President Bush's team declared victory Wednesday morning, claiming that Ohio, the remaining key battleground state, had gone its way. But Sen. John Kerry’s campaign was unwilling to concede, insisting that he would win Ohio’s 20 electoral votes when all the ballots were counted — which might not happen for almost two weeks.
White House chief of staff Andrew Card showed up unexpectedly at a gathering of Bush supporters in Washington shortly before 6 a.m. ET. “The president of the United States has won the state of Ohio,” he said. “... This all adds up to a convincing Electoral College victory.”
Card said Bush would make a statement later Wednesday. The president delayed a victory speech to “give Senator Kerry the respect of more time to reflect on the results of this election,” he said.

From: Hiro Pendragon At stake: - up to 260,000 provisional ballots in Ohio not counted - voting problems that PREVENTED THE FINISH OF REGULAR VOTING in Iowa in a slim lead (which Bush's campaign say was a landslide) - a very close race in New Mexico where the state's officials say vote counting will end later today.
The audacity of the Bush campaign to declare victory: (a) before the opponent has admitted defeat (b) before all the votes have been counted ... is just a spit in the face of the democratic process. Once again, Bush is clearly more interested in his victory than the voice of the people.

I agree that a Clinton/Obama could blow the socks off of any challengers. Which was the strategy - don't ya see? If the democratic candidate won this time, it would be eight years possibly before Clinton could get into the race. Four more years of Bush and the Dems will have it bagged with that ticket.

From: Neehai Zapata Clinton/Obama 2008! I think Hillary with a different VP would be another close election. I think Obama will probably be the first African-American (or insert PC term of your choice) to be elected president, but not in 4 years. I think if you put Clinton/Obama on the same ticket, the Dems might as well concede the election before the polls even open.

Could someone please explain to me why you guys have managed to count 120million ballots overnight and now it's going to take up to two weeks to count 260,000?!!
Is one poor sod trying to do it all himself?

You know.. people like you are more amusing than dangerous - especially to those of us who teach logic and argumentation as a profession. I do. You routinely pull out your freshman rhetorical argument book, it seems, and try to find some term for whatever strikes your fancy as something to respond to. Usually I nearly fall off my chair laughing at you.
Tell me then what is your logic...you fight for something you don't believe in as you stated you wished that the US were a dictatorship. Then you tell us to all shut up though we have the freedom to freely express our opinions. Is the just shut up clause actually in your freshman rhetorical argument book? hmmm...please get a higher chair.

I used to think that a Dennis/Dennis campeign would be pretty cool.... That is... Dennis Leary for prez and Dennis Miller for VP, but lately I have come to think Dave Chappelle would make a better VP!
Or maybe:
Jello Biafra / Henry Rollins... now THAT is a ticket I'd vote for!!!

As for who the republicans will put up in 2008....my prediction is a bit out there, but here goes. I see a supreme court challange to the fact that a naturalized citizen cannot run for Prez, and I think it will be changed so that any US citizen, born here or immigrated, can run for President. As soon as that happens, I think Schwarzenegger will begin a campaign...not sure who he'd pick as a running mate though.

I agree Powell should run, I think he'd make a pretty good pres. But didn't he say a long time ago that he didn't want to be pres, or am I making shit up again?

I can't remember the exact statement he made and remember being amazed at his acceptance of a cabinet proposal. I do know he made a statement about political life though..... going to google.

I heard Powell would never run because his wife had a dream about him being assasinated... I dunno if it's true but I like the idea so much I haven't bothered to check! (^_^);;
/me would vote for McCain/Powell or Rice/Powell! Or a Liberman and McCain moderate ticket!
If the Republicans sold out the Constitution to run Arnold I'd vote Democrat even if they ran Sean Penn!
