But even this has to be bought if someone rates me and i can't afford to rate him or her back. What do i say? I am sorry, I would rate you but I am saving my $ so that i can go to my favourite event this month that otherwise would go down the tubes without my support? So yah. One may have fun in SL without money if one stays in the sandbox, doesn't speak until spoken to and never rates anyone or downloads textures or any of the stuff you need money for (shopping isn't all that costs, soon events will cost too). *cries and bites lip at the senseless misery caused by the evil stock markets and neo-conservative thinking* ok. maybe i'm not REALLY crying, but it does bug me.  |

You don't need money to log into SL and chat in the welcome area, but you do need money to do many things, like rate people (which should not be the domain of the rich). It's a tad unfair that the poor essentially don't have the ability to neg a rich arsehead. Imagine some fool with 50kL$ in his pocket negging some poor noob and laughing at them because he knows they're probably too broke to neg back. Unfortunately ratings are now considerably more meaningful to the poor than to the rich.
GET RID OF RATINGS demmit, or make it so you can ONLY pos rate. This would enforce a form of "if you don't have something nice to say say nothing at all", as opposed to the abuse of negs we have seen since the digital big bang that occurred in some San Diegan Linux box gave birth to SL.
Also, money is a useful tool for scripters as a distribution mechanism. I don't care about money at all but still charged 10L$ for an mHUD for the Vorago, as I got a very nice and DURABLE in-game record of who was playing, and it acted as a (minor) deterrent for the pautzers.
