From: Marcos Fonzarelli If you retaliate with a push weapon, you open yourself up to being abuse reported. Arguing "well they shot me first" isn't going to save you.
Your best bet is to IM a Linden and/or file an abuse report. Yes I know. They should implement some way to make guns useless in certain areas or some kind of land option for it. I would be filing an abuse report 2 or 3 times a week if I did that. Thanks for your post though.

From: Cromulence DeGroot You are assuming that everything that looks like a weapon in SL is actually a weapon, and everything that doesn't look like a weapon is not. You're going to pre-emptively blow away the guy with the AK-47 that just makes gun noises while the girl with the glow stick knocks you three sims over. Brilliant.
So how are you enjoying SL, Mr. Rumsfeld? You cant even see the push weapon I carry. and beware people with floating titles. For a while I used to carry a tiny little tea rose that would smack ya up to 17 sims away, we spent hours testing it. The record is 17 sims away from Crimson to Linmatour. But since push weapons were patched to not be so nasty Ive taken up other methods... On my own land I just eject people.... no shield or offsetting animation can save them from that.

Blake......
I and in fact most of us can understand your frustration but you must try and realize what we are saying also. It's not what you are feeling that we sort of have a problem with, its how you are reacting to it. Do not fight fire with fire. There are far better ways to handle the situation than just playing there game here; listen to these fine folks sir as they do speak wisdom here. In fact, I can sum it up very nicely with this 'rough' quote.....
"When you look long into the abyss, the abyss always looks back and when fighting monsters, one must make sure in the process NOT to become a monster." - Nizitchi (Sorry I do not have his name in front of me).

Some days when I have nothing better to do, I feel like a stroll over to my neighboring club and lighting all the patrons asses there on fire. I feel it helps with the club's ambiance since they do proclaim it's "the hottest spot in SL." But I just know that once I walk in there with my glorious flamethrower, I will be lagged to death. And, no, the weapons I use do not push people. They only make blood spurt out of their pixel flesh. It's so prettiful.

There's no way to stop it as far as I can see. We DO try, anyone who comes into our club armed is asked ONCE to put the weapon away before they are removed but by then it's often too late as they've shot up half your club. Then of course you ban them so they sit just off your land and fire into the club anyway,so you go put their name into your security system and it removes them from range and the next thing you know....you have a warning from Linden Labs
Griefing IS on the rise, we've had the same guy come back 4 days running and no amount of abuse reports from all the people in the club this moron has shot has made any difference. No kids in second life? maybe not a whole lot of adults with a mental age above 14 then.

From: Lance LeFay I endorse this product and/or service. What, you endorse shooting clubbers? Or endorse shooting them back and being a massive hypocrite? Or endorse shooting them back, being a massive hypocrite and then come whining about it in the forums? Or 'Other'? Clarify! (Btw, the usual way to clarify or further state your case is to just quote a dictionary definition of some semi related word in big, bold font. I suggest answering with a definition of 'endorse'. That'll clear the matter right up. However, if you don't want to do that, an unrelated quotation that you don't quite understand and neither fits the context nor furthers your argument will suffice. Failing that, you could always start a poll. Which must have an extremely ambiguous title and initial question, a biased set of options to choose from, and you must edit the first post repeatedly after people have started responding to it). Oh, and I didnt use a smiley once. Just drawing that to your attention so that you realise my motivation and intentions in posting.

The response of many game developers to griefing (which is a problem in virtually ALL multiplayer games) is to code out the mechanisms that allow it. In-game support tends to be understaffed, underpaid, and all too often outsourced to some shop in Bangalore that doesn't understand the game's culture. Faced with an inability to enforce rules of conduct, companies opt instead to restrict players' ability to interact with each other. If reports of obvious griefing are being ignored (and forgive me, but that's hearsay at this point - we have no objective evidence), that points to enforcement issues. Those can be due to short-staffing, GM favoritism or bribery, a hands-off philosophy that players should resolve their own issues, or even a developer attitude that paid subscribers are a legitimate pool of lab rats for sociology experiments rather than customers expecting value for their investment. Whatever the cause, it tends not to get addressed until it shows a significant impact on revenues, at which point the live team goes into panic mode and starts coding solutions - which often curtail the freedom of players who are not intending or causing grief. The ideal solution is to invest in recruiting and retaining a professional customer support/GM staff. These are your front-line troops, and they should be pulling down at least as much as the devs, if not more. Enforcement demands judgement and interpretive skills you're not going to get from a minimum-wage flunky that you treat like a doormat. Unfortunately, I don't see the standards shifting any time soon. Count on spotty enforcement throughout the industry until somebody wises up.
