Guess the Location, Win L$100.

Things change a lot in SL and I have a ton of landscape pics to prove it. This is a forum contest and it may develop into an in world photo hunt, depending on how this goes.

The rules are simple. I will post a pic of a location from the past. You have to figure out where it is, go there and take the same pic today. Frame it as close as possible to the one I post and post your own. The first to post the right pic wins L$100.

I will pay the first to post the corresponding pic, but I ask that if you already know the location and dont really need the money, let some others have some fun with it.

Here is the first pic, a few more will follow if it turns out to be popular.

Ok, your right. As big as the world is now, I could probably do this with the current pic and just have people find that location. But, the exercise was to show how the world has changed. Here is a hint about the first pic: "I tried to lighten the original pic with photoshop, but Im not sure the color came out right."

Uh...just at the release of new sims... this one being Green?

it's the corner of periwinkle, purple and umbar. hikuelo wasn't there then so you see open ocean in the lower left of the older picture but a small island in the new one. that's my best guess.

Kathy is right about the sims being new. But, you have to have a pic to win.

Okay, I give up. Due to lack of additional response the first picture contest is closed. The location was mostly Mauve, with Chartreuse to the left and Green in the foreground. Attached is a pic of how it looks today.

I guess that concept is pretty hard these days so here is a different slant.

This picture was taken today and it is a fairly well known place. But, I used debug to remove the builds. Can you figure out where this is based on the terrain alone? L$100 to the first to name the landmark or sim name for the attached pic. No need to post a pic, just name the place. Hint: This pic was taken while facing Northwest.

I started to lose track of all the sims when those ones were added.

Well, this is a fairly well known place today, just without the builds. I thought this one would be fairly easy, but maybe not. I guess the stakes for my prize are not great enough.

I guess this is a lousy idea for an in world event, lol. I am dying to post the pic of the current pic with its builds, but I will give it a little more time.

Like I said, it is a well known location. I guess its the builds that make the destination, not the terrain, so let this be a lesson to us all.

Well, this was a big dead end, but hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Maybe a better idea for an in world contest would be to have a photo safari. I could show a pic of something located in the, or a nearby sim, and have the participants find it and bring me a pic of it. Oh well, something more to think about I guess.

This contest is officially over, sorry it was so hard. I welcome continued discussion on event ideas and ask that this thread moved to the events discussion forum.

As for the location of snapshot_2406, that location without builds is Lestats Dark Erotica, located in Brooks (told you it was popular). Here is the same pic, but how it looks normally with all the builds in the area visible.

I may have been too dense to figure out the locations, but I still think this (or more specifically, a version of this) could be a fun game, and I appreciate your efforts in setting it up.

Wow, Loki, I'm glad you posted where it was. I for one was going nuts trying to figure it out last night.

I thought I could be slick and get an idea from the map - river running in a northeastern direction - but it didn't pan out for me.

I love these types of contests, and I always seem to hear about them too late, so please keep the hunts coming

I'm only familiar with the old world sims. Beyond those, I get lost.

Hint 1: Like Pituca, I removed all of the objects that are there using the Debug menu and just left land and trees.

Hint 2: The view is looking north-northeast.
