Read the chat with Phil Linden. Looks like THAT will never happen.

Read the chat with Phil Linden. Looks like THAT will never happen. I did, and it's inevitable. I believe Philip has acknowledged so in a previous Town Hall meeting - eventually power will have to be given up for SL to go worldwide, Internet replacement. _____________________

i don't see how sl can be an internet replacement. more like a part of the internet like the web is but sl can't do all the things the internet can and i don't see those things becoming part of sl like file storage and transfer (ftp), information (www), email, connecting to other games
and such. as a big 3D environment it wouldn't even be as efficient to do those things in sl as to do them outside sl like we do now.but i could totally see it becoming the big world wide standard for 3D "virtual reality" if people still say that, and chat and kind of teleconferencing and getting together and mocking stuff up in 3D realtime connectivity paradigm.......stuff. |

SL is just numerous houses plopped on many sims. Each sim has only about one or two roads. there should be some more streets. Ever been to Los Angeles? There's a similarity- random builds plopped on random neighborhoods sprawled all over the place like spilled marbles. Bad road system with lots of lag. And on smoggy days, a low draw distance. _____________________

BUT OMG doesnt everyone want to live in LA by Tinsel town hmmmmm..... lol ![]() Just yesterday I was telling someone how I rarely visit Hollywood (and Universal, for that matter), because- even though it's maybe 6-10 miles away- the route is a convuluted, laggy, traffic jam nightmare. A teleporter would be nice.... no wait, there's the overlap factor (when someone else ports at the same time) combined with the freak factor... nevermind ![]() _____________________

I'm liking the diversity in SL. Some places are utterly disorganized and a trashheap -- perhaps its intentional. I get a chuckle out of that and explore around. It's like being in a real sandbox that's... well, not one of the sandbox areas (although those can be cluttered too). I also like the neat zoned lands and everything in between.
I don't like getting stuck in buildings when flying, but for those, I try to aim up quite high and then push forwards: the plus-side to it is less lag as well. It does take some time to rocket up to such a height, however, which is why I'm also looking for better ways to do these things. ![]() More sims, more developments... but where are all the deserts and jungles? ![]() _____________________

What SL needs is more clubs. Big ones too, that take up lots of space. As for those who might whine about lag ... look at it this way: if a sim isn't using all its resources, then it isn't being used to its maximum capability. And a sim is a terrible thing to waste.

but where are all the deserts and jungles? ![]() Hey, I live in the desert IRL, and while I love being a desert rat due to low population density, I could not see ANY reason to recreate one in SL. Besides, if it isn't blisteing hot in the summer and blinding cold in the winter, its not really the desert... its just brown landscape with lots of ugly, pointy things. |

It would be nice if there was a whole sim devoted to the community. It would be a "community sim". Parks, learning centers, skydiving, and many other fun/helpful activities should be located there.

I look at it this way:
Content in Second Life is made by the players... Players want something in the world - they make it... So it would be safe to say - the world is 'just as it should be' I think it's haphazard chaos is part of it's charm. If some people want more roads - get together and build more roads. If you want more parks - get together and build more parks. I think if you look carefully enough you'll find like-minded people slowly being drawn together to create little pockets like this all over the world. Order will emerge out of chaos -- but it will take time, and forcing won't make it happen faster. Siggy. _____________________

Uh... no. Visited LA once. Was glad to leave. I visited the area immediately around the UCLA campus for a competition last year, and I really enjoyed the place. Then again, I was coming from the frigid, dreary clime of the midwest, and may have been suffering from solar intoxication. |

MORE CLUBS?! Second Life has way too much clubs. The thing second life needs is more beautification, parks, community areas, etc. Naw, those sort of things just sit there. A club, no a really BIG club does a lot more. It taxes a sim, puts it to the test. Esp when a lot of folks hang out there. And ESPECIALLY if they have high prim hair. Those sorts of places demonstrate the limits of the sim & they provide a great testing ground for any video card out there as well as a proving ground for the SL client. A sim is a terrible thing to waste! MORE CLUBS! Tee hee! |

The users make the content here. If we want themes it is up to us. Either as individuals or groups. _____________________

That kinda describes the welcome area, doesn't it? By "learning centers", I think he means something more than just how to put on and take off clothes. And last time I checked the parks around Ahern are limited, and pale compared to user-made parks. _____________________

I think that is intentional. LL wants us to provide the content, so they keep most of their stuff minimal. _____________________
