world for about a week now, I logged in a few times for a few min. Not my usual 4-6 hours a day routine, and 12 hours on my days off. I have been taking a break from much of SL. All this is the result of information I have received over the last week. Some of the vigilantism I have witnessed in the forums. *Cough Lordflypaper and "friends" *cough. Seems to me SL is evolving in a direction I cannot say I am too happy with. Suddenly I see it is no longer a game. This idea of it not being a game is also being pushed by LL's here and there in articles and in the forums. Its not a game? Well damn then I think "elfin, monsters, witches, moles..." folk are not welcome in the real world of SL. So now I feel misplaced in SL, honestly I do. If this is all about RL then what is the point?

I am saddened to see the end of what I thought was a big fun fantasy world just waiting to be built. I get it now folks, a bunch of perfect Barbie dolls selling their goods. Whoopee *said with a sarcastic tone

I don’t know folks I just don’t know. I guess I could buck the "system" and continue to be elfin me, but what is the point of fighting a losing battle. If I ever figure that one out I think I will be back full time again. Unfortunately taking this break is only pulling me further and further away from SL.

Secondly, what, exactly, am I vigilantizing about? I haven't posted much in the last few days. Please elaborate, unless you're just spouting off random accusations. I'm waiting for the 'he's a witch!' claim, or maybe that I eat babies and flip off boxes of kittens.

Hey Catherine,
I hear you . After Watching a half dozen or so people trash these very forums with everything from Religion to Alternate Lifestyles. I simply dropped my account to basic and opened an online radio station. Its a Load of fun. I found out that I really didn't need to put up with SL. I am a whole lot happier. I also went back to being a mentor in another online game that is much more fun for me and guess what I found out ? I don't miss these troublemakers or the world one bit! Oh yeah I do come into world to visit once and a while but as for the way things were. Let them have it , one day things will change and its a real simple matter to re up my account if i desire. And yes i still read the forums while shaking my head. One day Linden Lab will get it and make a few changes.

As they say, you do your thing and I'll do mine. I'm a whole lot happier now

Lordfly... Aren't your baby-eating and kitten-flipping habits well-established? You can't hide it now, we all know.

But I think the purpose of this thread is less about you, LF, and more about enabling Catherine's feeling of victimhood. So let's all get together and lament whatever it is SL's become that's so bad. I can't say I'm certain what it is we're losing or why the loss is so inevitable, but I suppose it's fashionable to cry about it in the forums.

I have myself comtemplated the 'extended break' idea. Currently I simply have a new approach to SL:

Just skim over the forums if there is anything actually interesting (meaning with content not just headbashing, screaming and drama)
and
go about my own business in SL - don't get mixed up in stuff and just do your own lil thing.

We have friends...people we enjoy being around...stick to them....forget/ignore the negative parts as they are part of RL and SL.

I see you for what you are. If all you have is the time to bully and cause trouble I strongly suggest you get a life. I saw you in the other forums with your friends going after someone for neg rating you. In that same thread you and your friends were trying to organize everyone to neg rate the guy. "witch hunt" you better believe it.

Now your going after me. I think I may also neg rate you.

As for eating babies and flipping boxes of kittens what ever you do in your personal time is none of my business. HA!

I'm not suggesting that you shouldn't be ranting in the rant forum, but rather, if you're going to do so, it would be nice if your rants made sense, if your accusations weren't baseless, and if your posts weren't merely attention-drawing testaments to your undeservedly hyper-inflated ego.

Sometimes it's crass commercialism you're railing against. You're making these weird references to alt-AVs for Lindens, crying about how RL marketers will ruin SL, and then bitching about the consumer-driven nature of SL's economy. It all leaves me wondering what, exactly, you would find acceptable. I suppose you'd rather we all sat in our little corners making little dolls. How cute.

And then sometimes it's about how harsh the forums have become. But you know, I'd hate to say it, but it seems to me that your posts are more consistently negative, accusatory, and aggressive than Lordfly's or just about 90% of the other people on here. So even while you bemoan the loss of whatever essential element of SL it is we've lost, you seem to be exemplifying that loss, you seem to be actuating it and realizing it in a fit of contortionist hypocritical sophistry.

Do us all a favor, then, and take a break. Read a book. Learn the English language. And I mean that in the most friendly way possible.

The idea of taking a break is not a bad one in some cases. At one point I took a break from SL and after doing other things (playing other games, watching a lot of movies, drawing, etc.), I came back. The time off made me realize what it is I like about SL and what I missed most: the artistic aspect and the people
Now I do what Azrazael suggested: skim the forums (mostly the Artists, Designers and Clothiers threads, and when I skim through the ones in the rant, I try and not let them get to me), I build (a lot) and hang out with friends. The world is so big right now, that it's easier to avoid the negative aspects of it, nomatter what they are.

Julian your absolutly right. After careful consideration I think I will take a long long break from the forums and SL I dont like how some of the ppl are allowed to talk to each other. More so its just a little "too" much of real life Ghetto for me.
