Optimistic... but sad, because I can't think of something witty to add. More coffee!

Here's my view...

There's four states a person can be in:

A) Optimistic - I fully expect everything to turn out for the best and am only prepared to be right about that.

B) Pessimistic - I expect everything to go horribly wrong and plan for just such an occurance.

C) Optimistic Pessimist - I expect everything to go badly but I'm going to act like it's all okay anyway.

D) Pessimistic Optimist - It'll all probably turn out okay, but I'm going to prepare for the worst just in case.

As for the glass, it's not the current level of fluid that matters. You have to take in the entire span of time the glass will be in existance and determine the maximum and minimum amounts it will ever be needed to hold. Then if you have too much glass, it was overengineered, and if your cup runneth over, it's time for that upgrade you've been putting off. So it's either "you have twice as much glass as you need" or "get out the sponge, because the flood is sure to be next".

Oh, and for the procrastinator... Yes, eventually the liquid will evaporate and the glass will be empty once more, but it's likely to leave unsightly rings and those are a biatch to clean.

(Oh, I'm a "D" and I think the "C's" need medical help...:))

Pessimistic. I'm sure LL is going to continue to offer small, incremental improvements to SL. I'd also say SL is going to be around for a good while... at least another 2 years.

But is it forever? No. Is it the next Internet? Categorically, no. It's a neat toy. However, something fundamentally different and fundamentally better will come along eventually, which may or may not involve Linden Lab.

You are ALL wrong. The glass is ALWAYS 100% full. Sometimes it has some water in it, but the part that doesn't contain water always has air in it.
