Ah but you youngins don't know you're rezzed!
When I were but a wee lass, we had to walk all the way from orientation driftwood - aye, we didn't have no whole island back then - and it were uphill all the way too, through freezing ice.
An' when we got to the mainland, we 'ad to fight off the mentors with our bare 'ands, so we did, trying to 'elp us and whatnot! Aye, you all got it easy now!
An' there were no events button, no... there were a girt big billboard between the welcome area and stage 4, and every day, we 'ad to fly all t'way from our 'omes to click it and get a notecard of t'events. Couldn't afford no teleportin', cept super rich nobs, an' they ad it all reet like, ye know, jus' like you all 'av now. No tele'ubs neither, nor vehicles that worked.. and taxes, Lordy were we taxed... L$10 just to rez a cube, and then L$1 a day to keep it rezzed...
When I were on the trial, couldn't even rate folks till we signed up'n payed, and were stuvk in them Pee Gee areas and whatnot...
Ah, we 'ad it 'ard... toughened us all up though... aye, so it did... you see that there Eggy... Shell like iron on that one... 'cept for the gooey cracks...

From: Eggy Lippmann I spent my first few days trying to make it out of prelude, since SL crashed like once every 5 minutes. That is what happened to me in Beta, tried for a couple of times before realizing that my computer wasn't fast enough to run SL. Finally got a new computer last november and remembered Second Life seeing something on G4TV about it.

For my first few days, I started out going to lots of events (back when there was a wide variety of events). Then I found out about land for the landless, got myself a 512 lot, built my first home, met my current boyfriend through SL, and here I am hooked. There were times I only kept on with SL because of him, so if not for that I don't know what, if anything, would've kept me around in SL. It took several months before I was building things I was at all proud of. It took several months for me to find my nitch and really get into SL.

I'll come explain it all to you later Quick summary, tho, to get you back on track - you are a happy go lucky shepherdess at Schwansons sheep sanctuary, and you usually wear the CUTEST little pink 'Bo-Peep' dress, carry a candy cane crook and have your hair in little bunches. You can often be seen skipping merrily across the fields singing tunes from The Sound Of Music. remember yet?

From: Kris Ritter I built for fun! 'Course, back then, you started with a couple thousand L$, could pick up a nice chunk of land for next to nothing, Land Barons didnt exist til the following week, and you could use as many prims as you wanted unless your neighbor had built a bookcase. What would I do now as a noob? Dunno. Money roolz. Can't have fun without it. (should I put a Mole style </sarcasm> at the bottom of every post, btw?) Keep the free market. The free market is good for all. Most efficient allocation of resources.

The first day I learned that SL was just a wee bit too much for the awesome power of the Intel Extreme Graphics Chipset. And I was pretty much screwed for a bit.
Then I managed to steal a 64mb PCI Nvidia card from somewhere and I was hauling ass on my office's T1 . Learned how to move, work the camera, and how to appologize for walking into people when I get nailed by command lag.
Lately I'm learning to effectively dispatch other players with scripted weapons. I am currently perfecting a mouselook weapon that literally summons a giant hand to crush a targets head with thumb and forefinger.

Tell him to build a fishtake where you can feed the fish! Goddamnit, if someone doesn't do this I'm gonna do it myself! And you know I will too! There is so much obvious stuff that needs to be done!

From: Nolan Nash Don't you mean fight off the club recruiters? No, at that time, the only club recruiter was Nolan Nash, and I don't remember him being quite so crass.

It was hella crude and didnt seem to have many lines builtin. Go LSL! Tcoz, for the love of god tell me you have a picture of it or something. I just looked for more info on the forums and there's a grand total of one post by Mikeb Linden about it... :\ Who remembers Lance's bargain barrel?
