That's good stuff, Oculenc.

I suggest you get yourself a nice little plot of land somewhere and set the options to list as Store in Find. This will allow people to locate your store when they're searching for avatars. Use some keywords in your store description like "avatar" and "costume."

If you want any assistance or suggestions, please look me up inworld. I'd be glad to help.

I like Oculenc's chicken. I hope it sells well, and hangs around the welcome area a lot, so I can point to them and say "I'm not a chicken -- THAT'S A CHICKEN!" ^_^

Well, also because these avvies are looking great and it's always good to see someone new contributing to "the scene". :)

Bravo, Oculenc. ^_^

there are two ways to market in second life:

pay loads of money for land or rental fees to place shops all over the grid. it's wasteful, but it works as people chance upon your items.

or

own a piece of land, build a nice store, list the location in the places directory, and create a landmark. then start wearing your avs to events. when people say "oh that's fabulous! where can i get one?" hand them a landmark. give some to a friend who will wear them around and tell people where they got them. also list the store location in your profile.

personally, i think the latter works better, and is less expensive, than having little shops and stalls all over the place. btw, title land and describe your products in the about land window. that's what people see in the places listing. those words are also searchable in FIND.

Marcos, thank you for posting. I have been looking at land for days using the find option but there are so many plots and I'm not really sure what I'm looking for as a good place for a shop. There seem to be an abundance of plots and the only thing I've discounted is anything snowy so far as it feels bit bleak.

I will look you up, thank you for the offer.

Khamon, thank you for your advice. It is early days on the stores I have although I am wondering if the Galleria is right. I have a small plot there that is costing me L$400 a week, but it's right out at the edges of the sim so I wonder just how much traffic filters through to it. I basically went for that as it seemed to be a well designed shopping place and popular. I have a very small tent at the bazaar which is much cheaper (L$50 a week).

I have already been to some show and tell events to show off my avatars and I should get out some more but spend all my time building :)

I am increasingly liking the idea of my own land and my own store, it's just picking the location that's hard!

Just looked at the pics in your other thread... I really like that chicken. May have to go have a closer look at that one.... I like the idea of a giant chicken hanging around at my Oasis. :D

I logged in this morning and you've given me my first sale :) Glad you like the chicken!

Get store locations at Private Sims. Malls are dead and hardly worth the effort anymore.

Sorry I'm not sure I follow you, how can you get a store in a private sim that isn't a mall (such as Galleria City for instance)?

it doesn't matter where it is. if it's listed with searchable terms in FIND, and your handing out landmarks, anybody can get there quickly from anywhere. don't fall for the telehub hype. that's as outdated as the mall concept.

okay i take that back, one important thing is that the sim is not super lagged by those types of institutions that shall not be named. what matters in second life is not where you are,
but what you build, and that you advertise properly using FIND and your own presence.

concerning personal preferance, wanting a pretty place to live and work, select "land owners" from the view menu and fly around looking for purple (auction) and yellow (for sale) lots. just visually find one that you like and go for it.

Thank you once again for your advice Khamon. So getting land near a telehub isn't important? I was kind of thinking it was, which was limiting the land I was looking at to telehub sims or sims next door to telehubs.

I'll take your advice and just fly around to find a nice place I think.

Thus Private Sims are the best place for lagless shopping (Check out Briarcliff Manor, high dwell, low lag)

I did actually speak to the owner of that island, was told how much it was to rent an island, then said what it was I do and that I was pretty new and all of a sudden there were no shops available. I thought that was a bit strange.

I have another question about land if somebody would not mind giving me some advice. Should I open a store in PG or Mature land? Are there many people in Second Life that won't visit mature land? I am not going to be selling anything that is mature in content but I have seen some nice land that's in a Mature sim.

Oculenc... I have a large market in Rose. Rose Village Market to be exact and would love to have you there. You'd have a real shop and the rent is reasonable and people seem to like the place as dwell is growing. There are several shops available throughout the market but it doesn't matter where you are as people tend to walk through the whole market. Check it out.

Talen, thank you for pointing that out. I will visit it soon and see what it's like.

Sorry Rose, I'm not going to be making avatars of famous people or specific real life characters (cartoons, film characters etc.). There are already quite a few doing that from what I can see, and I only want to create original avatars.
