Forum "Business" Spilling over into in-world SL

I suspect the poor, manipulated bird will see more than they wanted of such behavior. Maybe next time they'll not be so eager to take a shit in the middle of the forums. Maybe not. Some people never learn. (shrug)

LOL no it was not Merwan. However, I do have a funny little Merwan anecdote for you. When SLExchange first started and Merwan was spamming the forums with links to it, I was pretty vocal in my displeasure about his doing so. Admittedly, I had been picking at Merwan for awhile. His shiny happy person persona just irritated me because I knew no one could be that perky without narcotics. So it became my mission to crack the facade, but Merwan is a crafty one!

I don't remember what exactly prompted this, but I posted something that made Merwan livid. Like clockwork, he posted his usual smiley response. However, he also sought me out on Yahoo Messenger and started swearing at me lol. I believe it was "Who the fuck made you forum moderator??" From that moment on, I was a huge fan of Merwan's, and the rest is history.

Anyone who has a problem with what I post in the forums is more than welcome to IM me in world about them. I am the same person there I am here, with the same opinions. And there, I can tell you what a twat you are without getting booted.

hehe I had a friend bemoan the forums inworld tonight. Obviously the forums, our desires to speak our minds, are important to us. We are emotional beings and we all see the world though interpretation of facts rather than seeing anything as it really is and this leads to disagreement.

If we are on these forums we risk it spilling over into SL as we are those same people and there's no boundary or ethical borders. We don't forget the real world when we go into SL but I have to say, and I've lost friends because of this (and it hurts) if you would rather complain or set rules or bitch at someone for some ill while you are playing your avatar you could be having a little more fun than that.

I try to separate my real life from my avatar's life (I suppose it's easier to separate them if you are playing an opposite gender avi or a non-human maybe), and I have no time for polotics when I'm playing my avatar. I still haven't seen 90% or more of the SL world yet!

A good rule of thumb for the rest of your life is:

Every word you say is a statement which you personally are accountable for.

So don't say anything you think you might regret by the time you reach your death bed, cause it's your statement and it came out of your mouth, and anyone can hold you accountable at any time.

In all honesty I probably couldn't be bothered to IM you to carry on an argument, because I'd rather ignore assholes than encourage them. Generally no amount of reasoning is ever going to change someones point of view, so why bother spending endless hours and untold effort ramming home your opinions to each other on subjects you'll never ever agree on? I'm not into changing people's minds - I just need to know who to avoid!

And on that note, I most definitely boycott people and their businesses (and even other people's businesses they're just associated with) for stuff they've said on the forums, and it really doesn't have to relate directly to me for it to happen.

I see absolutely no reason why it shouldn't be expected that people will bring SL Forum poo flinging into SL. I can't seperate you from your words. If I think you're an asshole on the forums, I think you're an asshole... in SL and in RL! Why there should be a distinction?

Hell, I'd take it to real life, too! Lemme tell you, if I was going to the NY Con, there is more than one SL resident I'd gladly smack in their real life mouth for things they've said in the forums. And I'm very sure there is more than one resident who feels the same way about me

As a kind of P.S. though, you definitely get extra credit from me for having the balls to post as 'you' though... even if I think you're a despicable piece of shit for what you have to say, you're still far less of a despicable piece of shit than those who hide behind various alts to avoid the consequences of their actions.

In my experience people who are assholes on a message board are usually not assholes in RL or even in SL. *Most* peopel are very reasonable and easy to get along with in a personal as opposed to forum context.

In general, I agree. But I don't place nearly as much importance on what people say in an internet forum where everybody, is by rule, anonymous.

Most people, I'd guess, are much more measured in their comments in person (or in private messages, email, IM, etc).



If you spent less time ignoring my posts and more time using yer alleged superior forum skills, that I accepted responsibility for getting myself into the shit. For someone who seems to believe they're so much more clever than the rest of us, you seem to not understand that you should know what you're talking about before you start talking smack to someone.

Though frankly I'm not going to change my forum behaviour just because someone else saw fit to AR me and a moderator didnt have time to read the post in context.

But in fact, and prolly a little boringly, I'm afraid, I meant 'you' as in 'the reader'. A general 'you' to the forums. Wasn't aimed at anyone, other than, I guess, the people I mention who hide behind an alt to post comments they don't want attibuted to their main.

But then again, most of the alts who post here are so blatantly obvious that it's easy to know who to attribute the comments to anyway.
