Ya know Tcoz...I have put alot of thought into that as well...more because I thought it would be a great way to stop greifers (people wouldn't be as prone to grief if they were forced to pay access to attend events. I think hosting a select group of linden sponsored free events for newbies is fine though...maybe making it harder to be hosted by the lindens (ie your event has to be of the nature that a newbie would benefit) I would be willing to pay 5 or 10 lindens to enter a clothing contest or play a game...why not. It would level the playing feild and make club owners/event hosters make something that people want to pay for.

I understand having linden hosted classes, kinda like the public school mentality...but other events would likely profit from a cover charge well above the money that the lindens would give them and they could easily track their clientel. It would also add another element to the economy offering a way for people to recycle money instead of more money just being pumped into the system....don't have alot of time to think it all through right now but I do think that there should be a difference between what is viable for linden sponsorship and what is to be deemed a business venture. Though I do like the cash prizes offered at many of the events...they would be more meaningful if covered by a cover charge and given less frequently or in smaller quantities.

Why not have to buy a pass to go to the zoo, elysian island or the national park...or pay for a membership at a night club and pay a couple of bucks to enter...that is what will keep the economy churning and allow the owners/hosts to make bigger better events/areas...it may not work and it may be worse than it is now (which is by no means bad)...but it could be an awesome experiment if enough people were willing to try to host outside linden sponsorship...dunno just a thought

No, you are all mistaken, Push guns wont hurt you, normal guns wont hurt you, except when you are in a damage enable area, this is so you cant sit and go "hahaha you cant kill me you suck" while you bombard them with scripts and following kill drones and the like.

Toward the end of my tenure in There, I had organized a sort of sport in the world to try to sit in the passanger seat of a buggy coming at you full tilt. I called it bull fighting and it required definate skill for both parties (the matador and the bull) to play it. I'd build an arena, and ideally four or five matadors would be running around, trying to kill the bull (by sitting in the passanger seat) while the bull was busy hurling matadors into the air.

It was great fun, but it was born out of a survival tactic, or an anti-griefing tactic.

I was thinking that avatar billiards would be an interesting activity too at some point.

While in There I often wondered if people who got all bent out of shape would be those who had invested more of themselves (and their hard earned cash) into their avatars than others. It always seemed to me that the people who had come to closely identify themselves with their avatars were likely to be most shocked and angered over grifing.

I'm delighted that the amount of out and out griefing in Second Life seems much smaller than in There. Possibly because the consequences seem more substantial and the user base is somewhat older in SL than in There.

Now THAT I didn't notice until just now. That show is good... lol

If you ever get a chance to see "Chef" check that out (I think everyone already knows Mr. Bean). But especially watch "'Allo 'Allo", too bad it's almost impossible to find now. They need to play more British comedy on the public stations where I live.

I love _Allo_Allo_!!!...what a strangely creative show...love the way everyone pretends to be speaking French while speaking varying qualities of English...and all the running jokes and set pieces.

You can make a non-physical non-phantom "dome" over yourself and hide in that when people start firing watermelons your direction in the Sandbox. I used to do that until I got my land over at the volcano in Pomponio. People try running you over and watermeloning you and sooner or later they give up and go someone else :)

My apologies for keeping this off-topic thread off-topic :D

Tcoz, I thought of an interesting idea to help with "private" classes without banning everyone from your land.

Barring the conflict of people wanting something for nothing instead of quality for a price.

Take a list of people that pay for your class, make sure you have all their calling cards. Then create a "class" folder in your calling cards and have a IM window class.

Thereby it's private, no freebie advice or eavesdropping getting class for free types. Then other people can stop by and chat, hangout, do whatever.

Not to mention it frees up the general chat window so you dont have to scroll up to see who said hi :-)
