Um, how did these people get advertizing on the main secondlife domain?

Is it free?

Who decides what goes up and what doesn't??

What does it take to "get noticed" do you have to be (basically) in bed with a linden?

Seriously... I see FIC written all over this...

Well, the Lindens had to do something for their pets now that Top Picks is gone...

(Note to FIC - this is a joke, please don't kill me)

Annah,

Different stores, but some of them are in close proximity to each other. The locations are noted on the website. :) I am friend of both Chaos peeps from Indigo + Chaos and Midnight City "Umberinos" (as I smilingly call them) and I am so happy to see their fantabulous fashions featured in such a pretty ad. I think it's a unique way of doing a promo to bridge the real and the virtual too and get people interested in the wonderful world o' Second Life.

So, el mucho respect to Ferran, Surreal, Mistress, Torrid, Aimee! :D

I never did find the clothes from the Alien Outfitters ad. I looked all over the shop in Indigo. Maybe I missed it? Oh and thanks to Aimee for a cool outfit. I bought some of Torrids stuff too.

Damn, I didn't think anyone would figure out my plan! I go by the linden trading cards, it's easier to pick out who I sleep with next that way. Oh and Shadow, damn 500 plugins?? Here I thought I was doing well with my 25 or so :).

You use the trading cards to decide which Linden to sleep with too? Hey I will trade you a night with Uncle Linden and a Andrew Linden for one with Bub and Ben.

Seriously... I see FIC written all over this...

1) They're friends or very talented in a field.

2) Yes, unless you count 1st born children as not being free.

3) A dartboard, well, more likely the dart that lands on the board with ideas on it.

4) I'm sure being in bed doesn't hurt, unless you don't like to cuddle, I hear it hurts them on the inside. Honestly, being talented, well known in the community, and being friends with a Linden would do it.

5) While not a question, yes, yes it does, but you need to smear milk all over your monitor to see the hidden text... *takes away your milk*

Basicly its like, say you have an idea, but you want it done fast, you have friends who would be perfect for it, are you going to go and do research and find everyone who would fit in then somehow decide who to use from that? Or just use your friends who you know would be willing to do it and would work great with it? Personaly I'd do the later. And if you're going to yell at people for having friends... well thats just mean. :p

This is not the kind of nudge-nudge wink-wink FIC which couldn't stand the light of day, because this is fully under the spotlight.

Nothing wrong with this.

It again comes down to the human connections in SL -- it's a funny thing. I remember when we were strangers Oz, so I wanted to get to know you. I think that was mutual and rather funny, from those early days sitting on the Ahern bench (gone now! *sniff*) and chasing blimps and whatnot. But how it often goes for me, is being attracted to cool people who do cool things. I still have a great respect for you, in part because of technical abilities like builds and scripts and SL Historical Society, but moreso, that has grown because I think you're a great guy. I get good vibes from you... simple as that!

I was a stranger to all the people featured in the SLAP ads, and all of my current SL friends, once. But hey, what's gonna keep me from knowing some fantastic fellow avatars, and very real people behind the keys? The connectivity enthralls me.

I put a high priority on this: I bluntly must say that if someone has potential budding talent but can't be a team player and acts antisocial and makes others uncomfortable in the community, then that really cuts them down from what they hope to achieve; in terms of not only moving product but reaching out to others. That being said, all the stars of the SLAP ad have been cool people who do cool things, and are spotlights in our society.

And I've gotten to know them. That's the most I can ask for in an existence where I grew up massively socially impaired and, well, was the type of person I described in the first part of the last paragraph.

It is wonderful what personal development and growth takes place in SL, and what fun clothes can be worn too!

I now close with a quote from the sacred text of Salt-N-Peppa:

"You know, life is all about expression. You only live once, and you're not coming back, so express yourself, yeah!"

It's beautiful to have a Second Life.

How SLAP came about...
03-23-2005 17:18
Actually, the SLAP ad is our first experiment with co-op ads which are real ads, placed on websites above and beyond SL. The featured residents get the exposure and referrals for a nominal fee (which, incidently, was not anywhere near the cost of the ad campaign). This was our first try.

I knew that I wanted to do a fashion ad parody so I looked at Hamlet's New World Notes and read his entries about last years fashion show. I emailed everyone who participated in the show, and the first 5 who responded got a place in the ad. After the campaign ends in early April, we'll assess its success and decide what to do next.

If we do this again I'll definitely post the opportunity in the forums and in-world so that everybody gets a chance to participate.

Thanks,

Catherine

p.s. give Bub a kiss next time you see him for creating such a FAB ad!
