I have been a beta tester for awhile but finally decided to give it a complete spin since I am a bit frazzled by SL at the moment - is anyone else playing the beta, and if so, how do you like it?

Hmm? What's that? How do you get to be a beta tester anyway? Unfair! The Matrix Online is an upcoming MMORPG based on the Maxtrix universe - it is kind of a combo of a futuristic fighting game and a social/fashion game as well (since they have raves, and clothing is a huge part of making your character distinctive). It is sent in a giant city, like City of Heroes, and from the brief time I played it, is pretty interesting. Not really like SL much at all - just a cool diversion. And I won't reveal my mad beta testing skillz completely - but if you ever look at my site you would realize I am aware of these things - I post them all the time in the beta opportunities forum. _____________________

I forgot to check your site for beta info on the Matrix OL. I have been looking forward to it and I understand it's going live the end of March. I did check out some screenshots on Gamespot recently and it looks pretty good.

Is the NDA lifted? What can you tell us about it?

Is the NDA lifted? What can you tell us about it? Yes the NDA has been lifted. I can't tell you a lot only because I have not played it much - but what I have played was impressive. I guess think World of Warcraft in Dolce and Gabbana leather pants. It is pretty immersive almost immediately - interesting quests and combat, and the social aspects are interesting too. It will be released at the end of March - I'll be happy to post more about it after I've played it more - I am installing it on my new laptop now, it's been awhile since I played it. _____________________

I played the Beta.. Go to Best Buy, And buy the 10 dollars "Preorder" box.. and it gives you a code to enter the matrix...
They have beta tests EVERYDAY.. so its always open.. Umm i gave up on Matrix online. Its kinda laggy, but not much laggy. The special Effects of the game is awsome! but its kinda dark. Its fun to go on missions with ppl you meet, and you can also do a dual with any other person, Its a large world, i always get lost... every building you see.. you can enter.. and you can enter each floor.. which is kinda cool.. And you can fight "NPCs" who are around the city.. each npc has a skill.. Its alright... But i will recommend it... its only 10 bux try it to see...I crashed like 3 times, since the game is still in beta! And if you are waiting on them to pick you.. forget it! Go to best buy ![]() The Game Is a big file and takes a bit to download... Hope this helped someone lol (( I tried going into those GAme spots, and Other game stores, to pre-order, but they did not want to give me a code)) so i did not get it.. Best buy has a code inside the box!)) Matrix Experience: 8 out of 10 Poor: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 ( 9 10 : Excellent * If you love the Matrix Movies you will like this * _____________________

Oh, btw, I got mine through FileShack. I am a Mercury member.
As soon as you choose to download TMO they email you a beta key. _____________________

I signed up for beta on that one, but did not get picked. ![]() It was in Closed beta for a long time - it went open beta near the end of the year, and now if you pre-order it, you can get a code to get the beta. The only thing about the preorder approach is you can't cancel your order - so if you hate the beta, you can't cancel. It is an option to try it out though. I seem to remember Fileplanet offering something also. _____________________

I've been in it since about the middle of November, but haven't played it much due to being in World of Warcraft. If WOW wasn't around, I'd probably be in it more.
One thing interesting about it is that you can use AIM through it, as long as you have it already installed. I was going to put the AIM handle on my profile, but it won't take it. A week or so ago FilePlanet had keys to a stress test for it. I think they ran out pretty quickly. |

I've played it a little, from what I've seen I havent been to impressed, the combat is very much hit and miss, with little detail other than clicking a button and hoping for the best, maybe there is some sort of system that you can work out to do well in combat, but from what I saw it was pretty much just luck of the draw. Also while I was only playing at a very low level for a short time, the missions were basic escort, talk to or retrive missions, with very little of the cool matrix feel to them. hmmm maybe i should play more to really make a decision, but these are my early impressions.

I had a friend at work tell me about Beta -
he said he was impressed at how indoors and outdoors would both be rendered, so you could be fighting inside, look out the window, and see action crashing in from the street. Me? I've been too busy beta testing the metaverse *chuckles* ![]() _____________________

As a general rule, I never play any game based on a movie =)
Besides, if it's a "fighting game", and if it's like WoW, then it's probably a boring xp-mining bashfest. I came to SL to get away from those ![]() _____________________

I too am a MXO beta tester. I really haven't played much do to the excessively huge update (5Gig) and the lag I experienced during my first 2 weeks of playing. It could have been my machine. (3.4 ghz, 1 gig RAM,128 mb Geforce FX, 250 gig harddrive)
I play City of Heroes so I was really tired of doing missions and leveling up. Very cool visual effects and storylline. Got into the beta by purchasing the preorder box from Best Buy. MXO goes live March 22. Ra |

Beta tester since november, logged in a total of 10 times. This game SUCKS.
"Hay there, you want to help zion rite? Ok, go heer and kill some people, oh and don't forget to get that dude to follow you and if you jump over a rail you have to do the mission agian!" "Oh, your done with that mission? Well here is the same mission but the people have different names." "Oh, don't feel like taking a mission? Ok, go and kill some shit. But make sure not to attack anything or you'll b gang raped by his buddies!" I'm not even going to bother agian. _____________________

The lag has lessened greatly since I started the beta in November. |

For those that are still in now, which server are you on? I figured I'd blow the 3 day weekend trying it out.

Only one server, out of 5, are open at this time. There was a character wipe done as well, sometime in the last month or so. I went in today and had to start a new character.

Second Life is more Matrix than MxO in some respects. In MxO, the process of crafting code to attain higher ranks is emulated, and thus, a simulated process, but in SL, you're actually scripting!
![]() Also, I suspect one's abilities to alter their reality are far greater in Second Life. It may be fun, but it just didn't appeal to me. Are there Hug Attachments in MxO? ![]() _____________________

Torley, this is such a good observation! I guess the whole "involuntary, unknowing" aspects of the Matrix kept me from putting the two together... but I suppose it's a very true statement! _____________________
