Not sure if I am just missing some command, or what, but perhaps someone can help me with this.
After 1.1 I joined all my land in Federal together so that it would be just one big plot. I was going to release just one square of it yesterday, but every time I go to edit land, it wants to make me select the whole plot and won't let me just draw the box around that one square. How then can I release that one square without having to release my whole plot of land?
While this would be just a pain more than anything else right now, in v1.2, people will not be getting money back for released land. I would very much hate to have to release my whole plot of land and lose all the money for it, just because I needed to release one square to remain in my monthly price range allotment.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Any way around this?

The Lindens have promised to credit us the difference in the price for our land, so however much you hold now, you'll get L$ credit when 1.2 comes in. You can then relase it all and re-claim without loosing money.
However, question to the Lindens... ALL the land in my group was deeded by myself and is way over my personal allowance for 1.2 How do I get that land back, or at least a share of it, without all it's value being shared to the group?

You can then relase it all and re-claim without loosing money. Since they will not be giving me credit for *all* my land, only for the difference, I would *still lose* a great deal of money if I released the land after 1.2. Because you do not get any money back at all from releasing land in 1.2. So I would have my little bit of money from the credit to help buy it back, but most would just be coming out of whatever I already have saved up myself. This is not a good thing in my eyes. And good or bad, there should certainly be a way to release just a square at a time from joined land if you so desire. I'm still hoping you can and that I'm just missing something.

I agree there should be a way to detach a piece of land from a large 'lump' but as far as I'm aware there isn't. Also I was under the impression that in 1.2 your L$ would still be refunded if you release land, though obviousely at the new cheaper rates. Am I wrong in this asumption? Can someone clarify this please? I can't remember reading any Linden post that specifically says we loose our money once we've bought land with it...

While I have not yet seen the confirmation on the boards from a Linden, many of us testing the v1.2 preview learned that buying land and releasing it resulted in no money returned. I'm assuming this is to push everyone into using the auction land system that is coming? Or who knows why? If it is a bug in the preview only, then it needs to be fixed before it goes live. If it is staying, I think something like this bit of information needs to go into the FAQ for 1.2 for those who don't test the preview. And yes, there does need to be a way to release, sell, auction, etc individual pieces of land that is already joined. I can think of many situtations where a need like this could arise. And thank you for trying to help me with my questions Surina.

Oh, and Surina, when you release or sell group land, if that land was deeded to the group, then the money returned from the release gets divided among every group member. That is just how it is set up right now. I just released land that was deeded to a group, and there was no option given to keep the money just for myself (even though I bought the land originally).
I suppose this is to keep "corrupt leaders" from getting money from lots of people to buy a piece of land for a group, and then releasing the land and taking off with the money. *shrug*

Help? I was just trying to finally get rid of my "Junior member" status after being here for over 6 months No seriously, I'm just as much in the dark as anyone else when it comes to what will happen and what won't in 1.2 I can only go by what the Lindens have posted, and I can't remember them saying that we'd loose money spent on land... I've tried the 1.2 preview myself and there is a lot missing/not working right/not implemented yet... I assume that will be fixed by release date. Who knows?

While I can understand stuff not yet being implemented in the preview, I want to assume that anything that is in there *should* be working properly. And if it isn't, then we should be bug reporting it. I'm excited about 1.2 coming, it is just there are still questions that continue to pop up in the meantime, and sometimes it is caused by one thing being said one day, and something different being said the next day. I feel like we are getting close to ironing out the wrinkles of confusion, at least I know it feels that way for me. But I'm sure I'll end up thinking of something else to ask about too.. hehe

The fun thing about these forums is that if the Lindens don't say anything, then someone will infer something by it... I have never read anywhere in a Linden posting that relasing land will not relase the L$ back and yet because that happens in the preview everyone assumes that is what will happen in the release version. hmmm, I have also never read that lifetime memberships are going to expire once the preview is out of date. I wonder if someone will now start a thread worried that their lifetime membership is about to expire.. hehehee

Clarifications:
We will be crediting you for the full value of land you own at transition to 1.2, not a difference.
Land released in 1.2 will not refund money. The claim costs for land in 1.2 will be lower than the current L$3/meter.
We will think about some solutions to the problem of wanting to release a small part of a large parcel. Good feedback.

Thank you for the clarifications Philip! And also for considering the function of releasing just a portion of joined land.

Also confirmed here even better by Philip.
Thanks Philip.
However it doesn't help me when nearly all my land was deeded to my group... guess I'll just have to eject everyone for a couple of days untill it's sorted out...

Just about to ask about land deeded to the group.
So I know the fate of groups and group land is put on hold. However, it would be nice to know, if we will get refunded on group land? And if so will it be to group as a whole or the original owner.
I'd like to request that it be to the original owner. In our group, some members generously ignored the fact that they were not reimbursed for the land they deeded, and had no practical way to get that land purchase price back. It would be nice if they could reap the benefit of that generous contribution.
