I've been reading a lot that in 1.2, if you buy land and then release it, you are NOT reimbursed the purchase price, you lose the money you paid for the land.
Is this true or just a bug in the 1.2 preview?
If it's just a bug, please put peoples minds at rest over this.
If it's a feature it sucks.

true.
Land is 1 dollar per square meter now, though.
it's to prevent someone from saying "I'd like to pay 200 bucks to own a sim, please", and then the lindens put one up, and then the guy disappears, the lindens are left with a very expensive, empty server.

If that's true, is it absolutely true we'll get reimburesements for the land we bought already? After I got a lifetime last week I immediatly picked up the full 4096 because of some prime beachfront property that came up for sale.
All in all, it was over 12K for my land. It's be great to get 8K back.

That is what we've been lead to believe Jellin.
I envy you though, I have L$20k tied up in group land that I won't get credit for unless I eject everyone from my group before the 1.2 change over....
Just when is the change over anyway??

Unfortunatly Phoenix, Phillips posts do not address the question that was asked in this thread. Phillip was "discussing credits on current land holdings" as you stated. However, the question in this thread was in regards to the "rumor" that in 1.2, when land is simply released by a person, that person gets $0 back from the release. Is this true or false? Lordfly, you say it is true, and I have no reason to doubt you. Have you seen a post or chat log that verified this for certain?

I felt the original question was answered. But, in order to be clear:
* you will not be refunded money on land release.
* you will be credited for current holdings.
There are a lot of reasons for this, some subtle and some obvious. The most obvious is that this prevents people from effectively 'owning' a plot of land by claiming it, never confirming the purchase, and then releasing and reclaiming the plot in short order. This would reduce overall land availability for residents and on a grand scale, cripple the overall land allotments.

Thank you Phoenix! If Phillip answered it, then it was not at all clear to me before. But your answer is very clear and the statement of reasons explains it even better. Are there any plans in the works to allow for a person to just put a section of their land up for auction, sale, or release? Or will a person have to auction off their entire land if it is joined together (since there is no way to just choose a few squares right now) ? Any idea?

This effectively makes "guided terraforming" impossible or prohibitively expensive. Can we have some tool for masking certain owned squares of land or a way to lock and unlock them like we do with prims so the land edit tools don't affect them?
Also, I feel it is absolutely necessary that we be allowed to release individuals squares rather than entire connected land holdings.

From: someone Also, I feel it is absolutely necessary that we be allowed to release individuals squares rather than entire connected land holdings. Yes! This is completely necessary if we will be losing money every time we release land. We must have a better method for changing the shape of the owned land or reducing holdings other than releasing all land (and losing all that money) and reclaiming.

Perhaps I should e-mail this to support But: My roomates and I formed a group to share the tax load on our house. We put our land in the group..... Does that mean we don't get credited for that land? I guess its not a big deal, but for me, and possibly my groupmates, it was an expensive purchase. Its not all that much L$, but we are new, and it was a lot to us

Just got this answer from Philip in another thread: /120/bc/7775/1.htmlFrom: someone We will think about some solutions to the problem of wanting to release a small part of a large parcel. Good feedback.

I agree, we -must- have a way to release small chunks of land instead of the entire thing.

Personally I think if you Lindens plan to sell an entire sim, you should set up a required payment method of some sort. Offer the whole sim for those are willing to commit a minimum of one year of payment for it. Payment could/should be up front and a minimal amount of construction done on it to be considered a valed (sp.. minds blank sorry) contract.
I'd like to see this considered personally. If I could find a sim that's out of the way of the mainstream public and not affect everyone's ability to get their own. I'm willing to do that above mentioned.
