a) SL is getting 8 million US dollars in investment from some rich folks.

b) It won't cause the end of SL as we know it.

c) All is well.

*kills any bad threads in their crib*

Thanks.

Catherine, I'm not picking a fight with you.. BUT.. if that's the case as you've stated many times...

Why are you still here?

Why do people have to throw the same line at anyone that doesn't like where things seem to be going? It's possible to WANT to be here, to be extremely fond of what SL was (and occasionally still can be on alternate Fridays) and yet still despair over what is happening overall.

I remember when people were nice in SL. I remember when it wasn't all about the money. When people didn't rip each other off at any opportunity. When every sim on the mainland wasn't lagged out with ugly clubs. When Lindens would give you the time of day. When you'd get answers from support. When you could buy land straight from someone else without some land baron coming along and providing you a 'service' by buying up all the land so you can pay more for the same thing. And soooo many other things that have gone to shit since.

I'm not interested in discussing it with y'all, thanks. Those days are gone. They're not coming back. But if you ask me why I'm still here I'll ask you why you don't go f*ck yourself.

Aaaaand that has to be about the first time I have stuck up for Cat. But I happen to agree with her on some of her points, and she has a right to make them just like everyone else round here without being told to leave or asked why she hasn't yet.

And no. For the record, 8 million in capital doesn't make me want to orgasm either. It leaves me quite cold, actually. I'll just f*ck off now, shall I?

I must be missing some subtle point... I can see how 1.2 brought about the abolition of taxes and the eventual capitilization (hmm that sounds funny) of the community.
How this subtle shift caused such huge upsets such as the land wars and the degeneration of the 'open starter base'..... BUT.....

I don't see how adding to the board and the infusion of several million dollars into the parent company (some of which by a COMMUNITY MEMBER) relates.... apart from the mention of money (the root of all evil) I don't see any comparison.

... if one of these people has lived with us, they obviously know the recent.... for want of a better word..... shitfights, that have occured recently.
This is one of 'us' sitting with 'them'... I see it as a nice shot in the arm with the added bonus of someone from the 'streets' being able to converse with the management..

Or maybe I just have my head up my ass per usual.. it's a 50/50 kinda thing.

Siggy.

I find the premise of this thread extremely sardonic. Whatever makes ya feel smart and important I guess...

As long as we don't get hyperlink banners for E Bay all over the place I am ok with it.

Am I the only person left in the civilized world who has never ever used Ebay? I don't even have an account!

Actually, another confession while I'm about it : I don't have a cell phone either.

I don't have a cell phone either, :) but I do buy and sell movie collectables on E Bay. It's very convenient and without it I couldn't do what I do. That said I do not want SL to turn into an E Bay extension.

I have to confess I have never even visited e-bay. But I do have a cell phone, and I have ordered groceries online and shop on Overstock.com

What part of what I said was negative? Sorry if you took it as being a bad thing. When I have a clear defined opinion and I want to write it all out, I do. I have an opinion just not willing to share just yet :)

I have never used Ebay, though I have bought many things online over the years. My hubby had never bought on Ebay either till just the other day when a friend directed him to a great deal on a motorcycle part that he just couldn't pass up. hehe..

I do have a cell phone, however I got it just last Christmas and it is the first one I've ever had. I still can't seem to type messages on it or figure out how to add phone numbers, but then I do keep my hubby around for a reason you know? :D

I would LOVE to have this feature available in world. Would open up a whole new line of creative things that could be done! At least in my opinion. :)

Ebay is full of scammers
My gf bought a GBA game from some dude with 1000+ positive ratings and it worked very well for, uh, a month or so. It started crashing, the battery no longer works so you cant save the game anymore, and now the sticker fell off. It's probably an illegal copy made in china or something.
Watch out for someone named "hurricane collectibles" when buying GBA stuff on ebay. They're nasty.

Eggy... to be fair, are you SURE that for something to work 'very well' for a month and then stop working that you can really blame the seller? I mean, by your own admission it worked when he sent it to you! o.O

If an infusion of eBay flavored money led to something like the embedded browser in the attched screenshot, I would feel a burst of enthusiasm for SL projects. It's interesting that what eBay and SL have in common are auctions.

Yes you can blame the seller if the product is not what it was advertised. If the product was made with substandard parts and just a copy of the game ROM, then it may work fine for awhile, but those parts don't hold up under normal use, thus what has happened to Eggy's girlfriend. He is right, buying software of any kind on ebay is a very tricky proposition. i have used ebay a few times in my life, nothing major - a docking station for my laptop, a dvd/mp3 player, a Jennifer Lopez remix CD, and a beanie baby alien :)
